One of the best camp grounds we've stayed at. Very clean. The staff members are coming through all the time picking up trash and lining the bins placed through out the park. No having to lug your trash every day to the dumpster, just place it at the end of your site. There are bathrooms connected to the front office/store, there are two private restrooms w/handicap accessible shower seats on the left side of the park towards the back and another large bath house on the right side of the park with multiple stalls and showers. All which were always clean. There was even a dishwashing station with a 3 bin sink and hot and cold water. Especially good for tent campers so you don't have to lug a bunch of dirty dishes home. Next to the dish washing station there was also a dog washing station. How awesome is that. Most of the RV sites are pretty spacious and gravel underneath and all have a picnic table and fire ring. However, there are some that have a concrete pad and some of the deluxe sites even have a full grill, a raised brick fire pit w/grill grate and even a patio area chairs and a table. There is decent wifi and some sites have cable. There are two dumpsites on the way out of the park and even a fresh drinking water station near the tent campers area so you're not having to lug in water for your tent site. The store is open 9-5, 7 days a week. There are somes snacks/groceries, rv supplies, pet items, firewood, and there was even a slushie machine inside, and a large coffee machine with flavorings. During the cold months they have a fire roaring in the fireplace, so cozy. The last couple of days there they got in ice cream that you can buy by the scoop, in a cup or a cone. The orange sherbet was delicious. The staff members were so helpful and friendly. I highly recommend this camp ground to anyone staying in the area. Especially if you're planning on visiting Kings Dominion Amusement park. It was closed while we were there but opens in the summer months and they offer shuttle service to the park. Although we did not stay at the cabins they looked very nice from the outside and from the pics online. There was a dog park but it was all the way to the back left behind the tent sites, kind of out of the way. There is also a laundry room on site connected to the office. No need to try to make change and lug around a bunch of quarters. There is a machine that lets you swipe your debit card and choose the machines you want to use, very handy. There are 4 washers and 4 dryers. All of which worked very well for me. The area is very wooded. We came in the early spring and it was very nice, I can only imagine how beautiful it is when all the trees are full. read more

Lived in #Virginia for 15 years I've never been here before. This place is wonderful it's near Kings Dominion well it's on the same ground but the campground itself is wonderful. Family friendly diversity friendly. There's a shuttle service from the campground to Kings Dominion/Soak City. Over all it is a nice place to bring the family. If you don't have a camper and tenting is not for you, by all means rent a cabin. Today we seen several birthday parties. There is a place for churches to gather and groups. They host a Sunday service at 9 AM. The pool is open I believe 10 AM to 8 PM. It's a salt water is excellent for the skin. They offer games like volleyball, tether ball, giant checkers. They have a sitting area where you can watch television. Were those in HanoverCountyVA and #CarolineCountyVA come on over this is a place you want to camp. I hope those of you that read this review make the time to come here because whether you going to #KingsDominion #SoakCity or not you definitely want to spend time at this #campground. read more

On my original date 6/22I was unable to visit due to an emergency room visit & I thought I had lost my deposit but they called and rescheduled my stay for 7/22. I thought that was nice but it was more money for the time selected. Kings Dominion is right down the street, we decided just to relax by our cabin and the pool. Beware the loft is mostly for children. An adult can't stand up there only sleep. The cabin was nice but extra details in vacuuming and cleaning the carpet in the loft area and getting rid of the cobwebs. Check your shower curtain liners, they can be filled with mold. The cabins are in need at least a 18 cu ft refrigerator. The dorm size does not accommodate ten people. There's a swampy area behind cabin 2C, thought the mosquitoes would be bad but they were not. But make sure you have sunscreen and repellent. Brings wipes to wipe down your cabin. Staff will come around the next morning to get you fresh towels and there are no dishes or utensils. My family and will definitely be back in the fall or maybe during December holiday. Enjoy de-plugging! read more

