    Free boat slip with stay
    Kevin S.

We are a family of five from a few hours away and were hoping to find an old Florida style hotel with a slip for our boat. Kings Bay was perfect and exactly what we wanted! The staff could not be any more friendly and accommodating. They were always smiling and eager to talk about the "can't miss" spots on and off the water. The kids enjoyed the unique pool. The room doesn't offer many frills, but we weren't hoping for many. The kitchenette was very handy and they even had parking nearby for our boat trailer. We will definitely stay there again and highly recommend Kings Bay to anyone seeking a good old Florida style hotel.

Very nice place. Clean, quiet and right on the water. We stayed in room 16. It had a king size bed and kitchenette. We will be back.

After reading all the reviews, I would say give this place another try. We recently stayed there during their soft reopening after Hurricane Helene. While there was not many guests, reception, continental breakfast and housekeeping were all handled well. The room is akin to a basic hotel room, no frills but comfortable and there is a mini fridge. It was comfortable. My only complaint is the water pressure in the shower. My favorite feature is the manatee water fountain at the front of the property. Even if you choose to stay elsewhere, stop by to check out the fountain.

Booked directly with hotel. This is the price of a decent room in a decent hotel. First, this place is undergoing renovations from a prior flood a few years ago (why still under renovation after so long?) - so expect nothing fancy. There was trash around the grounds and hallways. The sound traveled down the halls into the rooms because of all the tile - expect LOTS of noise. We had to call maintenance because our dresser drawers kept rolling out - they sent someone up to tape the drawers shut (classy!). This place is the quality of a Motel 6! They did not provide full service housekeeping - they only changed towels and did not straighten up or even make the beds. When I asked about this, they said they made this change recently because they lacked staff. But, the price did not change as a result. I argued that I was not informed of this on booking and since they removed this service after I booked the rooms they should charge less. The manager checked with the new owners who said they would not refund anything. Obviously they care less about customer service than making a profit. Sad. When you stay in a hotel, you should have your beds made (they don't have to change the linens, but at least make the beds). The breakfast - cold stuff, nothing special. The lady who oversaw this was very friendly though. This place is just dirty and outdated (even the so called "renovated" parts). The only good thing is it being conveniently located next to the charter boats for scalloping. I would not stay here again.

We received another confirmation email prior to our arrival that made it clear early check-in before 3 could not be accommodated so we were careful to arrive between the check-in hours of 3-9 PM. Check-in was easy and the room was very well appointed with everything we needed. We've stayed in everything from 5-star hotels in Europe and Indonesia to very cheap motels in small towns. This hotel competes with some of the better places we have stayed. The hotel is has been renovated by the owners and matches the cute quaint vibe of the city itself, Crystal River. It is also within walking distance of shops, restaurants, and the water / boat ramps which we loved. The room came with a bottle of wine and some sweet treats which we really appreciated. Especially once we learned that getting a spot for dinner on Valentines Day in the small town was pretty much impossible. Because of this we opted to get carry out, open our wine, and enjoy the dessert left in the room. As others mentioned the room was spotless, we found the decor to be current and fresh, the bathroom was stunning, and the AC and refrigerator were perfect. We will return at the next possible time and highly, highly recommend.

Check in was quick and I appreciated them switching us to a suite because we had 3 adults and two kids. It was a little more comfortable with the pull out couch and a little table to sit at. Right away we discovered that the toilet was not functional and called the front desk. We told them we were going to grab dinner and to please send someone over. They did but there wasn't much the maintenance woman could do at the moment. She promised to have a plumber in while we were out in the morning. I wasn't happy about 5 people in a room without a toilet that would flush more than liquid, but we made due for the evening. After the plumber came it was slightly better, but not the way it should be. Luckily we were out of the hotel most of the time so we didn't make a fuss and the lobby bathroom wasn't far if needed. While the staff was helpful, the place wasn't up to par. It's a Best Western so you don't expect much but the place is pretty dingy and needs some cleaning and upgrades. They're still getting decent money for the location and they seem to be floating on that alone.

Now, what I will say that was nice was the friendliness of the staff and the location (it's in the centre of town). However, considering that Crystal River is a very small town to begin with, any other hotel would be fine. The room we stayed in was moldy. I mean, EXTREMELY moldy. We had to buy Damprid just to get through 3 days. And, I don't know how they did it, but it was more humid in the room than outside. To add on, the floors were dirty as hell. Like, dirtier than a dog that's been playing in mud. And, the bathroom was nasty! For ~$225 a night, NOT WORTH IT.

They gave us an old boat, radio didn't work, and top was extremely hard to retract which we had to do before going thru an underpass upriver. The boat acted weird but 1 hour down the river the boat completely quit! Called and they sent Todd an hour upstream (nice guy) to us. He couldn't get the boat started, so had to pull us back to their dock. So 3 hours spent on the water with only one hour of our 4 hour rental enjoyable. Todd assured us over and over they would make this right, we would not be charged, not our fault, etc. Todd did offer us another boat, but it was 3:30 and I'm sure they would not have waited for us to get our other 3 hours, I would not want to be on the river after dark! It's now March 11, we have returned to TN the end of Feb and still no credit for our broken down boat. After countless phone calls, the owner Stan finally agreed on March 6 to refund half our 300$ spent. It's now March 11 and no money has been refunded. Be careful renting from this company, and don't let them give you the old brown pontoon. If Todd had told us the policy was "no refund" we would have got another boat before we left the end of February!
