I have never written a review before but I feel one is warranted in this case. Since moving to DC, I have been searching high and low for a hairdresser who does excellent weaves. I used Yelp for the first time to assist me in my search, but I have been left very disappointed indeed. I arrived late for my appointment because Yelp actually has the wrong address for the salon. It is actually at N. Capitol Street. Kina, very kindly, was still willing to do my hair. As she started, I explained to Kina that, unlike most weaves, the particular one I was using could not be cut as she moves from one row to the next. Her response was rather brusque and I was a little taken aback but let it pass. She then proceeded to leave a large amount of my hair out so I told her that I like a full head weave, to which she responded tightly that the price would increase from $175 to $250. $175 is apparently the price for just a half head of weave, I was a little surprised but again, I let it go. As Kina started to attach the weave, I noticed she was doubling up the tracts and leaving large spaces between rows. I got the distinct impression that she couldn't be bothered to attach the weave evenly over my head to create the smooth flat look that I like. As she completed the weave I saw her reach for a pair of scissors to cut the last bit of weave off. I looked up just in time to stop her, reminding her that I had told her that my weave could not be cut and that, if it was longer than needed, she should simply bend the unneeded section inwards and sew it down. Kina responded very tarty that if she did that I would not get the flat look I wanted. I felt like saying that I was too late for that anyway. I paid a great deal of money for my weave and, because of that, I use it over and over again so I did not take kindly to Kina basically ignoring what I had told her from the outset and attempting to cut the weave which would have rendered that entire tract useless. When the weave was completed, it did look nice but as I reached up to feel my head, as I feared, it was lumpy and bits of the weave were sticking out making it very obvious that I had a weave - a huge faux pas in my opinion. I have been getting weaves for 20 years. Before moving to DC, I was fortunate to have worked with a lady to whom her weaves were a work of art and who took great care and pride to ensure that the weave was sewn in securely, was flat and so well done that no one knew that I was wearing a weave. Not so with Kina. Her work was sloppy and she did not live up to the standards to which I have become accustomed. She did recommend the keratin treatment, which was a plus, but not enough to take me back there. So it is back to the grindstone. read more

I went to Kina a few months ago. Let me start with the positive: Kina was nice enough. She asked me what I wanted and attempted to give me what I asked for. She also seems to focus on keeping hair healthy during the process. I don't like leaving bad reviews that I think affect someone's business; however after some thought, I realized I wouldn't want anyone else experience what I did. And her services ain't cheap. $250+ to look a mess ain't cute. Lumpy braids, check. Visible tracks? Check. Too much hair left out in the wrong places? Check, Check. I have to be honest and fair to Kina, in that I didn't voice my concerns because I was in a rush to get to an appointment; however bad workmanship is bad workmanship. My mom rarely comments on my hair, but she just flat out told me I looked like I needed to go get it re-done. I did, but somewhere else. Kina seems to have the right idea about customer service and attempting to keep hair healthy, but probably needs to take a few re-fresher courses and find a happy medium. read more

I was referred by a friend to go see Kina, Living in Northern Va I didn't want to make the drive. After experimenting with the hair cutterys and bubbles in the area the final result was damaged hair. After surfing the web for ethnic hair salons it was non exsistent in this area except for one who double processed my hair.Anyway to make a long story short, I went to Kina to whom I explained that I relocated from Florida with healthy hair and now resulting in total damaged. S he was very knowledegeable of her craft and recommened some things that I could do to bring my hair back. She is very nice and does what you ask her to do, The end result was beautiful. My husband was very pleased. My drive was not bad, so therefore, I will be sticking with Kina. read more

I discovered Kina two years ago using this site and other internet research. She was constantly lauded for her style techniques and weave and extensions work. The praise was completely warranted. She is professional, offers sound advice on hair care and is great with adding and maintaining my hair weave. Her rates are extremely reasonable and further she is very respectful of her client's time. She never over books and I have never waited more than 10 minutes after my scheduled appointment for service. After getting my weave done by the same stylist for many years I was thankful to find a stylists in this area that not only didn't have me waiting all day but was experienced and was able to give me the style I wanted. She sold me hair and the hair looks so natural and light. I really was also pleased with the price. Since I purchased hair she only charged me $175 and that included my cut AND style. The other shops I called in that area charged up to $400. I would definitely be coming back to get my weave redone. Hope this helps people find a good stylist. read more
