I always stop in the historic downtown lots of interesting sights to see make sure and stop at all the parks,visitor center and museums the visitor center has tons of information the nice things it's across from the locomotive park. Main Street has lots of places to eat and antique stores. Lots of history plus Route 66 runs through town read more

Purposeful stop in Kingman for us: Lunch at Garibaldi's (see my review - yes, TOTALLY WORTH IT - SEEK OUT GARIBALDI'S, you will NOT be disappointed!). Flew into Vegas, stopped at the Hoover Dam, and Kingman was the next planned stop on our trip to & around the Grand Canyon. Small town (but big by comparison to the desert "nothingness" immediately around it). Gas prices are decent. Drive the speed limit! There's some neat artwork in the historical section near the train depot. Fun fact: Kingman boasts one of the lowest crime rates in the country. Traveler FYI: From Grand Canyon West, Kingman is 1.5 hrs away; Peach Springs is 2.5 hrs away. Pretty much the only thing in Peach Springs is the Hualapai Lodge, a convenience store/gas station, and a little further east (towards Seligman) is the Grand Canyon Caverns. May want to consider that in your trip-planning. We stayed in Seligman (see my reviews of Canyon Lodge and Delgadillo's Sno Cap), did the Hualapai "River Special," then stayed at Hualapai Lodge (included in the "River Special"). FYI: Other reviews I've posted in this general area: Hualapai Lodge, Diamond Creek Restaurant, Hualapai River Runners. 3 in our party did not go on the rafting adventure. Instead, they had planned a tour of vista points at Grand Canyon West. When they learned of the long drive, they opted out. As planned, they spent a 2nd night in Seligman at Canyon Lodge. Worst place in Arizona! Nothing to eat, nowhere to stay, devoid of culture or class. Avoid Kingman.

Extremely upset with the City of Kingman Water/Sewer/Trash Company! Somehow I missed a payment and was behind. They sent me a disconnect notice on the the 8th and it arrived yesterday at 4:45pm. (15 minutes before the close of business!) I called them stating, I had somehow missed a payment and do not get paid until Wednesday ..(Tomorrow) They informed me they no longer extend payment arrangements and the water would be shut off that day. Today I went to the pawn shop as soon as they opened. With something I value to no end. Got the $100 thank you Pawn World. I get to the City of Kingman Water department pay the bill and ask for a manager. A blonde woman came out introduced herself, I then explain that I take of of my dissabled mom and to have 15 minutes to come up with $100 is NOT GOOD BUSINESS PRACTICE. She tells me they give 10 days from they day they send the notice. Blames the post office and then tells me about auto bill pay. HUHH??? What in the hell?? That has NOTHING to do with giving me 15 minutes to figure out how to come up with just under $100 to pay the bill. This was a honest mistake and I am nearly certain that with a dissabled person can't get the major utilities shut off when the temperatures are over 90 deg. Water is important to living. Blaming the post office blew my mind! Then telling me there is auto bill pay..(Most all companies have this option) Then ignoring the fact that I have a dissabled mother in the home... JUST SHAME ON YOU KINGMAN WATER COMPANY SHAME SHAME SHAME SHAME!!! Edit: Also want to make note that I let her know that I would be posting to social media about how angry I was about this situation. What's the reason for the existence of this back water town? There isn't. It exists only because of Hwy 40 and to harass outsiders. What they should have done when they built Hwy 40 was to veered west at town of Yucca and by passed to this fly-by-night town to save everyone the misery of going the extra miles that it takes to reach Flagstaff. If you happen to have to go through this sewer town, like I had to, I suggest go straight through - do not stop or you may also be harassed by some local yokel, who may place a bogus called to the police about you driving erratically. We thought it would be nice to take Route 66 instead of the going down boring Hwy 40. Unfortunately for us, Route 66 goes through the streets of Kingman. It was almost high noon under the dessert sun so I decided to stop at the local market to get some water - big mistake. I came out of the market with cops by my car asking if they could talk to me. WTF?! The cops were nice enough but apparently some a-hole followed me down the highway and into the parking lot and then call the police telling them I was drunk and had headed into the market. So the cops waited by my car until I came out of the store. The cops were nice enough but it was more than just embarrassing having to be question in public. This is probably how the locals get their kicks on Rout 66. Next time? Everyone should stay away. Let Kingman wither away from the lack of outside money like so many little towns that used to be on Route 66. read more

Kingman is a small town, right now nearing 30K residents. Most people drive at the speed limit, stop for pedestrians, and yield to cars with the right-of-way. Fifteen minutes to cross the entire city, you rarely see anyone rushing to save a few extra seconds. Ask directions or for a restaurant or hotel recommendation and you will get all the honest details. Kingman annually hosts visitors from all over the world as well as from every State in the Union. The city was hit hard by the last Recession and the interminable Recovery, but there are clearly signs of rebuilding. It doesn't have chic restaurants, but there are some real gems scattered around town. It doesn't have a bunch of art galleries, but Beale Street has a unique artists' facility hosting emerging talent from around the world. It doesn't have a lot of museums, but it hosts the only dedicated Electric Car museum in the world. True, most tourists rush through town. They miss all this and a world of outdoor activities, like the 2.3 million acres of BLM-managed Federal land with some of the most scenic and sustainable mountain bike, hiking, and horse trails in the Southwest. With a temperature profile similar to Sacramento and most of the Central Valley of California, it is cooler in the summer than Phoenix or the Colorado River and warmer in the winter than Flagstaff. Yes, I'm a fan, not only for what is here now, but the tremendous potential that is only now being unlocked. I've lived and worked all around the US and a few other places around the world. I hope to help release some of the potential while preserving Kingman's finest qualities and make it a five-star location. It is not for everyone, but all you Upper Midwest people who crave a warmer climate with a small town atmosphere and lower cost-of-living, this is the place you should consider for your home. read more

Kingman is a nice city in the other edge of Arizona and one of the few original towns to survive the death of the Mother Road. However it survived and flourished. Rife with off freeway gas stations, food adventures and some Hollywood pizazz like Andy Device and this being the location of Gable & Lombard's honeymoon makes the town kind of charming. I have not been able to determine the industry there or the homes and neighborhoods because it is a place you drive by, gas up and go. The people in town are very friendly and the area us rather lovely. I should, as an Arizona native, allow myself some time to explore this piece of history. read more