We use to camp here all of the time years ago, before KOA took it over. We stayed in one of the cabins instead of our camper because we were curious. The campsite is clean and staff are friendly. We didn't have time for the pool and playground because we spent most of the time at kings dominion. There is a free shuttle that runs all day while the park is open. It comes very often and the drivers are so nice. The cabin area itself, drive very slowly because there are a lot of kids playing and riding bikes, and they run into the road. The cabin itself sleeps 10 and take that literal because 10 people would not be comfortable hanging out there all day lol. We went with 3 adults and a toddler. It's very cute. Two futons and a mini kitchen - small fridge, sink, coffee maker and microwave. There isn't a stove, so be sure to bring charcoal, skillet, etc. There is a charcoal grill outside, picnic table and fire ring. There are two full bathrooms but they are pretty small. The shower is not made for taller people. There is one private bedroom downstairs. Upstairs is split in two sections and warning: it is not made for tall people, older people or anyone with bad knees. You cannot stand up upstairs if you are over 3.5 feet. My toddler is 38 inches and he was able to touch the ceiling and got a kick out of it . The balcony in the upstairs room looking down was pretty cool. Father day weekend was perfect at this quite family oriented campground. Unfortunately due to COVID-19 not very much was opening in the surrounding area, but we made the best of the situation. Camp sites are perfectly maintained. Plenty of trash facilities. We are self contained so we didn't have to use the bathroom or shower houses but from the outside they looked very clean and welcoming. The store had everything you could possibly need through your stay. Ice cream parlor on site too bad I'm lactose intolerant let me add this campground is on the theme park property and has shuttles back and forth which is so convenient. read more

We have stayed here EVERY year since 2012, with the exception of 2017. This year was a HUGE disappointment. Our "premium site" was waterlogged and smelled like sewage. We stayed 1 night while traveling back from Florida. Our site has the hook ups literally right outside our camper door. We had to not only run the water & electric under the camper to our outside living area our neighbors used the same shared utility post so their water and electric cables ran across our front yard too ! I did call as we didn't have a picnic table either and they did offer to change the site so that was responsive. read more

Visited from TN. Purchased the Fast Pass Plus bands and it was a rip off due to the fact that at least 4 of the big rides were down...at least 4. My suggestion is to contact them prior to purchasing to see if the rides will be running before making that expensive purchase. It turned out to be not worth the money. The Volcano, Avalanche, Drop Tower and the Wind Sweeper (that one I probably messed up) were all down. Drinks...4 bucks...no outside food or drinks. It wasn't a complete bad experience but operable rides would have made it all worth the while. read more

The cabins are very nice. Kind of like a tiny house. There are two sleeping areas upstairs in the loft, a bedroom downstairs with a queen size bed, two bathrooms each with their own shower, and a living room with two futons. Each living area has its own television set. The cabin comes with a sink, mini fridge and a microwave. I really enjoy the layout of this place. Outside you have your own personal barbecue and a area to make a fire. The staff is very courteous and polite. The cabins are also extremely clean. I was very impressed with how clean these places are. It was a little more pricier than staying at an actual hotel room but I feel it was well worth the extra few dollars . read more

Just returned from a long weekend at the KD Camp ground. We rented one of their many cabins and found them very clean, comfortable, quiet, and room enough for the 5 of us. Surprisingly, there were four (4) flat screen TVs-more than enough for us. Also we had our own grill right outside our front door- it was very nice. One observation that I believe is worth noting - in our deluxe cabin - 2 full baths and the ability to sleep up to 8 has an upstairs loft for 4 guests - the ceiling in the loft is very low - probably no higher than 4 feet at best which causes adults or taller children to either crawl or stoop as they move around upsatirs - the baths are down stairs so that's not a concern - the stairs going upstairs are a bit steep and at the top again the low ceiling causes you to stoop as your enter the loft area-going down the stairs as well is a bit of a challenge - it's not a draw back as we enjoyed our stay a great deal but it would fine for younger/smaller children but for adults or taller folks it is an adventure. read more

Clean bathroom and great camp store. You can't walk through the campground to get to Kings Dominion. You have to walk along the road (~20 minutes to ticket entrance). Walking probably took the same time as the shuttle, since you have to wait for the shuttle to leave the campground. A loud train might wake you up in the morning. The campground is almost purely pine trees. Most people were staying in RV sites. The staff at the registration desk (in the camp store) was slow but friendly and helpful. They said if we didn't like our assigned campsite we could move if we let them know. read more

I would give it 5 stars as the cabins were awesome, camp ground store has everything so don't stress tent stakes, marshmallow sticks, beer and etc. only thing was buses to the park times became sporadic with only 1 driver, the pool had too many silly rules and closed at 7. read more

