The food is always good here and their pasta menu is always revolving but they always have their signature dishes too. It's never too busy here when I come so the service is always great and it's family owned so don't see servers just the owner coming to take your order. Decent old school home style Japanese pasta place inside this unnamed(?) strip mall in Champlain Heights. Parking is available on the street, as well as in the tiny lot. The place looks like it's been around for ages. The place is seriously bare bones. There are maybe 2 tables with decorations on them, but nothing on the walls. Staff appear to be a mom and pop. Not sure if the mom (waitress) was having a bad day, but she wasn't smiling the entire time my buddy and I were there. In fact she was on the grumpy side. Maybe she had a long day. Oh well. I've been hearing this mom & pop hole in the wall pasta place for a while now. Tons of my friends have recommended me to drop by here a long time ago, like even before 2015 LOL!! We just ordered the daily specials which were the Penne with Tomato Spicy Sausage, and the Wild Mushroom Truffle Carbonara. They both came out hot plate delicious. Each one has a different flavour to it and it was the perfect mix honestly. And on top of that, the wild mushroom one was my favourite as it has a very distinct aroma to it. I enjoyed the penne pasta a lot as the spicy sausages were plentiful in the plate. The food is not bad decent as the hole in the wall pasta was delicious. I ordered two pastas, both were under $20 and were actually quite tasty. Portions are relatively big. Don't come here expecting traditional Italian pasta, this is far from traditional but still worth trying nonetheless. You really can't go wrong with this place. Nicely nestled away in Champlain heights, it has some good flavours and a nice staff. When we went we felt terrible that the staff had to deal with this really shitty couple, but they took it in stride and managed to get through the situation. A few friends decided to get take out instead of cooking on a Friday night. Kinemi's was the unamimous choice. Kinemi's Kitchen is a tiny restaurant located close to a quiet neighbourhood. Don't make the mistake of going to Champlain Mall, I was walking around looking for the place until I realized the restaurant is located on Champlain Crescent. She Liked this place. Now I see there are a few more Yelpers coming and dining here. It is indeed a hidden gem in this area. The meal that we had recently at Kinemi's was all about their daily specials. If I could have been able to try more dishes, I would have. We were only able to try a few tonight, but it was enough to renew our interest to make our next venture in this area, back to Kinemi's. 1) We had handmade ravioli stuffed with fresh hand shucked crab meat in a rose mushroom sauce. It was indeed a 5 star masterpiece. Especially for the price and the size. I was already full just eating that dish and I even shared it! If I were to order this at Zefferellis, or any other location downtown, I probably wouldn't get one of the three important things that made this dish so special. Price - this was only $14.00 Portion - It was alot and the ravioli's were bigger than a big Wuntun or Gyoza sized dumpling. Ingredient - Fresh crab meat, not from a tin or fresh from a plastic container. It was freshly cooked dungeoness crab, hand shucked. I would have paid over $20 for this and maybe even $30 at some other places. 2) Baked goats cheese orange salad. Goats cheese was baked on something like a crustini underneath and topped with nuts for added texture. I think that's what it was. It was the only way I could describe it. Side portioned with fresh orange slices, topped with salad greens, all lightly coated with a delctable dressing that put this all together. $8? Deal! And Lastly 3) Pasta with garlic prawns and white wine sauce. Noodles almost toothsome, sauce was well portioned and there were decent amounts of prawns to go with the dish. Yas compared it to Bistro the Homes version which she likes just as much. But the dish that really sung that night was the ravioli. I can't wait to try his lobster ravioli. I hear it's even better!! Just imagine slices of lobster meat encased in handmade pasta sheets and softly sauteed in a wine or rose sauce infused with lobster flavour flavour. OK. I was going with 4 stars, but now, I've "re-thunk" it over and I'm giving it 5. Regardless of the fact that I suffered from my pasta coma and couldn't drive. It was well worth it. It seems like this place is a hit or miss. I went in today and it was a complete hit! I went it with a starving stomach and came out of the restaurant with a full stomach. It's been 4 hours and my stomach is still full. The restaurant is run by a husband wife team where the husband cooks, the wife looks after everything else. The husband when to culinary school and perfected his work in various restaurants before opening up his own restaurant. I wanted to eat everything on the menu but I stopped myself and ordered a few things: 2 items from the regular menu and 2 items from the chef's creation menu ( I went with a friend, and we cleaned up the plates GOOD). The ceasar salad: The chef personally blend of dressing. It was not salty, sweet or bitter. All the flavours blended well and it hit the taste buds perfectly together. The Crab cake: I freaked out at first cause I only saw 1 crab cake! I looked at the menu and yes, it said crab cake not crab cakes...with a 's'. The crab cake was in a wonderful presentation and after looking at it for 5 seconds, I took my fork and dove right into it. crab was not dry and again with the flavors...the flavors blended perfectly together. Chicken pesto Pizza. Good. Why not make it into a deep dish chicken pesto pizza. another half an inch and the pizza could be one. I like the crust. It was crispy yet not dry. The pizza sauce was not the typical pizza sauce and again, its the chef's special creation. Lobster Linguine The lobster was cooked to perfection, it was not over cooked and the pasta was not overcooked at all. The presentation of the dish was pretty good. The chef placed the lobster head at one end and the tail at the other end looking like the lobster was on the plate. A lot of people do take out orders especially on Friday and Saturday so I suggest you get there early and have an early dinner. There is nothing wrong with having dinner at 5pm. The restaurant isn't hard to find as it is situated in a tiny plaza in the suburbs in Vancouver. It's the only plaza. If you miss it, you have to go back. read more

