In November 2021, Dr. Tran determined my husband needed a crown to cover a root canal (reason we schedule the appt) and 2 fillings. Dr. Tran said that he needed a cleaning first. Fine. 2. In January 2022, he had the cleaning. He was told he had to wait weeks before doing the work. Fine. 3. Today, February 2022, he shows up only to find out they were going to the fillings. Fine. 4. Dr. Tran CHANGES her mind to not do the fillings and to do the crown because she doesn't want us to pay more. Not fine. 5. We find out that they didn't authorize insurance approval for the crown, even though we were told he was approved for all of it in January. 6. Now we're going to have to wait weeks for approval for the crown. Dr. Tran, you should not be worrying how much we are going to pay. Let patients worry about that. The concern and priority should be about the teeth! We've doing the song and dance since it's November. How can you feel good about putting a patient through this? And how can you tell the front desk to only put the approvals through for the 2 fillings and not the crown? That does not make sense when the reason we scheduled the appt back in November was for the crown. I guess if you need routine care like teeth cleaning, then this practice is okay. If you need specialized work, then seek other practices who are more competent. Not just nice.

Specifically, it would be helpful if this office were more thorough in their guidance of what to do after. We were given a syringe and just told to use it to clean the space out. They didn't say when, how to do it, etc. The little pamphlet with guidance on what one can eat and when was vague too. Other oral surgeon locations have a more specific day 1-3 regime. The one we got made it seem some more solid were OK almost right away, though we didn't do that. The family member with the extraction ended up with an infection and they just prescribed meds over the phone and didn't want to have them come in. With our medical doc, they want to see before prescribing antibiotics so that felt a little off but maybe that is normal for other offices. The infection came back again so eventually the family member was seen and they had to reopen and clean out and do another round of medication. It feels maybe the 3rd visit could have been avoided if they saw and cleaned out the area the first time we called about an infection.

The front desk staff and dental hygienists are all incredibly friendly and professional, and I've especially appreciated how easy it is to keep my insurance updated with them and the clear communication they've had about billing. Dr. Afkham does the work himself! He does the cleanings and pays close attention to what he finds. A couple of appointments ago, he found a cavity (my first ever--I was really nervous about it!) and explained the cost of treating it right there and had me treated and out in half an hour. He is incredibly calm and competent, which makes getting dental care much less intimidating than it would be otherwise. Dr. Afkham is the dentist I recommend to all of my friends!

So, HE ASSAULTED ME AND THEN CHEATED TO THE POLICE. I visited the clinic for an exam regarding wisdom tooth extraction March 27th. Based on prior communication, I was under the impression that the visit was a preparatory step for the extraction. However, I was informed during the visit that the extraction could not be performed there and was referred elsewhere. A misunderstanding arose from the clinic's initial communication, which I believed to be misleading. Upon addressing this with the front desk, a disagreement ensued. Dr. Afham intervened, and the situation escalated. Dr. Afham forcefully instructed me to leave, resulting in him physically grabbing my arm and pushing me all the way out of the office, causing my phone to fall and further adding to my distress. I immediately contacted the police to report the incident. However, Dr. Afham provided a conflicting account, stating he merely "opened the door" for me, which led to the police being unable to take further action. This experience was not only humiliating but raised serious concerns about the professional conduct at Davis Smile Center. It is particularly disheartening given my history as a loyal patient over the past three years. I am considering filing grievances with relevant professional and regulatory bodies, including the Delta Dental Program, the Dental Board of California, and the Better Business Bureau, to seek redress and ensure such conduct is appropriately addressed. Outstanding experience with Dr. Du and his office staff. I had to have tooth #12 extracted and…read morebone grafted. I had put it off for a little over a year and finally resigned to having it pulled and grafted for an implant. When I finally decided to have it pulled, I scheduled it out later in the year in order to get the most benefit from my insurance. I did have some out of pocket expense, and in the 8 or so months before the procedure, I had called Dr. Du's office to get some clarify on what monies would be due and when. The two or three times I talked to his staff, they were incredibly helpful and walked me through the process and timing with patience and clarity. A few days before the extraction, Dr Du's office called in scripts for relaxation during the procedure, pain post op and to stave off any infection. The scripts arrived a few days before my procedure so I would be ready to go on extraction day. I was completely blown away at how quick and easy Dr Du extracted the tooth, and I felt absolutely NOTHING during the procedure, and post op. I followed their directions and recommendations to keep the any swelling down and to keep from getting an infection and had zero issues. No pain or swelling whatsoever. I am now a little over a month post op and just waiting for the bone graft to do its thing to have the implant installed next year. I very highly recommend Dr. Du. He and his staff are top notch! You will be in good hands!

We are seniors…read moreand our teeth aren't what they were years ago when we were younger, but Dr. Nick has never recommended doing anything that didn't really need to be done, like fix a broken tooth or fill a cavity. Our children who have jobs elsewhere occasionally complain that their dentists recommend doing expensive procedures that are probably not necessary, but that's not Dr. Nick. I should have taken some pictures of his offices. Each treatment room has been decorated in a different theme by a very good artist with the walls and ceilings having been hand painted with very interesting and creative characters and other things. There is an athletic room with symbols of many sports. Another room has pictures of game animals. Disney characters is the subject of another. These murals give you something to look at during your checkup or procedure. We've been to a lot of dentists over the years, having outlived a few of them. Dr. Nick is one of the best we've been to. And his staff is always very courteous and helpful, too. Now if only I could find an personal physician like Dr. Nick.
