I absolutely love the Kindred Spirits Care Farm. I've been to some amazing events here. The owners are very kind, and I had an amazing time interacting with all the beautiful animals. Such a beautiful, peaceful place and looking forward to coming back soon!

Karen and Nate founders, and wonderful volunteers, have created a peaceful, serene and happy haven for these sweet souls.

Kindred Spirits Care Farm soothed my soul... and my family's souls, last Sunday morning. Karen and Nate, the founders of Kindred Spirits Care Farm, along with their caring volunteers, welcomed and introduced us to their beautiful non-human family in a serene haven, surrounded by hills and red rocks, shaded by ancient oak and olive trees. One of the lovely guides told us about the animals, as we experienced many of their personalities: Tulula the pig scoffed and strutted away from Charlie the pig, so I discovered she preferred human company to other pigs; Jasper the sheep stirred things up by gently butting his head into my thigh, apparently he's a rabble-rouser; photogenic Pedro the alpaca posed for photos... but communicated "Admire me from a distance. No touching of the hair," which my musician-husband compared to 1960's Beatles' hair cut. A French woman said of one of the silky and statuesque Brahman cows, "Les vaches sont gourmets," (the cows are gourmets) as Karen fed them freshly pulled kohlrabi leaves from her farm's nearby organic vegetable garden. This place is Heaven. Sweet souls treated with love who share their joy with visitors. I left feeling content, peaceful, and filled with love. If you're in Southern California, I recommend setting aside a Sunday morning/early afternoon (10 am to 2 pm on Sundays) to experience the peace and joy of Kindred Spirits Care Farm. My family (kids, grandkids, parents) drove from near and far for this experience. We're all so happy we did. Thank you, Kindred Spirits Care Farm. AMAZING EXPERIENCE!!!! When I arrived I was greeted by Terry who briefed my party and I on the experience we would have. During our time there we had our very kind and KNOWLEDGEABLE tour Guid Anne lead the group. She was such a pleasure to have and provided much knowledge not only on the animals but the farm, its location and rich history including the surrounding plants and trees. She spoke about their organic and environmentally friendly products and procedures. All the animals have names and each have their own individual stories. It clearly shows how much they are loved and cared for. I personally recommend. It's also family friendly. Open every Sunday 10am-2pm.

We had my son's birthday party at Kindred. It was so lovely and the kids ran around and had a blast. They explored the cave, climbed rocks and even got a tour of the animals. Highly recommend. Karen was nice and easy to deal with. They even made us the best cupcakes to share with our party goers.

Beautiful facility. You can tell the animals are well cared for. Very clean. Easy parking and check in. Very close to LA and not far off the freeway. Wonderful staff and volunteers. Go vegan for the animals!

Had such a great time getting to know the rescued animals on the farm. The volunteers and staff were very welcoming and it was amazing to learn about this nonprofit farm, you could tell how much these animals are cared for. I can't wait to visit again, so lucky it's located in the valley. It's been on my list of places to visit and I'm so happy I came! I hope to attend one of their future events soon, they hold dinners made by a vegan chef and I can't wait to continue to learn more about this amazing place. If you're in the valley, please come and support!

So, last night, was my wife's s birthday, I took the wife, the kid to Kindred spirits Care farm for a tour and a sunset picnic. It was our first visit and it was wonderful. So we got to meet the goats , alpaca , dog , pig , sheep , cows , turkeys turkey , chickens , emus, horses , donkey and turtles . All recuses that are retired and don't work anymore. We got to hear all their stories from our guide Karen. Listening to many wonderful stories of animals that have truly earned the good life. Then they set us up with a giant huge delicious Vegan Mexican fiesta picnic under a 500 year old oak tree at about dusk. They had set it up with fine dishes, glasses, linens, and pretty lights strung amongst the trees. Really impressive. Perfect timing for dinner after over an hour of meeting critters, we were ready to eat and they made so much delicious vegan food (and I'm not vegan and I loved it) we could have fed 5-8, but since everything is vegan the animals can handle the leftovers (I am guessing). They topped it all with churro cheesecake and horchata ice cream. Vegan again and again was amazing. If this was at a restaurant I'd go just for this awesomeness. My wife was amazed. Had absolutely no clue this was a thing. It was like renting our own private sunset farm. This was a winning idea. So very different, unique and close to home.

It was nice to see the animals up close. Some animals were rescued and I love how the staff gives the best care to each animal.

