My wife and I wanted to do something different while we were visiting Kingston so we decided on their sunset dinner cruise that we initially found on TripAdvisor. Boarding started at 6 PM with a underway time of 6:30 PM. The Ship was probably about 30% full. We paid extra for window seating. It seemed that everybody but two small parties did that as well. The center was open except for those two parties. We were whisked on board without issue and seated in the forward third of the ship. There was a lovely appetizer already set out for us. Our server for the most part was a young lady named Kat. Dan, was narrating the voyage and playing guitar. He was actually quite good! We ordered underway cocktails and a bottle of wine for our three hour tour. Our cocktails were well crafted and delicious! After our underway, the meal was served banquet style. Our salad course came out after getting underway. The salad was very tasty though very light on the dressing. I would almost say it wasn't dressed, but was still tasty nonetheless. For our main courses, I ordered the braised short rib while my wife ordered their chicken supreme. There was also a salmon and vegetarian dish available. When the main courses were served, I was truly surprised and delighted. My braised short rib was absolutely delicious! My wife enjoyed her chicken supreme as well. Another thing we truly enjoyed during the course of the Cruise was the narration by Doug! He did a great job pointing out sites and giving delightful stories along the way. My wife decided to upgrade the dessert to their caramel carrot cheesecake while I stuck with the European cheesecake. Not sure what made it European, it tasted like any other cheesecake to me. The last half of the cruise was mostly music from Doug and some taped music as well. We pulled in near precisely three hours after we left. It was a terrific evening and well worth the dollars spent! I booked this cruise for my birthday trip to Kingston. One of the best activities I did while there. I've done many steamship boat cruises in New Orleans, but this one went for double the time. Definitely more value and the area was just gorgeous. This was my first trip to Kingston, and I didn't even realize the city was on the water. This cruise was such a great way to see the surrounding islands and wildlife, along with the beautiful houses of the other half and cute vacation cottages. People in Canada are so friendly too. Everyone outside on their porches waved, along with those in craft in the water. There were geese and I saw a mama swan with babies too. The day I went the sun was super strong! I had put on sunscreen but definitely recommend bringing more along. I got a nasty burn on the bridge of my nose and across my forehead and cheeks. And I didn't bring my sunglasses, also a big mistake! There was limited seating up on the top deck, but being a single I was able to scootch into the back corner on the flat part at the back of the boat. Met some nice people too. The narrator, I believe her name was Diane, came up to sit and talked with everyone for a while. She was super nice. All the staff were. One thing I didn't like was that the middle deck bar served only people eating in the dining room, and I wasn't. This meant on my way up, I had to choose between a beverage and getting a seat. I knew I wouldn't get one if I had to go all the way back to the bottom, so I didn't get a marg until well into the cruise when I had a couple to save my seat. It was very hot on the trip out, but once you get in the vicinity of the islands, there was a nice breeze. I know there was music and the tour information. If you do sit on the top deck, at least where I was, you can't hear any of that, so it's your preference which is more important. But overall, just a peaceful day with beautiful views. 3 hours is perfect for a boat cruise! When I visit again, I will definitely go out with them again. Highly recommend! read more

If there's a must-do in Kingston, it's taking a boat cruise on Lake Ontario & St. Lawrence River and seeing the Thousand Islands...and I'm guessing there's no better way than taking 1000 Islands. Aboard the Island Belle, we took the 90-minute Discovery Cruise: You'll see war and shipwreck sites, the Royal Military College, Kingston Penitentiary, Fort Henry, and, of course, hundreds of the lush, forested, and flat-out gorgeous Thousand Islands. And, if you've never seen a whole bunch of energy-harnessing windmills, a breezy day makes for quite the sight to see. There is an audio narration between a modern lady and one of the Scottish settlers that plays throughout the trip. It's informative and unintentionally hilarious at times. The downstairs is great for those not wanting to brave the elements. Warm, nice tables, snack, sodas, and a full bar. The best part is the BEAUTIFUL views, the best vantage point is outside and in front ... this is the best way to get the most out of your trip. All aboard! read more

Great venue for our impromptu family gathering. Waitress was not the quickest but once the food and drinks began to flow everything ended up great. The MC was also great and kept us j in formed and entertained as we made our way through the islands. Captain also had a great singing voice. read more

Took the 3 hours brunch cruise today. My parents had fun so I'm satisfied. I like the brunch myself, especially the croissant, one of the best I've had. And it's sufficient sized, skip the breakfast if your appetite is on the light side like me. The crew is quite friendly. The tour itself is alright. Top 10 destination in Ontario though? (claimed by Ontario official tourism website) If I didn't took the brunch and stayed on first deck I may get disappointed. I heard if you start at Gananoque you'll see a castle and some lighthouse in addition. Still doesn't sound that impressive. Maybe a real estate buyer would consider this a grand tour? read more

