I Don't recommend this place !! I have ate here a couple times of times the good ok ! The staff is some what ok , but the lady who works the cash register is rude and over charges you ! Say one price on the menu then say it's more and I ordered sweet and sour chicken she didn't give me my sauce . I will not recommend this place !!! read more

I was in town for a funeral, my cousin suggested this place to me. I went over and ordered my food in person. The total was completely different from what the menunjukkan suggested by $10. When I questioned the total the woman just repeated the amount charged. I paid it as it was late and I didn't want to spend time fussing over the total. When I got back to my room I realized she had given me two large soups (I ordered small for two) she never said they didn't have small. Also 5 bags of crunchy noodles. This and her lack of politeness mad me feel taken advantage of. I know times are hard and I fully support small business (including tipping) but a business that takes advantage of customers should not be supported. All of us work hard to earn our money so the businesses you support should honor that with respect as well. I don't live here, but buyer be aware. read more

Don't let the building scare you off, this is a damn good Chinese joint. Not a lot of bells and whistles, no fancy decor, just authentic Chinese food that is above average quality for an extremely reasonable cost. Loved the Sesame Chicken and Lo Mein noodles, General Tsao's and Broccoli Beef were good as well. They don't use MSG which is a major bonus and it's truly a family run restaurant which is something we love to get behind. A gang of West Coast Chinese food snobs is here to tell ya, King House is excellent bang for the buck grub. We'll definitely be back, repeatedly I'm sure! read more

My first experience with King House, but not my last. Maybe the exterior appearance and location sort of intimidated me before- it ain't a pretty building or area, but the food is excellent and the service (at least as to take out) was good. I had a combo Szechuan dish (perfectly seasoned- but not too picante') along with lo mein and rice and an egg roll. My first wife had just chicken noodle soup and my other wife had combo lo mein and gyoza. Everything was very good. My only criticism would be that the lo mein was a bit sweet. We agreed that maybe the place shared a "King" name with King's Island because they might be affiliated. The food was THAT good. But I don't think they are related. Parking is unlimited and free, Prices are very economical for the quality here. It pays to be in the "low rent district". Give them a try. you'll like them. read more

I am really particular about my Chinese food and have tried a few places around town and came to the conclusion that for Chinese food, this is the best place in the area. The food I ordered has been consistent, flavorable everytime (which is not the same I can say about every Chinese spot) and relatively inexpensive. The problems though are many. The staff is inconsistent with their attitude. The place is a dive, but I go because the food is good and it's hard to find good Chinese food in my opinion. However, most of the time the staff fail to smile and seem like they could care less whether you return or not. I also hate the fact that the pricing is clearly listed but somehow I pay 10 cents more than what was listed on the menu. They use a calculator instead of the register to calculate your total price and come up with some random number. That is not cool. I also have a problem with their sizing. I'm used to the Chinese take-out containers of a pint and a quart. Well on their menu (I didn't write it up, they did) they have pricing for a pint and a quart. Yet you get all your food in a styrofoam container. I highly doubt you really get a pint worth of food. Or a quart worth. My favorite place in NC did use the containers and I always had food left over. Here I don't. What you get is a ton of rice a a little bit of the food. It's enough but it ain't what they advertised. They should just change the menu to sizes of small and medium. That's more accurate and not lying to the customer. All in all, the food is the best in the area for fairly cheap food. For your reference, I've been to Eastern Gourmet, Jade Palace, Kings Island, the hibachi/Chinese buffett place on Wards Road, and the Chinese place on Timberlake. I should say I cut my teeth on Kings Island way back in the day. It was my frame of reference---that and Chung King. But when I last went a couple years ago, the place wasn't too clean and the food was too salty and tastless. Eastern Gourmet and the place on Timberlake were good. But Eastern G.'s food is inconsistent. The first few times I went, the food was good. The last 2 times, it was pretty tasteless and bland. The place on Timberlake, well I saw the owners kids play with the buffet when the buffet was open, for a loonnngg time. I'm not a fan of buffet so I usually order off the menu. Their issue is the pricing. You can get a similar dish at King House for 1/2 what you pay there. read more