A couple hours later, dead. 4 days later, another sparrow, the same thing. We left it alone, but kept an eye on it and called Animal Control, which directed(via automated system) to WVAS. I called and after a hold of about 10 minutes, an officer answered & I explained our concern. She told me we are welcome to bring any injured or wild animal we can safely gather and bring in 24/7. She suggested boxing the bird and bringing it in. We did. 15 minutes later, walking in and seeing the same officer I spoke with. Another employee took the box and went straight to the on-sight vet. While she input our name, address & contact #, I mentioned again that this was the 2nd bird in a few days and asked if we should be concerned or notify anyone else. She said no, the vet will see if they can do anything, if it survives it goes to a bird rehab facility for further monitoring, then eventual release. If it doesn't get better, not, then it's euthanized. I was wondering if the bird gets a autopsy to see what killed it. She said no. She then generated an impound code, in case we wanted to check for updates. We thanked her and left, feeling bad for the bird. When we got home - ANOTHER BIRD! This one in our driveway, just staring at our stucco wall. Grabbed a box & gloves, and back to the shelter we went. When we came in this time, she wasn't there, but the other worker who took the first bird back to the vet was. He took the box and away he went again. He returned to update our intake for the 2nd bird. He then told us that the first bird had died and it looked like the 2nd one was now dead. We again voiced our concern that now 3 birds within 4 days were found in very poor condition. Since we don't work in this field, we asked if this is a concern for them. He just stared at the motor and shook his head 'no,' then said he had all the info they needed and the impound code would be the same. We left hoping to not have to go back and we still don't know why this happened. As of today, no further birds found. We also haven't seen any alerts about bird diseases in our area, which is information the LA County Dept. of Health monitors and shares via their website, but it's good to know that we have this facility in the SFV where we can take a wild animal we may find injured or in poor health. After hours, there is a door bell to the right of the main entrance. Someone is always there to accept animals. Cheers! "CC"

My experience at West Valley Animal Shelter was extremely disappointing…read more On July 28, 2026, I accompanied a couple who had driven approximately 4 hours to adopt a kitten that had recently been removed from the euthanasia list. I was there as a representative of Purrrfect Rescues (a nonprofit) to help coordinate transportation and assist with the adoption process. Unfortunately, the experience quickly became frustrating. An employee named "Delfina" began yelling at me Becuase she wanted to speak with the adopters privately, instead of asking me to give them a moment she decided to escalate the situation and yell at me,I was excluded from the adoption conversation despite being involved in coordinating the adoption, leaving me without important information about changes to the plan. Communication from staff was inconsistent, and the adopters were later told they would need to make an additional round trip to pick up the kitten because he was under the required weight for neutering, then return again once he reached 2 pounds. This was different from what we had initially understood and created unnecessary inconvenience for a family that had already traveled several hours. The staff member we interacted with, Delfina, was discourteous and unprofessional throughout all interactions. Afterward, I learned she allegedly made comments about me to the adopters rather than addressing any concerns with me directly. The overall experience left the adopters feeling so uncomfortable that they ultimately decided not to proceed with the adoption! To make matters worse, when I asked for a supervisor's contact information so I could voice my concerns, I was refused direct contact information and was given a phone number and email address that did not work. I was also told a supervisor would be available the next day, only to later be told that was not the case. I appreciate the difficult work that animal shelter VOLUNTEERS do every day, and I am grateful that this kitten was removed from the euthanasia list. However, saving animals doesn't end there. Shelters should also make the adoption process welcoming, transparent, and supportive for responsible adopters. In this case, the process became unnecessarily complicated, and a kitten ultimately lost what could have been a loving home. I sincerely hope management reviews this incident and takes steps to improve communication, professionalism, and customer service so future adopters and rescue partners have a better experience.

The rescue is not open to the public and you can only see an animal by appointment only on Friday or Saturday afternoon. In the 3 months I volunteered there, only 3 dogs were adopted. Many of the dogs have been there for over 4 years. I actually found some of these reviews to be fake. Same exact words with a different animal name. You can not foster an animal which is known to be the pathway to adoption. Car rides and outings are strictly prohibited. The facility is not maintained, the dogs have no toys or bedding in their 38 year old dog houses and are only fed some mushy food once a day. There are no comforts. They can only be walked between 1 pm and 5 pm in the afternoon, the hottest part of the day in Canoga Park. There is only 1 kennel attendant and his helper that support 44 dogs and 22 cats. Obviously, the care they are given is insufficient. There are few volunteers to walk the dogs as most volunteers leave. The kennel attendant is a nasty man and he runs the rescue. The owner is only there when there is an appointment. Please consider adopting one of these precious animals!

My boyfriend and I found one of this rescue's dogs after she had been intentionally left alone at Rustic Canyon Park at night. The owner later admitted to me that she had hoped someone would simply pick the dog up. She also later texted us asking if we would keep the dog because she no longer wanted her anymore. I have text messages documenting these conversations. Rather than turning our backs on the situation, we opened our home to this dog, paid for her care, spent days with her, and worked to find her a safe future. We had absolutely nothing to gain--we simply didn't want an abandoned dog to end up in danger. The dog also had a reported bite history, making the situation even more serious. I expected the rescue to recognize the gravity of what had happened and work collaboratively to ensure the dog's safety and the safety of the public. Instead, I was met with defensiveness and hostility. During my conversation with the rescue, I was told the owner was "a good person" despite the fact that she had intentionally abandoned the dog, later admitted she no longer wanted her, and asked us to keep her permanently. My concerns were dismissed, and I was spoken to disrespectfully despite the fact that I had stepped in solely to help. I fully understand that the rescue may have had the legal right to take the dog back. That is not my issue. My issue is the complete lack of professionalism, accountability, and appreciation shown toward someone who volunteered their own time, money, and home to protect one of their dogs after it had been abandoned. When they picked the dog up, they refused to provide even a general reassurance about her future or care. While I understand not disclosing confidential information such as a foster or trainer's identity, the complete lack of transparency only added to my concern. I hope Athena is ultimately safe and receives the training and responsible placement she deserves. I also hope this rescue reflects on how it communicates with members of the public who step in to protect animals in crisis. Kindness, accountability, and professionalism should never be too much to ask.
