We were quoted for a new roof on our home in April 2025 and work began soon after. The workers had total disregard for our property. They stomped across our front garden, left their empty cans in our children's sandbox, and left nails just all over. They also smashed and snapped a huge limb off of our lilac bush (I watched them do this carelessly). They left extra pieces of roofing on the roof that blew off into the yard as well as a significant amount of nails on top of the roof of our porch. I understand the work can be messy, but this seemed outrageous. I was picking nails off our driveway for months afterward. The real issues started this winter. We live in Colden, NY and are used to harsh winters with an old roof. However, you'd think after almost $30k for a brand new roof you wouldn't have to worry about leaking/ insane ice issues on it. We have had leaking in the past that we were told would be remedied with the new roof. Instead, the leaking has been significantly worse this year causing more damage through our walls and ceilings. The first time they sent a repairman out to address the issue I was not asked if we were home or if they could come on the property. They called and told me (again, not asked) they'd be at our house in 20 minutes. While I appreciate the quick response, I am a SAHM with two littles and really did not feel comfortable receiving a call that someone would be coming into my home while I was home by myself. In addition to this, they gave the repairman the wrong address and he ended up stuck in my neighbor's driveway which was completely torn up when they pulled him out. The repairman did nothing but take photos of the house and shrug. He told me he couldn't do anything because the amount of ice on the roof would further damage it. The second time this happened, he took a ladder up to look at the issue and told us it was because of the siding. Our siding is old, however we are not convinced the siding is the issue. He found more pieces of roof that'd blown off in our yard and told us he was going to leave to reshape them and come back later that day to reattach them. He never came back, and we never heard from anyone again.

Edit: After calling Modern, Jessie the tech guy, came back out and made some repairs to the strike…read moreplates and adjusted the door so that it closes without a noticeable gap. The strike plates were given longer screws that made the deadbolt a bit more secure, but I addressed that the door lining/casing needs replaced from the amount of wood removed from behind the deadbolt. Jessie took pictures and said he will show them to his boss. The clicking noise at the door jamb was finally addressed by the tech to discover that there is a broken spring in the door jamb and the entire door jamb will need to be replaced. Again, I was told a piece will need to be ordered and customer service will be in contact. Jessie wrote on the order form about the door jamb, but only said regarding the lining/casing, he will show the pictures to his boss and talk to him about it. I purchased two doors (front and rear entry doors) in the Spring of 2021. We paid $4,260. We were told the doors have free lifetime service and that the company is accredited with the BBB. Sounded great! They were installed in August of 2021 and I've had nothing but issues since. First, I noticed that there was a 1/4" gap at the bottom of the doors. When I called customer service, it took nearly a week for the techs to come out to simply remove a piece from the door jamb that protects it in shipping. Next, we noticed the front door had a slight gap at the top. Call to customer service, another two weeks goes by before the techs come out to place a couple of silicone pieces around where light is peaking through and they move the strike plates so the door closes tighter. Third call to customer service, the silicon draft stopper at the bottom of the door has completely ripped off. Techs come two weeks later with the wrong size silicon draft stopper and later the customer service says it'll be another two weeks to order the proper size part. Meanwhile we have to slam the door shut to secure it and the bottom door jamb has a weird clicking noise. Finally today they were here to install the proper sized draft stopper and we discussed slamming the door. They moved the strike plates back to the original screw holes and blamed the gap at the top for being that the insulation is too short for our door, and a guy named Chris that can properly assess the situation and place a thicker piece of insulation in the doorway will call. They also removed wood behind my deadbolt strike plate when they repositioned it. Now one of the screws is only 1/2" into the wood and not secure at all. I'm LIVID! I called customer service and told them, "I need someone to come out that knows what the f**k they are doing!" And the answer I got, the guy I need, Chris, isn't in till next Tuesday. There's been four different techs that have come out, and I swear they don't communicate with one another AT ALL! I've been delaying making this review because I really hoped they would make it right. Instead I get shabby service, extended wait times and excuses after excuses. My mail carrier left a package at a different door, because he said there was a dog running around while they were on the roof. I don't even have a dog... The final cost was over 2x the estimate they gave me too! Update: I later received an email asking if I had any comments/concerns/suggestions. I restated everything I said in this review. Like yeah, it would be nice if it was done well... I got no response at all, and there was never an attempt to come fix the obvious color/shape difference of the shingles ‍. I received a text asking how they did too, and I said the same things then. Again no response. Why repeatedly ask people how you did, when you don't care?? When I have to have my roof fully replaced, I'm obviously going to just choose a different company.

We hired them to replace our soffit, fascia, and gutters…read more The person who quoted the job only included material and labor for about half the work to be completed. After several change orders and numerous calls on my part to get the correct materials to complete the job, the total cost of the project was almost double what was originally quoted. Now less than a year after the work was completed, there are several spots where the soffits are falling away from the fascia and they are not willing to send someone to fix their work. We have had several home renovation projects recently and have hired several different contractors. Patriot has been by far the worst we have dealt with. They ended up being our most expensive option after all the change orders, they had poor communication, poor planning, and we received little to no resolution once their quoting error was discovered. To top it off, now that their work is failing, they are not sending anyone to fix it and make it right. My lessons learned from this experience: Get multiple quotes and take one of the middle options. Hire a contractor that has their own workers, no subcontractors. You might pay a little more for the work to be done, but it will be done right.

First issue with them was the time it took them to complete the job. A maybe two-week job took more than 6 months! They use and rely mainly on sub-contractors. Next issue: About 40% of the drywall that was supposed to be replaced as per contract was not done. Of the 4 rooms and 3 closets to be drywalled as per contract, 2 rooms and 0 closets were actually done. We agreed to eliminate the amount that I overspent on flooring by not drywalling 2 closets. Then Dan said that "the 3rd closet won't be drywalled because the inside of the front door was painted". Yes, he actually said that! The foyer and the bathroom were not drywalled although the contract specified drywalling those areas. Next issue: Door moldings. The contract called for new moldings but all the old ones were put back on - all 210 board feet. They said caulking the old nail holes costs as much as new molding. Give me a break!! Before they put the old molding back on, I sorted out and took all the old nails out. I might add that I painted all the baseboard heat vents and covers in all 4 rooms myself - ca. 56 feet. Then Dan and Jeremy called and said they will pay me an additional ca. $150.00. I NEVER SAW IT. I feel they owe me the $150.00 plus a fair reimbursement for the work not done per the contract (drywall 2 rooms and new door moldings). Also, there was no final walk-through or inspection and no final paperwork! I don't bother calling them anymore because they won't call back. Dave R.