Here's the thing: the signs aren't lying. They really do cook the best, most flavorful Chinese in town. We've moved around to different parts of Lynchburg and tried to find a closer place, but couldn't find anybody that met King House's standard for good ol' General Tso's and Chicken Lo Mein. I've never had an issue with the service, even ordering by phone; once they got our order wrong, and they fixed it on the spot. I don't doubt at all what Glen L said about the rudeness of the staff. They do have huge signs that exclaim their desire for cash and they didn't seem overly friendly, even when we left a tip, but honestly, I would go back because the cream cheese wontons were so good and so CHEAP. You can get 10 for $3. Asian cuisine is not a favorite, but just like Mcdonalds, if you crave it once in a while, it's in a convenient location (for me) and the prices were pretty incredible. The guys who came in after us were from out of town (one from outside the country) and one said to the other,"They have the best chicken wings in town." I took everything with a grain of salt (or msg as the case may be...) because it IS in the ghetto. And I can totally say that because I live there too. read more

This place has GREAT sesame chicken primarily because it's the only place in Lynchburg that seems to have crispy fried chicken covered in sauce, rather than halfway fried mushy chicken like the other Chinese take out competitors in the area - the sauce is tasty, and exactly what it should be. Not to mention, the 5$ lunch special that includes some pork fried rice on the side is bangin'. I don't know about the other items on the menu, but the sesame chicken is a 5 star for sure. read more

Food actually isn't bad. But they try to charge you for everything under the sun. I was especially miffed when they charged me .75 for a few flakes of chili pepper. I nearly walked out. I don't feel I get quite as much value here, as I would at similar places, but I just get a strange feeling here. Like they are a little sleazy or something. My first review was filtered out, so here it is again... I know this is for food reviews and if you have no morals or are strictly looking for decent chinese food, the food here is above average. However, this evening, I was scolded for not paying with cash. Their minimum charge on credit/debit is $5.00 and I was well over that, however, the young lady behind the counter said, "You no have cash for me? Why you no have cash? Why Americans never have cash?" Not only was I insulted, but then wondered why cash was so important. Is it because of the credit card fees that business have to pay to accept them, or was it the fact that by paying by debit card, the sale was now accountable and thereby subject to city and state taxes? I refuse to go back based on my principles, though I will be missing out of some good sesame chicken. As I left, I noticed a note taped to their cash register that read "We prefer cash!" So do I. I've been coming here for about 10 years now. They really do have the best sesame chicken in Lynchburg. It's spicy and crispy, which is a nice change from the usual watery, mushy sesame chicken I get elsewhere. They've spoiled me, so I can't even tolerate the other places in town now. The important thing to note is that this is a no-frills take-out place. I've never experienced overt rudeness like some of the other comments, and you only interact with the employees for a minute to order and pay. Been awhile since they messed up my order so bad last time. Thought id give it another chance. Got sweet & sour chicken with white rice. The chicken was so though you couldnt chew it some peices were so over cooked they were not just crispy but hard as a rock. The rice was cold and sticky. Not a good meal at all. Threw up soon after eating it. No need to conplain they wont make it good. Found that out last time. Last chance. Will not go there again. My opinion, skip it. Too many other better places out there. I've been enjoying their food for nearly ten years, especially the curry chicken with onions. My wife loves their General Tso's chicken, saying it is the best in town, hands down. The prices are reasonable, and the service is quick. The staff have a very limited command of English, so you have to listen carefully to make sure you get what you want when they repeat it back to you. Drink selection is quite limited, and table service is almost non-existent, as all they do is deliver the order to your table when it's ready. The tableware is usually plastic and foam, though sometimes is of a permanent sort. All-in-all, I think it's a great place for good, inexpensive food! read more

My aunt and I ordered dinner from king house and the lady gives us the wrong order we called and she tells us to bring it back and she will give us the right food so we go in and give the food back wait for another 10 min and she hands us our containers and when we checked them they seemed to be fine but when we got home we found out that all she did was pick the chicken off the top of one meal and replace it with shrimp because the bottom still had chicken, the other meal was SUPPOSED to be sesame chicken but they gave me orange chicken and they "fixed" it by pouring more sauce on top of the already sauce smothered chicken and sprinkling sesame seeds on it. Then when I called back again the lady yelled that we were liars and that the food was good then hung up on me. Lesson learned...no more business for them. read more

WORST General Tso's chicken ever! It had no flavor, neither did the pork fried rice it came with. I couldn't even chew through the chicken. The egg roll was mehh, pretty tasteless too. I wouldn't eat it again nor recommend it. read more
