One of the best parts of the carrousel is that, because it's so large, it accommodates massive amounts of people each go around so the wait for the ride is usually so minimal. My younger kids love this ride, often requesting multiple trips and, honestly, because of the minimal wait, I'm always happy to oblige. Not to mention it's always fun to go on one of the original rides of the park. It's fun to think about how many people over 70 years have gone around and around. The ornate decorations of the ride are absolutely stunning. There's so much to look at that I feel like I see something new every time I ride it. Finally, this is a great area to character watch. I've also seen so many of them ride the actual ride. Something that can't be accommodated on most rides. On my last trip we saw Peter Pan goofing off and riding much to the delight of kids (& let's be honest, their parents too). I often feel like a lot of people without little kids just pass right on through Fantasyland because there aren't any thrill rides. Hubby, baby and I sat on the chariot while our eldest rode one of the intricately carved hand-painted horses. We noticed hand-paintings of Sleeping Beauty scenes above the horses as well! A nice touch, since it was said to be Disney's best animated/artistic, expensive film of its time! I would recommend this must see in Fantasyland! Love Peter Pan or Mary Poppins? Love Merry Go Rounds in general ? We had a 10-20 minute wait for our next ride in Fantasy Land in Disneyland. To get out of the way of the the flow of the ever passing by crows we waited here. Another park goer told Doc he's been her for two days and if you hang around, Mary Poppins rides the carousel at 10 a.m. Just like Clockwork, she appeared on a horse just like magic. Even though it is mostly for kids, anyone can ride the carrousel. I jump on it from time to time because the line usually isn't very long. Despite being refurbished on a couple of occasions, King Arthur Carrousel has been here since Disneyland opened. There used to be only one white horse before they painted all the horses white in the 70's. This was due to the popularity of everyone wanting to ride that one particular horse. All of the horses have names. The white horse with jingle bells hanging from its breast collar (named Jingles) was Walt's favorite horse. King Arthur Carrousel features organ music renditions of songs from many of the Disney films. Next to the carrousel is a stone with a sword in it that guests can try and pull out. read more

Although the King Triton Carousel over at Disney's California Adventure Park is one of my daughter's favorite rides, we always go on this carousel as well when visiting the Disneyland Park because of it's consistent short lines as well. Plus it's a carousel. All kids love carousels. No visit to Disneyland for a toddler is complete without a simple carousel ride (and a jalapeno cheese stuffed Mickey Mouse pretzel, of course!). My daughter loves carousel rides and the nice thing is that we are always able to fill this in between the other rides in Fantasyland that have much longer waits such as Peter Pan's Flight, Dumbo the Flying Elephant and the Storybook Land's Canal Boats. That way she doesn't feel like we're constantly standing in line. Another quick filler in Fantasyland is doing the Sleeping Beauty Walkthrough self guided tour. There are a few flights of stairs in that one, but nothing in comparison to the ones at the Tarzan Treehouse walkthrough, which I previously reviewed. The longest I've seen the wait for the carousel during their peak seasons (Spring Break, Summer and Winter) has been approximately 15 minutes, otherwise it's normally about 5 to 10 minutes. The great thing about this ride is that they are all beautifully decorated WHITE horses. My daughter loves white horses. She has only recented selected ahead of time which color saddle or caped horse she wants to ride, otherwise just being on any white horse makes her happy. Much different from the King Triton Carousel where she ONLY wants to ride on one of the two sea otters. read more

Hard to believe that as kids, my brother and I never rode the King Arthur Carousel (maybe because we thought we were too old for it). On our most recent visit, Kathy and I wanted to ride something we'd never been on... and also something kind of romantic. Hence, off to ride the horses! Quite honestly, this carousel is beautiful... all of the horses are white and gorgeously crafted. There's also a bench on the ride - but if you're on a carousel, what's the point of going on if you don't want to ride the horses (unless you're too heavy or can't reach the stirrups)? Plus, the calliope music that's playing is composed of classic Disney musical tunes - definitely worth a listen. And the wait is usually very minimal; about five minutes or so. Absolutely a good place to go if you want a relaxing ride in Fantasyland for the kids or the kid at heart. Went here for the first time today to ride the horses in the carousel. Quite fun, the line was a short 5 minute wait. Ride went by fast, I think they just do 4-6 turns and then we get off. The King Arthur Carrousel is the center of Fantasyland...literary. It should probably get 5 stars just on that fact alone. There is nothing more basic at a theme park than a carrousel. You can find one just about anywhere you go...there is even one on a cruise ship now. Sure you an ride the one on the cruise ship but you will not be experiencing Disneyland at the same time. There are 68 horses in the circle...each one just a bit different from the last one. There is even a special horse by the name of Jingles that is adorned with jingle bells all over and if you look close enough you will find a hidden mickey made up of jewels on the hind legs of the horse. The line for the carrousel is never too horrible. I think the most I have ever waited was a little over 10 minutes. Going on this attraction is a great way to break up a day of roller coasters and floating boats that sail through lands with singing children. If you are a parent going on it with your child make sure and position your little one on the outside horse and grab the seat just inside from them. This way when the ride is in motion if you slow down your shutter speed you will get magical looking pictures where your child is in focus but the rest of the background is zooming by behind them. Plus if you get a seat at the right location and take a picture before you start your background will be an amazing view of the castle. :0) read more

Why oh why have I avoided riding this carousel. You get to ride a beautiful horse. I saw a man on Dapper Day wave his cane in the air. I went on the carousel and wave my right arm like a pro. If you're going to ride this, you might as well get the most fun out of it. Tips: If you're not riding make sure you stay between the horses and make sure your little ones are nicely strapped in. The family and I enjoyed this ride twice mostly because of the fast line, and since the girls are only 2 1/2, the straps on the carousel horses made this very protective father a little more at ease for their safety . Fair warning though, once they allow you to put the kids on the carousel it's a literal free for all, meaning that people don't mind pushing their way past you no matter if you're holding a child or not. It's a carousel in Fantasyland. The younglings of my party wanted to get on it despite my warnings that the lines would get longer on other rides while they went on it. As far as tourism is concerned there is nothing significantly different from other carousels that I can notice, other than being able to see the Disneyland rides while going around and around--in fact, one could get on the carousel at the Irvine Spectrum and listen to a selection of music from Disney movies while it operates. I would think it's also not cost-effective for one's time at the park, since other lines got longer and the amount of time it took for the operator to embark and disembark the carousel came out to somewhere around 5-8 minutes or so, which could be better spent waiting for the submarine ride which doesn't have FastPass. For being a ride in itself, it's pretty conservative, though, since one of the younglings of our party got traumatized on Space Mountain and his parents seemed not to want to do a dark ride. read more

The horses are beautifully crafted and well taken care of. They never seem to age. Also no 2 horse is the same. Riding the carousel at night is amazing. Nothing makes this classic ride stand out amongst the many other carousels you've seen at your local carnival, mall, or zoo.... aside from it's Disney theme, the Disney songs capitalizing on that warm fuzzy feeling they stir up in your belleh, and it's central location in Fantasyland. It's a great ride with virtually no wait that almost all toddlers and kids love. Also, the cool grown-ups who know how to channel their inner child. There is a leather strap which you'll need to wrap around your kid if they're small though the holes are a bit large and they don't really stay on, so I recommend you stand by your child's horse and keep a hand on those who don't yet have as good of a physical command of their bodies or aren't tall enough to reach the footrests. If you're not a fan of the horses, like most merry-go-rounds, they have benches that remain stationary (as opposed to up and down like the horses) as the carousel spins.