Stayed in one of the cabins recently.. We didnt notice the bedbugs until preparing to leave on the 3rd day.. Thankfully my 5 year old son slept on the sofa bed and not in the main bedroom. My wife also was spared because she also slept on sofa bed with my son due to the higher temp in the main bedroom. It is a week later and I am still miserable.. I feel infected. My body is covered in inflamed bite marks..very itchy, painful, and disgusting.. I tried every ointment known to man & rubbing alcohol .. etc.. nothing works .. seems every day a new bump and mark appears... The officials at the park made it clear that this was not the first time they had bedbugs.. they were very nonchalant about it. originally got reimbursed for one day, then my wife called them and they reimbursed the second night.. but the point is, any regular cleaning, changing, of the sheets would reveal the tremendous amount of bedbugs in the mattress.. & now i know, the sheets aren't changed, and if they are, the entire cleaning crew should be fired. If my son had slept in that bed it would be all of HELL to pay ... lawyers would have had a field day with that one but i digress , don't stay at this place unless you own a RV or camper.. don't sleep in the cabins.. read more

This past weekend was our first experience here. Let me start of by saying that the facility has a lot going for it. The biggest downfall is the staff. PLEASE read this if you are considering staying here and booking your visit. The staff is comprised of the same teenagers who work at Kings Dominion. They really are not invested in the smooth running of this operation, nor did it seem like their "manager" was that qualified either. 1. When you call to book your stay you should know that you are NOT calling Camp Wilderness. You are calling some central booking agency. They are not on site nor are they trained to know what RV'ers need. They also DO NOT assign you a space when you call. When we arrived we watched two prior visitors ask to be moved because of the inappropriate space they were given. 2. Only some of the spaces for RV's have cable. If you have the diagram, only the spaces in RED have cable if that is important to you. If having cable is important you should make that known when you reserve with them. They did not bother to tell me that the space in the middle of the woods that we were assigned did not have cable. 3. Only half of the park is solid surface driveway/concrete/asphalt. If you need or want that you need to tell them. We own a 40 foot Class A Diesel pusher and they put us literally on the ground. Hydraulic Jacks do not like this. We were put in unit 280 if you have the map. Everything on that side of the park is under tall pine trees and raw ground. Only the driving area is gravel. Once you back into your space you are on raw ground. This was annoying. I was told by the booking company that there were no pull thru spaces however when we got there for the weekend there were at least 6-7 that were never used. So that tells me that the offsite booking company knows nothing about Camp Wilderness specifics. Be informed and if in doubt ask to be given the number to Camp Wilderness directly and talk to someone who is actually ON SITE (and not a 16 year old). The great part is that this place is clean and very family friendly. There are tons of things for kids to do so that parents can have some adult time. The general store is nice. Lots of outdoor activities for play. The pool had not opened for the season but it is a nice pool and has accommodations for handicap swimmers with lift chair.!! Restrooms are very clean as was the laundry room area. This is a great place for people who do not have RV's or campers and who either tent or rent the cottages. The cottages are A W E S O M E !!! I would stay in a cottage before checking into a hotel for Kings Dominion. The cottages are cute and well maintained. There is a park shuttle for people who cannot walk the 2 blocks to Kings Dominion (yes, sarcasm here). Walk 10 miles at a theme park but not walk 2 blocks to get to it........... It is a bit tricky finding the place because you assume it is part of Kings Dominion. When you exit the highway 95, headed east you will see all of the KD entrance signs and street turns. IGNORE ALL OF THAT and keep straight. Once you go about 2 blocks you will cross the train tracks and on your right is the entrance to Camp Wilderness. Once inside, it is easy to navigate. Will we go back? Yes. Will we be more specific about where we ask to be assigned. read more

I only like to go to kings dominion for the summer. But i spent a little over $100 for 2 people for fright fest and most of the scary stuff that was supposed to be open at 7pm wss closed. I only got to go to blackout and a few rides. Not worth the money. read more