[Styrofoam Saturday] It was a lazy night with family and none of us was really in the mood to make dinner. I consulted the big red Yelp machine and decided on some take out from Kinemi's. This place intrigued me as it was an italian restaurant owned and operated by Japanese/Chinese staff. I was expecting some weird ingredients like chicken feet pasta. I was given free reign to order for the 5 of us since they figured I was the only Yelper of the group. They also decided I had to go pick it up. How wonderful. They're not very adventurous eaters so I decided to play it safe and with pretty standard dishes - spaghetti and meatballs, seafood linguine, lasagna, hawaiian pizza, cheesy garlic bread, and a caesar salad. It was all as advertised and pretty average. I would describe it as comfort food - think Denny's or White Spot. Portion sizes were good. As a self-proclaimed hungry man, one pasta entree would've filled my pit of a stomach. Best of all, the 4 entrees and 2 appies cost less than $60. Can't argue with that! The restaurant itself is a homely mom and pop shop nestled in a small strip mall on the outskirts of Champlain Heights. There's ample seating for 20 or so. Since we did takeout, I can't comment on the service. I've noticed the wonderful reviews and can't help but wonder if I just ordered the wrong things. My husband and I ordered the penne sausage, shrimp and scallop spaghetti, and a house salad with the vinaigrette dressing. The food was flavorful with subtle seasonings and a creamy tomato sauce with fresh seafood. The owners of Kinemi's Kitchen were very kind to us, gave us our full order when we could not pay for it in cash. They were only accepting cash. Being from the US we were having trouble with the atm and had limited cash on us, I had asked if we could change our order to purchase the amount of food we could pay for. We ordered the cheese toast to start, it was surprisingly good even though it's very simple. For our mains we ordered the famous lobster spaghetti and the salmon linguini. The lobster was perfectly cooked, combined with the spaghetti was like a party in our mouths! Delicious! We didn't enjoy the salmon linguini as much. If you order this dish don't mix the salmon in the pasta otherwise it will cook; to be fair we prefer our smoked salmon raw. Service is fine and prices are fair, portions are very big. The food we ordered was delicious. I had a craving for spaghetti bol and it was absolutely delicious, hot, fresh, noodles cooked perfectly. My colleague had shrimp pasta and she loves it. We orders focaccia bread and it came out warm, I think it is homemade - and yummy. The inside of the restaurant is bare and bland and well, ugly. We were on a quick lunch while working so it was fine but I wouldn't go have dinner there. All in all good food, cold reception and service. Perfect for takeout! Order, take it home and enjoy! What a gem! I've come here 3 times already and none of them have been disappointing. If you can get the lobster linguine special, PLEASE DO! It's $25 but oh so worth it. My first impression of the restaurant was not very welcoming. As soon as I walked in, the server didn't promptly greet us although we know she saw us - we were the only guests as we had to have an early dinner that day. However, once we made our order, she was friendlier and was more approachable. The restaurant is run by, what I think is a Korean family/mom & pop shop. We knew this place served pastas and pizzas but didn't expect much. It was to our surprise that the food was fantastic and exceptionally high quality. We had the specials of the day and it blew us out of the water. The pastas and pizzas were not what I had expected - it was like high end restaurant quality food. Both the pastas and seafood were one of a kind - there are weekly specials with creative pastas and other Italian dishes. It was a very good surprise. The food is amazing! We had the mushroom spaghetti with duck confit, lobster linguine, seafood pizza and cheese garlic bread. I have to say, it's probably the best Italian fashion restaurant I've ever been. The duck was super tender, very flavorful. Lobster had been deshelled, put back into the shell, and baked. Quite simply this place is an amazing find! I live just around the corner and you'd never know there was a delicious italian restaurant in this hidden Champlain kiosk next to champlain video. The parking is limited in the lot but lots of street parking, a little hard to find because its a pretty random spot. The place is quite small so probably not good for groups more than 4+ The service was great, like I said a small place so they had one chef, one server. The server still managed to check in and refill waters and was very polite. The food.... Oh the food. Their menu has pretty standard pasta and pizza dishes all very reasonably priced. Pasta dishes ranged from $10-14. Considering the size they would be a petty good deal. Appies were $7-8 so not breaking the bank. They have daily specials for the more fancy dishes like pastas with lobster, prawns, seafood which ranged a lil more to the $16-28 range. The pasta I had was perfectly cooked, fresh veggies, perfectly seasoned and had prawns that were cooked to perfection. Amazing pasta hidden in a random location. I went on Friday for lunch and had to wait roughly 5-10 minutes for a table. Ordered the lobster linguine from the specials menu for $25. It was amazing. The lobster was perfectly cooked and taken out of the shell, cut into small pieces and lightly doused in butter. The pasta was cooked perfectly al dente and had the perfect amount of sauce. Came here today for the first time, what a great surprise, we have been looking for good Italian food in the Burnaby area with no luck, until today! We try 2 different kind of pastas, we went for the clasic, Carbonara, and one spaghetti with tomato sauce and meat balls, both were just perfect, Carbonara was creamy and infuse with the pancetta flavor but not to heavy, very well balanced, the tomato spaghetti, very simple great tomato taste, fresh very tasty. Cesar salad also was really good and very good volume enough for 2 or 3 sides. Pizza I like the crust is thick but fluffy not heavy really good texture, a bit crunchy, if you are more of a thin crust person you may not like but the flavors were right. We also had the focaccia with olive oil and balsamic vinegar and it came really hot right out of the oven. Delicious! I am looking forward to come back and try more items from their menu. read more
