Review of East Shore YMCA - Unclean, Unprofessional, Unsafe…read moreAs a high-volume triathlete training for multiple Ironman events, my daily sessions often exceed five hours, with weekly totals ranging from 22 to 30 hours. I'm not a casual gym-goer--I know what a professionally run gym and aquatic facility should look like. Unfortunately, East Shore YMCA consistently falls short of even the most basic standards. ‍ Pool Conditions: Inconsistent and Unsafe - On some days, the pool is barely passable. On others, I'd be better off putting on a wetsuit and swimming in the river across the street. - I've personally seen used bandages floating in the pool and scattered around the deck--items I've had to alert apathetic lifeguards about. - Hygiene rules are routinely ignored, and enforcement is selective at best. I've witnessed multiple instances where individuals who were not certified lifeguards were stationed on duty. - Swimming here poses a legitimate health risk--both from potential staph infections due to water quality and from the possibility of an emergency being handled by underqualified staff. - Frankly, I'm surprised the Department of Health hasn't intervened under Title 28, Chapter 18. ‍ Weight Room: Disorderly and Unsupervised - The weight room often resembles a romper room more than a training facility. - Equipment is frequently left out or not wiped down. I've returned weights myself to prevent hazards--despite not being staff. - Unruly children run through the space unchecked, creating safety risks for those trying to train seriously. - While not as unsanitary as the pool, the environment reinforces every negative stereotype associated with Harrisburg city gyms. It's a shame, because the members seem to have accepted these low standards--and the staff reflects that same indifference. Location vs. Standards I live just two blocks from this facility, and for a while, convenience kept me coming back. But after touring the LA Fitness across the river, I realized I no longer need to tolerate a gym that fails to meet even the most basic expectations of professionalism, cleanliness, and safety. By contrast, the Camp Hill YMCA is everything East Shore is not--clean, professional, and well-managed. The difference is stark, and it's clear that East Shore YMCA does not prioritize its patrons' well-being. The standards here are not YMCA standards--they're simply what the staff and members have allowed to persist

Still a one star review. This place goes through executive directors like crazy. If you want to…read moremake sure machines are working you'd be better off at a box gym.

The instructors, classes, and members are all so amazing that I can't imagine life without Momentum. Classes are challenging, but everyone's supportive and it's so exciting to see progress. Everyone starts out on the struggle bus, but we get better every day and feel great. Trust me, physical benefits are secondary compared to how good you feel after a Momentum workout. Not sure it's for you? Try a guest pass! You're going to love it.

Wow! No one has reviewed this yet?! I'm shocked!…read more I've been a member of various gyms in the past, so when I arrived in town to begin work, I looked around at my options. Upon setting foot in the door, I immediately knew that Momentum was a perfect fit. It's an all-female gym for starters--a huge plus in my book! There are women there of all shapes and sizes and all abilities, so I haven't yet felt self-conscious or clumsy. The staff is super-friendly and helpful... as are the members! Many of the folks know one another on a first-name basis, which is unlike the fitness facilities I've belonged to in the past. Momentum has a wide array of cardio and strength-training equipment. Also, another cool plus--when you join, they provide a free goal-setting session so you can map out what it is that you'd like to achieve. They also will set up separate appointments to train you on their cardio and strength training equipment. I imagine this would be particularly helpful for women that haven't used this equipment before. The class schedule is has a lot of diverse offerings and it spans the entire day. The earliest classes start at 5:30am, which is great if you're an early-bird like me. They have spin, yoga, pilates, BodyPump (strength training), BodyAttack (cardio), and a bunch of other offerings. Thus far, I've been very pleased with all of the classes and instructors. If you're a beginner (like me), the instructor will usually work with you before the class to get you familiar with form/techniques and give you some tips on how to get the most out of the class. Another huge plus--this facility is kept immaculately clean. They have showers, tanning booths, a sauna, etc. They also have a day care room for kids with toys and a space where they teach them yoga while the moms work out. (It's adorable!) This little community of all-women fitness-goers definitely has a very supportive vibe. I can't say enough good things about this place! If you're in the market for an all-female gym, definitely check this place out!

The staff is very knowledgeable, professional and attentive to the needs of each of their patrons. The community is a group of fun, already fit-minded individuals who are ready to get the work done. The workouts are structured in a series format which I love with evaluations at the beginning and end of the series so you can celebrate your success. Most importantly, the mindset is yes challenge yourself but make sure you work out smart so your injuries don't prevent you from working out and reaching your goals. The staff knows how to give you the proper modifications and there is no shame in modifying your w/o. Ya gotta start where you are. The place has a great sound system, it's clean, spacious, organized and there is even a cute dog there to play with before the workout begins. Lastly all the exercises are explained clearly! The coaches are experienced and knowledgeable, and the classes are small enough that they can give each member plenty of attention. They spend a lot of time going over fundamentals to make sure that each member is performing the movements in a safe, effective way. I can't say enough about the members! There's a great mix of young and old, novice and experienced, men and women... and they make anyone who walks into the gym feel welcome! Getting started with Crossfit can be an intimidating thing, but that feeling fades as soon as you meet the smiling, welcoming faces of the members there!

Only this yoga mimics the identical feeling you get after a long run. It is an intense, yet calming, workout. And, it is the identical 26+2 postures and breathing exercises regardless of the studio. So, you can go anywhere and you know exactly what you're getting. Having practiced Bikram in many studios throughout the United States, Drip 105 Hot Yoga is by far the cleanest and most welcoming studio I've been to. The instructors are wonderful and always very encouraging. Laura, the owner, takes great pride in her studio and it shows in everything she does. She's constantly trying to meet and exceed the needs of her practitioners. And now, the studio is offering Inferno Hot Pilates classes in addition to Bikram!