Very sad and disappointed that this campground carries the Kings Dominion name which is a great park. Short version: These tent sites are pathetic, they're tiny, terribly organized, hit & miss like someone said (meaning you may have to fight to get your picninc table or fire ring) and very expensive, 45% more than our usual place. Don't waste your time here. Long version: We love Kings Dominion and our usual campground was full so we decided to try King Dominion's Camp Wilderness even though it is super expensive, $51 a night compared to $35 at Pocahontas State Park. First the good: The store has a ton of stuff, very well stocked. The pool looked nice but we couldn't use it because our son had an injury. Now our experience: We get there, they give us lot 102. We go, it doesn't seem tent friendly. Hard surface (for parking and trailers?), some space to put the tent but not much and wide open, no trees or anything and the land looked super hard, no tent site. Maybe our fault, we wanted a water/electric near the main store/bathroom and didn't realize these lots weren't for tents. We go to the office and get lot D and this is better, some grass, trees but no picnic table it seems some people took our table. We brought our lunch so we were supposed to get there and sit on the table and eat right away. Now it's been like 40 min and no lunch. We go back to the office and explain the situation. The lady says "Do you want us to send someone to get your table or do you want to do it yourself". I'm like seriously? So I ask them to send someone. We go back, wait, 2 guys come, they don't seem helpful at all. So at this point we have several discussions about getting the table, where to put it and getting the fire ring, where to put it, the elctric connection is too far the neigbors not only took our table but took some of our space so we can't put the ring, just problem after problem. So I ask the guy what I should do ? He says I have the prerogative to call the office and complain, I tell him well if you want me to call the office and he says NO NO NO NO NO I didn't tell you to call anywhere, I told you you have "the prerogative" to call them. At this point I'm done with these people so I start talking to my wife about leaving and getting a refund, the guy says no that he's calling someone. So this lady comes, she figures this campsite is a mess and tells us to choose any site from J to N. We go there and it's like 20 min trying to find the least bad one cause they all had some problem. The 2 guys are there waiting for us so they can get us a table and fire ring since again this is completely disorganized. We put up the tent even though there wasn't a tent ready place I mean this ground was part sandy, part hard and full of little rocks so when you walked in the tent it hurt your feet, forget about kneeling, if you tripped on a tent wire that would be a horrible fall into little rocks. So it was a very bad start and there's other things we didn't like, these camp sites were way on the other side so now the bathroom was too far away. We didn't find a playground for our son. There was a bike area in a loop road but it was just one section of the place, the rest of the roads didn't have a bike section and many roads were just dirt roads. On top of that all day you hear the noise (screaming) from the park and at night we heard like 4 trains that made the whole tent rumble horribly. The WiFi is 1.3 Mbps, when you have 105 Mbps at home then 1.3 is rough. If they charged $20 a night this would be almost bearable, I was expecting a high end campground, wow was I wrong. Yo could try the cabins but those are like $200+ a night and the other reviews say they're tiny. If you're in the area go to Pocahontas or Fredericksburg KOA read more

Camp Wilderness is a AMAZING. I was so impressed a the little house that could essentially house 8 people. I am so happy that Kings Dominion has something of this sort around. I took my sister, boyfriend and his brother with me on a 2 night 3 day trip and boy. Was it worth it. This house is right next to Kings Dominion with a free shuttle that works every 30 minutes to and from the park. The shuttle drops you righttttt in front of the gate which is so convenient. We bought two day passes since we were right next door and that was fabulous to be able to do. if you get a stamp leaving the park, they will allow you to come back on the same day. So we were able to go back to the cabin, take a nap and come back! We were also able to go around other to farms and gardens that the area offered and it was nice to come back to a place to rest. The only thing I would say about the cabin is that it doesn't have a stove/oven/griddle thing for indoor cooking. However, they make up for it with the grill right outside the cabin. I really enjoyed this cabin. It was affordable for how long we stayed and quite frankly I will be back to use them. It was worth it and I can't wait to take people with me. read more

Great campground. dont go for a back woods experience cause thats not what this campground is made for. only complaints are that the lights in the bathroom will shut off randomly if you take a long time and it gets noisy as you can see and hear the park and the rollercoaster rumbles. The staff also did not know much info if you had a question as we asked 2 different people a question and got two different answers. The campground is great if you have kids and the sites are big though. The campground has a store and a pool along with a few sports courts such as volley ball also has a nice common room with furniture if it gets to hot. read more

My girlfriend had visited this campground with her family a lot as a kid so we planned a last minute trip to tent camp and visit the park. The recent renovation seems to have done wonders for the campground. We had a tent site along the right hand side of the campground. When we arrived, there was someone booked into the site we were assigned and upon returning to the front desk were given another site which worked out great. Staff was very friendly. This is not a backwoods camping experience, there is some noise between the proximity of other people and the occasional (maybe twice a day) train that passes by. It was also very quiet at times and I enjoyed sitting in my chair in the late afternoon sun enjoying the fall weather. We live in a downtown area so noise is not a huge issue to us. The shuttle to the park came swiftly. We wanted a place to camp that was easy, clean and right near the park. This is a great place for families and couples alike. read more
