The shingles they put on my roof don't even match the rest. When they said I'd pay for materials, I assumed they meant matching materials?? They also left garbage on my lawn, and apparently brought a dog with them? My mail carrier left a package at a different door, because he said there was a dog running around while they were on the roof. I don't even have a dog... The final cost was over 2x the estimate they gave me too! Update: I later received an email asking if I had any comments/concerns/suggestions. I restated everything I said in this review. Like yeah, it would be nice if it was done well... I got no response at all, and there was never an attempt to come fix the obvious color/shape difference of the shingles ‍. I received a text asking how they did too, and I said the same things then. Again no response. Why repeatedly ask people how you did, when you don't care?? When I have to have my roof fully replaced, I'm obviously going to just choose a different company. read more

Deal with this company at your own risk. Last fall I hired them to fix two issues. One issue was to repair the soffit along my roof and the other was to repair a leak over my side door. They came out and supposedly did all repairs and I was sent a total invoice. With the first rain, I saw that the moulding over the side porch door was still leaking. I called them and I was told BY THEM not to pay the invoice now and they would send someone back out to complete the agreed to repairs. They never did come back and I received no contact..now six months later, I receive an "overdue" invoice that they say they are sending to collections. I called them back and told them I am sending a check for the repair of the soffit they was properly repaired but have found their service to be atrocious and would never do business with them again... If I were you, I would think twice!!!! read more

BUYER BEWARE. This is NOT the company you may think they are. My experience with Highland Contractors was so bad that Rochester's E-Magazine (Contractors Edition) is doing a 2 page spread about it. I wish google reviews and yelp allowed more room for reviews so I can share them in both but there is not enough room. The short version is this, the company gives the most ridiculous and cheesy sales pitches, over-promises and under-delivers like no other business I have experienced. They severely damage my property, left an absolute mess, shorted me on the money they owed me, and LIED to my insurance company so I got less from my claim. Highland Contractors is an embarrassment of a company and after finding out that they use software to pad their google reviews, I find them even more pathetic. The owner of the company does not care about anything other than overcharging good people by telling them how much better they are than other businesses, degrading other businesses, telling them what you want to hear, making sure they get your money, then treating you and your property like pieces of garbage. Yesterday (12/28) I had a second job done by highland to replace a roof vent and some damaged wood. The roofer was awesome and very clean. Highly recommended! I forgot the roofers name but he was A+. Job was in the 19th Ward. Please tell him thanks and I appreciate the great job! read more

I hired Highland to install a fence but this work was sub-contracted. There was a lack of communication and the subcontractor didn't show up one of the days and didn't give me a heads up of it. The fence is fine, but I'd give their customer follow through sub par. read more

Phil and Highland Contractors did a rubber roof on my 9 car garage a couple years ago, with careful attention to details around the peaks, trim pieces, seams, and front facet with architectural shingles. I get compliments on a job well done from my friends and neighbors. Today, they just finished my main roof on my multi-family house on Park Ave between Meigs and Alexander - truly designing a solution end-to-end for my 100 year old house that had poor attic venting and ice build-up. Anyway, they did it again, perfect work, well executed. In short, they are a GOOD VALUE... do not go to them if you are looking for a cheap short-term fix...they do it right the first time - so it lasts a long time... For that, I don't mind paying - highland contractors is my source! read more

After the snow had already started this year, we needed to get part of our roof replaced. Wahhhh-wuuuuhhhhh. Highland Contractors was a tad-bit pricier than a second quote we got, but we had a better feeling about working with them, so we contracted them. Communication was a tad spotty leading up to the repairs and we had to wait a tiny bit longer than we expected ... then their was their delivery of our tarp to the wrong address .... which is why 4 starts versus 5. But the quality of their repair work seems to be very high, and their warranty has been reassuring and has put our minds at rest. Within a few years, we will need to get the rest of our roof replaced, and we will very likely use Highland Contractors again. read more

