Decent old school home style Japanese pasta place inside this unnamed(?) strip mall in Champlain Heights. Parking is available on the street, as well as in the tiny lot. The place looks like it's been around for ages. The place is seriously bare bones. There are maybe 2 tables with decorations on them, but nothing on the walls. Staff appear to be a mom and pop. Not sure if the mom (waitress) was having a bad day, but she wasn't smiling the entire time my buddy and I were there. In fact she was on the grumpy side. Maybe she had a long day. Oh well. The pasta is basically home cooking. Nothing too fancy, but gets the job done. I had the penne with pork backribs & Italian sausage in mushroom tomato cream sauce. The ribs were a bit dry, and were in small boneless chunks. Portion size was decent. I'd come back if I was in the area. Just don't expect anything spectacular.

Hidden gem in the Champlain Heights area near the community centre. They specialize in Japanese-Italian dishes such as pasta and pizza. I ordered two pastas, both were under $20 and were actually quite tasty. Portions are relatively big. Don't come here expecting traditional Italian pasta, this is far from traditional but still worth trying nonetheless. Highly recommend the Spaghetti Amatriciana because it was flavourful but not too heavy. The Linguine Prawns Garlic White Wine could be more flavourful though! They are doing takeout only and you have to call in to place your order as of this review.

This is a hidden gem in a plaza in the Champlain Heights area. The family is Japanese and the menu offers Italian fusion serving mainly pasta and pizza. We had spaghetti pasta with mushrooms, pulled duck in a demi sauce $17 The linguine was made with pork ribs in a rose sauce $17 The portions were large and the flavor profile was tasty. Although the pasta was not fresh made, the sauce alone will make you want to make a return trip for more! I wasn't a fan of how the meat was a bit chewy. But I would come back to try the pizza. There's lots of parking on the street

Haven't been here for awhile, forgot how wow'd I am by the food here. Fabulous dish of spaghetti with prawns and scallops. The prawns were huge and the taste and flavor were amazing. The sauce was light but well balanced. Spaghetti beef tongue ragu was out of this world! Tender beef tongue in a delicious sauce, also light and well balanced flavors! Absolutely first class food in this hole in the wall establishment! The above daily specials were $20-23, totally worth it. Large enough plate sizes to share, but easy to finish for one person because they're so delectable you can't stop eating. CASH only.

Good food with very reasonable price and huge portion. Best mushroom soup I've ever had. Chicken parmigiana with linguine and tomato sauce blew my mind. Seafood pizza with all crustaceans was truly scrumptious. Can't wait to go back again.

    * Off day? * I feel like I must have visited either a different restaurant or caught them on a VERY off day. I'm seriously confused by all the positive reviews though. The baked lasagna had underseasoned gristly meat, an overly oily tomato sauce, under ripe raw tomatoes on top, and used a very commercial tasting lasagna pasta. Photo: http://www.yelp.ca/biz_photos/AbvEpKZyPBRdXsHvMZz0sw?select=3yNxI4FKLCZ37xZMAj4tKQ#3yNxI4FKLCZ37xZMAj4tKQ The seafood linguini was made with commercial tasting linguini which was overcooked, the seafood had a little bit of freezer burn, and it was topped with powdered "parmesan cheese." Photo: http://www.yelp.ca/biz_photos/AbvEpKZyPBRdXsHvMZz0sw?select=Wbmlhetl4k9xupH-v93rjw#Wbmlhetl4k9xupH-v93rjw Service was extremely cold, as if she and her hubby had had a big fight that day or something. Perhaps that explains the lackluster cooking as well. But based upon the quality of the ingredients that may not be all...... I won't be back......