We wanted to visit the 1000 Islands yet we didn't have much time plus it was already late in the afternoon. That's when we saw the dock for the cruise ships and inquired about the options. For the time of the day that it was we took the Island Star Sunset Dinner Cruise. The boat has a clear top so you have full view of the outside from all angles including the ceiling. As soon as you depart you see several historic sites. Then the landscape becomes more natural as you get into the 1000 Islands. As times goes by you go from day to night and we were lucky with a stunning sunset. There is a musician on board who also serves as the tour guide. He is funny and informative. He plays a variety of music with a good singing voice and the ability to impersonate many musicians. The crowd was a happy one yet no drunks, and lots of dancing happening. There is a cash bar onboard. With the price of the ticket there is a three course meal included, that is cooked to order. The three courses were well made and tasty. Coffee and tea are included in the price of the meal. Good value for all you get!!! read more

We boarded the "Island Belle I" junket for a 5:00 PM Cruise - this was something we had looked forward to since purchasing the tickets a few hours before the cruise set sail. I understand a ninety minute cruise for two for just under $60 with a $10 coupon isn't exactly going to be first class accommodations but this worn out gal with décor from the redneck yacht club was a little more than I could bear for the scheduled 90 minutes - once we found two lawn chair seats on the top open deck under a cheap version of a sun-setter awning that was dripping condensate from the air conditioner cooling the captain's bridge I knew things were going to get interesting fast. The "ship" delayed its departure as a few last minute tourists scurried to board after the official start-time so they could participate in what now had become a standing room only cruise up and down a section of the St. Lawerence Seaway that was void of anything of notable historic value. Once this glorified barge shoved off its mooring the eight track tape audible tour began, this was the last live interaction by the crew since they scooped the bounty from our wallets. We unfortunately chose the wrong side of the boat so we saw only water for the next ninety minutes - I made several futile attempts to nap my way through the boring monologue from the cast of characters that read an outdated script, while a number of unleashed children ran screaming and crying for more of the stale popcorn sold at the on board concession making sleeping impossible. I have a passion for history but I hadn't planned on being part of a reenactment that inflicted more pain than the actual battles on the shores of this mighty river. The entertainment value here is zero - Bogart and Hepburn had more fun on the African Queen, but this is only my $60 opinion... read more

I went to the three hours sunset cruise. The view was beautiful but disappointing because there weren't much to see and it looks like any views you can see anywhere. The best part of the trip is we past over from the Canadian side to the US part of the trip and back to the Canadian side. The cruise itself is a wonderful experience. You get a three courses meal along with a live musician on board. The weather is really nice and the sunset is beautiful. We had an appetizer which is a salad mix with almond, strawberry and tomatoes. The main course I had, I took the steak with potatoes, broccolis and carrots. My boyfriend took the salmon, potatoes and veggies. Dessert is a piece of chocolate cake with wipe cream on the side. The entertainer was very funny and he sings many songs ranging from Elvis Presley, Bob Marley and Bruno Mars. All this distractions, i missed the Bolt castle on our tour. I give the cruise and the view together a four stars. I left out one star because I was disappointed at the view, i was expecting to see more than a few islands. Note: if you buy the 3h cruise, the 3 courses meal are included with the price of the cruise. Tea and coffee are included. If you deviate from the menu selection, you pay extra. read more

Went on a cruise with family today. Not that much to see really. Got really cold and windy during the middle of the cruise, better to take a windbreaker or jacket, or you could just stay inside on the lower deck. Does a tiny tour of the lake and islands. Maybe the longer tours are better. read more

Not worth the money. The food is sub-par and there is a very loud banjo-ist that is a reasonable but hard to take at high volume during the entirely of the trip to be interrupted only by a recording of a overly done Scottish accented tour guide. If this is the only boat you can get on, do yourself a favor and eat a heavy brunch and get on the top deck. The islands are worth seeing but this boat ride and the cost of it both are a high price to pay. read more

Don't take the food cruise. The discovery one is just long enough that you don't get fed up. There is a bar and cantina food service on board. No luxury, but still a pleasant time for the money. read more

A very enjoyable boat ride that tours a small section of the 1000 Islands. A guide will explain the history of the homes and the Islands on the ride. I was surprised to see lilttle homes on little Islands. I recommend it for those who want a taste of what makes Ontario special. read more

On Sunday August 19 our party of five female family members, age 17 to 70, took the 2 pm three hour Kingston Heart of the Islands cruise on the Island Queen. We were towards the end of a long line waiting to board, and upon boarding were unable to find any seats with a view, or even five seats close together. Several busloads of foreign tourists pushed us out of the way at every turn and commandeered seats they weren't using and didn't use. They spoke loudly nonstop so as to prevent us listening to the audio guided tour. The final straw was when one of the men in their group apparently became inebriated and soiled himself badly, about halfway through the cruise. He managed to travel to all three levels of the ship, nauseating everyone aboard with an overpowering stench. The men's washroom was then closed for the remainder of the trip. I realize some of these things are beyond the cruise line's control, but at a minimum crowd control should be used on a sold out tour to guarantee everyone a satisfactory seat. My only complaint was the seating on the lower level of the boat was a little haphazard, and it was impossible to hear the automated tour guide on the boat. We went for the 90 minutes cruise which was full of insects and mosquitos, we couldn't enjoy the view at all and all our cloths were full of dead insects. The cruise crew were not friendly at all. I wanted to bring a drink, but they didn't let me bring in. The cruise had a small food shop with a very limited food/drink options such as rotten slices of pizza.