BUYER BEWARE!!!! Poor quality workmanship on roof job. Tried to repair their mistakes on more than one occasion, but it still looks terrible. Broke our weather vane, cut a deep groove all the way around our stone chimney over half way up the chimney and planned to cover it with flashing, now we have a line around our chimney with caulk plugging their shoddy work. Hung the ice and water shield over the fascia at several different lengths and even let it hang into the gutters which glued itself to the gutters, so when the gutters were removed, much of the drip edge got bent and rippled. No way to repaint the fascia if we had wanted to with the ice and water hanging down the front of it from 1/4" to about 2 1/2", all staggered! Contacted them on multiple occasions, owner came out once and was appalled at the workmanship, made one guy come out and redo some of it, sent two guys out another time to try to fix other stuff, but it still looks terrible. Then he has the nerve to not like it when I post negatively about his company, even after I sent him pics, sent him texts, talked with him on the phone and asked him to come back out and take a look, AND let him know that I would be posting negatively!! He feels it's just my opinion of the quality of the work.....well, yeah, and it's my/our opinion that should matter....we paid the bill!!! It's called service after the sale/installation!! You fired a bunch of your crew...I'm pretty sure that didn't happen because of the screw-ups just on our roof!!! There had to have been multiple mistakes on more than one job for you to have to let people go during your busy season, so that right there tells you that work was not being done very well!! read more

Poor customer service. I had Chris come out to give an estimate on a job and then I received it via email. I called him twice and left voicemails with no callback. I never heard back when I emailed either. I wouldn't recommend this company if this is how it is from the start. read more

Really wanted to be able to give a better review. Originally had Hank come out March 5 to give me an estimate on finishing a siding job started by another contractor. From the beginning the communication was poor but people get sick and things happen. Called Hank after the wind tore some shingles off the roof and he had someone out within a few days to fix it. (Very pleased with the roof repair!) Then the siding job got lost again and the communication stopped. On April 28 Hank came out and finalized the siding choices and was supposed to get everything ordered, and we were supposed to already be on the schedule and the job would be done within the next 3 weeks. Called and spoke to Jacqueline on May 31 because I heard nothing from Hank or Gabe. When she finally found the job she said there was a delay and something was on backorder so the job would be pushed back to the end of June. Called again on June 15 and was told the job was pushed back again to mid July because other jobs were delayed and they had to finish those first. That's when I told Jacqueline to cancel the job and to pass along I would not be considering Highland for another job I was hoping to have done next year, remodeling the attic and adding a bathroom. Extremely disappointed with the lack of communication and changing stories, especially because I specifically explained at the beginning of the process why we were not continuing with the contractor that had originally started the project and I was assured this would be a much smoother process with no surprises. read more

Highland Contractors and owner Phil Leger are wonderful. We first had them do a new roof on our one car garage, and it turned out great. New roof in place in one day, and the place looked like it had the day before when they got done! We then moved on to have them do the real job. Our two story steep roofed double house with more angles than we wish it had! The job looks great, our attic is finally insulated, and we could not be happier! I knew we had picked the right contractors when problems were discovered with one of the chimneys. Instead of asking for more money and replacing the weak chimney, they fixed it, and we now have a great roof, a good looking stable chimney, and with the exception of a $200 cap for the chimney, the budget was exactly as quoted! One other note.... the gang working on the roof was a great group. All were very friendly, answered questions, and left our yard very clean each night of the project! On day one when I visited in the early afternoon, there was roof removal debris about 4 feet deep around our main entrance and along the sidewalk back to that door. When we came home around 6 PM, the debris was all gone, and the sidewalk/patio area was cleaner than we often keep it! We walked into our home that night confident that we had chosen well, and we still feel that way two weeks later! Having a gang of about 15 guys tear off the top of your home is pretty scary! Looking through your roof to see sky on the other side with guys climbing around with ropes, hammers, pry bars, and plywood is downright unnerving, but these folks make a difficult time go smoothly and confidently. read more
