Writing this in honor of my late soul dog, Harper. I adopted Harper almost 14 years ago from Dogs Without Borders. DWB are heavily active in social media and I followed them on Facebook. I saw Harper and went to one of the adoption fairs. I first signed up as a foster. Fostering was free and I had two week periods to foster and help dogs socialize at home peacefully before being adopted. Food was provided and one of the responsibility is dropping them off at the adoption fairs. As you can assume, I went back to the adoption fairs only to start the adoption process. The organization truly cares about their dogs, making sure they get the best medical treatment and are placed in the right homes. There is no pressure in adopting the dogs so if you are only capable of committing a short amount of time, they express nothing but gratitude. They finalize the adoption by doing a home inspection, making sure the home and family are suitable for their rescues. My parents have also adopted a dog a few weeks later and the whole experience was organized, comfortable and smooth. We had a wonderful experience working with DWB. We found them to be very communicative and organized. My husband primarily dealt with them on the admin side of things, so I wanted to comment on how they appear to choose their foster parents really well. The woman who fostered the dog we adopted was amazing. She really cared and helped Chloe and Nicole be selective about the best home for what has turned out to be the best little dog ever. DWB rescued him from a South LA shelter and he has very happily landed in a loving home with us. My wife and I love having a home with 2 small dogs in it. So when we recently had to let our almost 16-year old girl cross the Rainbow Bridge, we knew we needed to find another little dog. You can never replace the dog you lost, but you can fill the void they left behind. When I put the word out that I was looking for a little dog to adopt, one of my clients sent me a picture of a little boy named Spoon that was being fostered by Dogs Without Borders. I had been warned that Spoon was a bit unsure of men and that he might bark at me initially. He did not and I was relieved. Even better, he took to my wife right away. I took my time and slowly worked my way to a seat next to my wife who was cuddling Spoon. When the time was right I gently took Spoon into my arms and it was good. We knew then that we wanted to proceed with the 1 week foster to adopt trial period. This was very important, since we still have our other dog to consider. During this process we were assigned a foster mentor to help us navigate the process. Nicole was amazing and very supportive. It only took us one day and night to know Spoon was meant to be our dog. So we went ahead and completed the adoption process, signed the documents and paid the adoption fee. Such a bargain for a priceless, perfect little dog. Spoon is the best holiday present we have ever received, and he has quickly become a comfortable and confident member of our family. We are overjoyed, with full hearts and so much gratitude for an organization like Dogs Without Borders. They rescued Spoon from a city shelter and gave him a chance at finding his forever home. After sending in a video and being vetted, we set up an appointment with the foster to meet Copita. The foster, Jewels, was also very helpful, accommodating and communicative. After making sure that we were a good fit and Copita got along well with our older pup, we proceeded with the adoption. Even after taking Copita, Jewels was available for follow up questions. I had a wonderful experience with dogs without borders and wanted to add my feedback after seeing that they received some (in my opinion) unhelpful negative feedback which can damage a rescue's ability to help dogs in need. I fostered a dog for 9 months and it was a great experience - I saw him on their Instagram page, submitted my application and after speaking with one of the ladies at the organization was approved for fostering (it was initially meant to be a week but turned into 9 months bc I loved the little guy so much!) The dog was 7, so well-behaved and house-trained. He had bitten people in the past, which is why he was taken in by dogs without borders as he'd been returned previously and couldn't be around children. If I was a citizen (I'm European and have to travel back there) I would have adopted him in a heartbeat. He just received a permanent adopter so I had to give him up but I know it's for his own good to have the stability I may not be able to offer. I'm sorry to see him go but I know that he is always looked after and I could tell Chloe, Kim and Nicole really care about him. So disappointed with this agency! Adopted a Sr. dog knowing that there may be problems, but there was no disclosure what so ever about what was wrong with this little guy, even after we asked. Terrible heart issues causing fluid in his lungs, said he was house trained and he's not. Of course we'll love him till his end of life but someone else may have already abandoned him. We have had the best experience adopting with DWB! I sent in an application for a cutie patootie named Parker, and I heard back promptly. We sent in the requested home tour video, and heard back immediately that we would be welcome to do a 1 week trial adoption. We had spring break plans with my daughter and they worked with our schedule and with her foster mom to make it sync up. As soon as we decided to proceed, I got an email with the foster mom's info, and we were put in touch. Communication was absolutely top notch. Parker's foster mom, Evie, is the kindest person, a true animal care expert, with such genuine love and attention to animals. I applied for a few pups from them TWICE. The first time I submitted an application they texted me the next morning denying me because of my work schedule, I mentioned I would be free all summer and zero response at all. I switched my hours up so now I could be more flexible with my pup. They failed to even hear me out. Second time I submitted an application, (Friday June 27 not after 6 by the way) for another adorable pup, they told me through IG that a director would reach out to me shorty. Never did. I've been fostering dogs for sometime and never had any hiccups until I've started fostering for DWB. I do appreciate the selfless work that they are providing for these dogs but at the same time I think they need to be more considerate of their fosters, who are opening their homes and making themselves available to help. Chloe in particular is extremely rude. She will probably respond to my comment and not take any sort of accountability for her behavior and actions - on the contrary, she will turn this on me or anyone who posts negatively against DWB. Again, the organization itself is great but this particular individual needs a lesson or two on ethics or to step down. I filled out adoption application and sent a home video for the dog we wanted to adopt. Chloe texted that the dog would weigh 40-60lbs full grown. I did text back saying that would be too big. After talking with my kids, we agreed that size did not matter as we felt we connected with the dog. Chloe texted back to say that they had found a home. Ok fair. A week later I see that the dog we wanted was still up for adoption and immediately texted Chloe. Her response was "Hi I understand but she will be a large dog and you were against that". Fair but we also made the effort to reevaluate our home, resources, commitment to a larger dog. ( We had a 4.5 lbs chihuahua for just over 16yrs, who passed away from old age and not from being sick) and our schedules are that one of us is ALWAYS home. Our fur baby would never be alone and I reached out a third time to express our desire to adopt a dog. But I guess that was not enough because a week went by and I got no response. I decided to write an email in hopes of reaching someone other than Chloe but I understand now that she calls the shots. My email went unanswered. I really dislike admitting that I suspect discrimination but after reading some of the other reviews, I can see that I'm not the only one that feels this way. If you go to her organization's instagram, you can see for yourself that the folks who have been able to adopt from her are overwhelmingly white people. And no Chloe a ONE star review is not going to prevent dogs from finding their forever home, it's your classist attitude. read more

I love this rescue. They made it so easy to pick up, instructions were clear, and they all so obviously love dogs. I just lost my soul dog in November who was a senior chihuahua rescue and I fostered a little chihuahua senior girl with DWB who needed surgery and now she's my baby! A foster fail! Adopted a Chihuahua from this rescue & reunited her with her brother that I adopted from the LA Animal Shelter. They seem to do a lot of work with the LA Chesterfield Shelter which is extremely overcrowded since the pandemic at nearly double capacity. So any rescue that is helping to save animals from these overcrowded LA shelters is doing a good thing. Adoption fee is a bit higher than others but it's going to a worthy cause and helps to find lifelong forever homes for these beautiful animals. Good communication and easy to work with.
