Restaurant Review I feel like King Gyro is the equivalent of Portillos for a person from Illinois. It is a small greasy spoon burger, gyro, hot dog place that is a town favorite. We were looking for some gyros in Fort Wayne and realize there were not many options available. The restaurant itself has plenty of parking. Staff was quick to take the order from a walk up window. The gyro itself had plenty of protein and cooked well without it dripping in grease. The fries were also the skinnier version, cooked well in fresh oil without the discoloration you would see with old oil. Now why 3 stars, I had the burger as well and it just isn't that good. Went here for dinner and the food was standard. Service is quick and friendly. It's a tad pricey for quick fast food but the portions are large. The fries are Crispy and fresh and worth ordering. Their burger I ordered was juicy and drippy and fresh and tasted really good. The gyro was dry but full of meat and little veggies. A side of extra taziki sauce would have been great. I went thru the drive thru and since it was my first time staff was Patient and answered my questions. It wasn't busy at the time so that made me happy to take my time. I'm not sure I'd go again for a couple of reasons, it's pretty far from my house and I'm the only one who likes Greek food in my household. So this place is kind of a local institution, and maybe I'm just too much of an "outsider," but I don't get it. In the Fort Wayne subreddit, people talk about this place as if eating there is one step away from seeing God. Maybe this location is preferable to the one on Jefferson, but that's a pretty low bar. The people at King Gyros are perfectly friendly, but the food is just not good. I've had the gyros there a few times - because I was *sure* something was wrong the other times - but each visit the food seems bad in distinct ways. The pita is unremarkable, with no flavor or texture, barely holding the gyro together. The meat is abundant but dry and lacking the punch of spice you'd expect from a good gyro. There is always a crazy amount of onions - almost as much (by volume) as there is meat. But worst of all is the tzatziki sauce, which tastes like equal parts Miracle Whip and cucumbers. No real creaminess, no herbs, no garlic, just strange oily texture and overwhelming cucumber. I want to like King Gyros, especially since it seems run by good people and offers good service. But the dish in your restaurant's name should be superlative, and I'm sorry to say I don't know how anyone finds their's even mediocre. read more

The service is terrible. We specifically went there on the way to a friend function for food, before they closed at 8:30. We ordered. Went to our event, came home, and realize that our gyro plate and gyro with feta came, but with no pita bread. And we called, at 6:45. We live on Dupont Road. The king hero we went to is on Goshen. We were in for the night. When we called, we said we would send a picture of what we got. We asked to be able to come out there again, for our pita bread plus a few extra And maybe some extra cheese. They said, no, you can come out for your pita bread that was missed on your order. We ended up with the telephone person telling us to bring the stuff back and they would refund us our money. So we waste more gas, take the items back, get refunded, and order the right one fresh. Food is very good. Service is very timely, especially for 7 pm. I have to give them a knock on rating due to the fact that everything is nickel and dimed out of you. The platter is easily for 2 to 3 people but, only comes with one pita and you have to pay for the extra bread. If it is for multiple gyros and people, why would you charge them extra just so the platter can be eaten? Refills are extra, btw. I've worked in the restaurant business for 10 years behind the scenes, refills don't cost very much in the first place and it is rude to charge when your customers are paying $1.59 for a small drink full of ice. The decor needs to be updated and represent the outside which, honestly, made me want to come in to eat. A few changes could really bring in more customers and returning customers. If you want great gyros, come here but, be prepared to be confused by the menu and pay extra for things that should be included, especially on the platter orders. read more

In a word, disgusting. It's the gyros equivalent of Powers. The onion there tastes as though they marinate it in condensed onion juice. I couldn't get the smell out of my hands for hours, no matter how much I scrubbed them. Laughably, I'd asked for no onion. The cucumber sauce, which is nothing like real tzatziki, is thin and insipid. The meat, well, the meat isn't terrible (again, too much onion) and the bread is ok. My problem is that it is nothing like a true gyros. I've had them in several parts of Greece and in Turkey. Maybe if you were to just get the meat and bread and put it together at home with your own condiments, the correct condiments, it would be okay. But then, you may as well make your own. read more