Back again for some more savoury goodness from the creative kitchen known as Kinemi's Kitchen. Interestingly, I just noticed Makiko's review is no longer here on Yelp. I wonder why. She Liked this place. Now I see there are a few more Yelpers coming and dining here. It is indeed a hidden gem in this area. The meal that we had recently at Kinemi's was all about their daily specials. If I could have been able to try more dishes, I would have. We were only able to try a few tonight, but it was enough to renew our interest to make our next venture in this area, back to Kinemi's. 1) We had handmade ravioli stuffed with fresh hand shucked crab meat in a rose mushroom sauce. It was indeed a 5 star masterpiece. Especially for the price and the size. I was already full just eating that dish and I even shared it! If I were to order this at Zefferellis, or any other location downtown, I probably wouldn't get one of the three important things that made this dish so special. Price - this was only $14.00 Portion - It was alot and the ravioli's were bigger than a big Wuntun or Gyoza sized dumpling. Ingredient - Fresh crab meat, not from a tin or fresh from a plastic container. It was freshly cooked dungeoness crab, hand shucked. I would have paid over $20 for this and maybe even $30 at some other places. 2) Baked goats cheese orange salad. Goats cheese was baked on something like a crustini underneath and topped with nuts for added texture. I think that's what it was. It was the only way I could describe it. Side portioned with fresh orange slices, topped with salad greens, all lightly coated with a delctable dressing that put this all together. $8? Deal! And Lastly 3) Pasta with garlic prawns and white wine sauce. Noodles almost toothsome, sauce was well portioned and there were decent amounts of prawns to go with the dish. Yas compared it to Bistro the Homes version which she likes just as much. But the dish that really sung that night was the ravioli. I can't wait to try his lobster ravioli. I hear it's even better!! Just imagine slices of lobster meat encased in handmade pasta sheets and softly sauteed in a wine or rose sauce infused with lobster flavour flavour. OK. I was going with 4 stars, but now, I've "re-thunk" it over and I'm giving it 5. Regardless of the fact that I suffered from my pasta coma and couldn't drive. It was well worth it. Another culinary caper, devoured and enjoyed! Don't forget. Cash only.

The food was quite decent. I thought the prices were a bit inflated for just pasta, but the portion size was pretty massive -- most of us took leftovers to go. The sauces in general were a bit bland and the pasta was definitely cooked to beyond al dente, which isn't my preference for dried pasta. That said, the toppings were generous, especially for the linguine crab that I ordered (would highly recommend!). Come by before they close permanently!

My friends and I recently shared a few dishes here, and while the flavors were truly impressive,…read morethe portion sizes left us wanting more. We started with the complimentary bread, which was a total highlight. Each person gets a fresh slice that has an incredible crust and a soft, pillowy center--dipping it into the oil and vinegar was the perfect way to start the meal. For our mains, the Gnocchi Asparagi e Funghi was my favorite - the gnocchi themselves were clearly handmade and had a great texture that didn't feel heavy. The earthy mushrooms and asparagus worked really well with the parmesan cream, which was rich but didn't overpower the other flavors. The Squid Ink Linguine ai Frutti di Mare was also solid; the lobster bisque base gave it a deep, savory saltiness that coated the clams, prawns, and scallops perfectly without making the dish feel too "fishy." We also tried the Candele Al Ragù D'Anatra. The duck ragu was tender and savory, and the combination of the parmesan fondue and aged asiago added a nice, sharp saltiness that made every bite really satisfying. Everything we ate was seasoned perfectly and tasted fresh, it's just a shame the portions were so small because the flavors were definitely there. The service was excellent and very attentive; I especially appreciated that they were constantly on top of refilling my water throughout the night. The ambience also hit the right note, making it a great spot for a night out. However, the portions are definitely on the smaller side and aren't super filling. Even though every dish tasted amazing, we weren't full by the end of the meal, so it's something to keep in mind if you're arriving with a big appetite.

The seafood ravioli was tasty and I'd have it again. The pappardelle was decent although didn't have as much depth or complexity of flavour as it could've. The restaurant was cute, cozy, and could seat us right away so we decided to give it a try. We got the poached pear salad and enjoyed it! The pears were delicious and a very refreshing salad. It did come with burrata on top which was a bit disappointing since it wasn't gooey at all. For our mains, we split the pesto rigatoni and the special which was also a rigatoni with white wine, capers, shrimp and lemon. First off, the noodles are delicious on both dishes. They are clearly handmade in the best way possible. Very tender, delicate, and almost melt in your mouth. The pesto dish was perfect but again the burrata on top was disappointing since it was sort of tough/dry and not gooey. The special dish was very good but the lemon was quite strong. Initially it was a bit too much but it did grow on you over time and I did like the dish. We ended with a tiramisu and while it was delicious, there wasn't much of the bread/cake/cookie part as it was mostly cream. Overall, it was fun to try a new place but I expected a more for the price point. For $35 per plate plus salad and dessert it was a very expensive dinner and we weren't full.
