I went to pick up metals from the 'Artisan's Corner,' where various types of remnants, including aluminum and steel, were mixed together under a single sign priced at $0.61 per pound. I took a pile of remnants to the register, and she tried to charge me $2.49 a pound. When I showed her the pricing area, she claimed the sign was only for steel , even though the sign only said 'Artisan's Corner' and didn't specify a metal type. When I pointed out that everything was mixed together, she told me it was my problem and rudely snapped at me to go to a different cashier. While I was patiently waiting for another employee, she actually ran to the back to warn him, saying, 'Watch out for this guy; he's trying to get everything for $0.61.' She treated me like a shoplifter rather than a paying customer. Thankfully, the second cashier saw the issue, fixed the pricing, and explained the situation. He gave me a fair deal and explained that other customers often mix the piles together, even though the only other signs were for stainless steel ($1.94), lead, and brass--nothing specifically for the aluminum in that pile. I tried to speak with the manager, Joe, who was present during my conversation with the second cashier. He seemed completely indifferent to my complaint and was clearly just trying to protect Martha. As a retail store owner myself, I know how pricing works: if you make a mistake on a sign, you honor it. Posting a general price sign without specifying materials is essentially a 'bait and switch' tactic. Our company spends a lot of money with Industrial Metal Supply, but we will be taking our business elsewhere. We work hard for our money and refuse to be treated like criminals for simply asking for the advertised price."

A few other shops in the area were boutique and not open when I went by. But I walked in here and met the owner - George. He set me up with an order for the parts I needed to replace the plenums, diverters, supports for coolers, and flashing for the holes. Took a few days to make and I installed with my roofer. The only thing that was off was some tack welds were burnt through on some flashing and the roofer pointed it out. But we coated everything well and will not be a problem. Great prices and speed. All the parts worked fine and he advised what to get perfectly.

The job was pretty swift, considering it was all custom. They measured carefully, and discussed potential issues with us and how we might like to work around them (mostly issues of our old house having walls not perfectly true, and of building codes having changed a lot since our former railing had been installed). All made sense and we came up with agreeable workarounds. They did initial fabrication on site, to make sure that everything fit perfectly, and then did the finishing work and painting off site. The final install was meticulously precise. The new railing is very sturdy. Photos show completed railing BEFORE we installed new finished flooring. It is bolted to the subfloor and to some reinforcement blocking that they installed under the subfloor for us, as well. Overall, we're quite happy with it. For something like this our goal had been to install a railing that will last for 50 years, and I think they met that goal for us.
