OMG! this was positively delightful! This was a pre-wedding activity and there was nothing that could have made it more outstanding. A lovely meal was provided with equally lovely staff. Great day on the river with Capt Matt and Liam our guide. Capt Matt was able to take us by a few extra spots and Liam was both knowledgeable and a good storyteller to keep our interests up. The stopover at Boldt Castle was perfect and the lighthouse stop was very interesting. We got the picnic lunch which was good and the boat was clean and comfortable. Wonderful way to see the river and Boldt Castle. We were on "Island Girl" for our tour. I cannot recall the skipper, nor the tour guide, but both were excellent, and very personable. The boats allow for a more intimate river experience. I would highly recommend these fine folks. read more

We took the 5.5-hour tour on June 20th, 2024. Dennis, the guide, and Gary, the Captain, were friendly, gracious, knowledgeable, and informative. The boat had adequate seating, our lunches that were part of our package, were well prepared Ns very good. We had a chicken wrap. and a ham & cheese wrap. A drink and potato chips were furnished with our picnic lunch. If one were to get thirsty after the supplied drink was consumed, there was a limited bar serving soda, beer, and a few choices of mixed drinks. Dennis, the tour guide was the bar tender. The tour included viewing several islands with a discussion of the various homes and buildings on them. The star attraction was Boldt Castle We were given 1.5-hrs to tour the Castle, and it was amazing. The other disembarkment was at a historic lighthouse, which tourists could climb the 256 steps for a grand view of the St. Lawrence River. The captain and guide with the Clayton Island Boat tours was fantastic! We went on the tour in Sept 2025 and it was a glorious day. We were given lots of information about the 1000+ islands and the homes built on them. The only downside, and this is not the fault of the boat tour, is that if you do not pay the $13.50 per adult admission for the Boldt Castle, you have to sit on the dock for 90 minutes until your boat leaves. We had no interest in the castle but planned on walking around the grounds as that is what our campground hostess had done in previous years. That put a sour taste in my mind about touring the castle and upon seeing the empty rooms we now know why they are requiring an entrance fee to get off the dock. read more

We had a great time on the Rock Island Lighthouse tour. Both the captain and the tour guide were wonderful! There were many interesting stories, as well as interaction with the guests. Questions were welcomed. Rock Island was really fun! The guide there was excellent- both interesting and funny. We wondered why the stop was going to be an hour long, but it was perfect. Climbing the lighthouse was the highlight for us. We would highly recommend. Definitely worth the money! read more

Tour was ok. You definitely see a lot and is informative, but the glass bottom part was not worth it. You don't see any fish or much of anything. We had a 10:30 tour but got a text at 9 am that it was cancelled and could we do the 1:30 tour. So we had to hang around for over 3 hours because we already got there early to walk around the town. Just wish we had found out before we drove up there. Got to give people more notice. And at least a complementary water or snack for the inconvenience read more

We booked a tour twice - and both times they got cancelled. Our money was refunded. Very disappointed since you make plans/arrangements then the company cancels the tour. Once I could understand - but the second time was it. Will never use that company again - undependable. read more

My husband and I took the glass bottom boat tour 09/12/2025 and anyone visiting the Thousand Islands wouldn't want to miss. Captain Jack and tour guide Matt were so welcoming and fun. Learning about the history of trade along the St. Lawrence Seaway and Canada, the lighthouse and much more there's also a little treasure hunt for children when exciting off the boat to visit the gift shop and lighthouse. read more

Wasn't sure what to expect from a 5 hour tour, but it was a fun and lively day! We arrived at 11am, boarded at 11:20 and departed at 11:30. Our tour guide (MIke) was well seasoned with factoids, trivia and humor. He kept us informed and entertained, while the captain manuevered around the variety of other boats on the river. We got to visit Boldt Castle on Heart Island for 90 minutes, and the Rock Island Lighthouse for 60 minutes. The rest of the trip was smooth sailing. We arrived back at the dock at 5pm. The bag lunch was also great. We had the ham & swiss wrap, and the roast beef sandwich. Both came with cole slaw, chips, cookies and a beverage. At the end of the tour we ordered a few alcoholic beverages on board. Ask Mike to make a Captain Morgan, cranberry & lime cocktail. It is amazing. read more

Captain Skip and travel guide Bob- (sorry not good with names so not positive) were wonderful! Very knowledgeable and gave a strong sense of safety. The tour was great. My husband and I had enough time to listen to the audio tour and take our time enjoying the castle in it's entirety. However, we would have loved more time so we could have seen the children's play tower and the power house. The lighthouse was great but could maybe be 15 minutes shorter. Beautiful day for a two nation tour. Very informative and interesting. Michelle, our tour guide was very knowledgeable and interesting to listen to. I have lived in the area for 50 years and found out a few things I didn't even know about the islands. Our 75 minute stop at Boldt Castle, included in the trip at a separate fee, was plenty of time to check out the castle and exquisitely beautiful grounds. We arrived back at the tour dock right on time. Captain Mark was an excellent boat handler maneuvering us about. I have taken several tours over the past 15 years and Clayton Island Tours do a very good job at a very reasonable price-you won't be disappointed. read more

Had a great Ultimate 1000 Islands Sightseeing Tour. Brad was a wonderful tour guide and Chuck was a great ship captain. After an informative boat ride we arrived at Boldt Castle and had a delicious picnic lunch (provided by tour). Then we toured the castle and grounds before heading back to the boat for a ride to the Rock Island lighthouse. It was fun to climb to the top of the lighthouse and learn about the history of the lighthouse and it's keepers. Definitely recommend this tour. read more

We enjoyed an excellent tour driven by Captain Jack and narrated by Michele. Michele was extremely knowledgeable about the area and was able to share quite a few personal stories. The boat was comfortable, even for me while using a knee scooter. All employees were able to guide us on best access to Boldt Castle given my accessibility needs. We took the sunset cruise. Although the SLR never disappoints with its gorgeous views, we were very disappointed with the cruise itself. The Captain had very little to say on the journey and we were hoping to learn more about the beautiful islands that have made the SLR so well known, or at least some history of the waterways we were traveling. We unfortunately had a very small screaming toddler on our cruise that was also a deterrent to what we had hope would be a relaxing and educational evening. I personally don't believe that a sunset cruise is ideal for a small child. the child might have been better served on a cruise earlier in the day when the were better rested. read more

Don't hesitate. Go. My husband and I did the Ultimate St Lawrence tour. It stops at Boldt Castle and a lighthouse and includes a lunch. This company is very well organized. We had a choice on lunch and they made sure they had our order ahead of time. When you arrive at the ticket office, your lunch is ready to grab with your name on the bag. There's also a bar on the boat. The boat is clean and the bathrooms are clean. The tour guide was amazing. He was a native of the area and seemed to know everything. He was a great orator, funny and loaded with interesting tidbits. I especially enjoyed hearing about the homes on millionaire row. The stop at Boldt Castle was about 2 hours I think and they went by fast. We were free to roam around most of it and the grounds. Really cool. Third time taking a tour and we just love the staff. Each time it's been a new tour guide but they have all given great tours. The captain navigated our pontoon smoothly and there really isn't a bad seat on the boat. Boat was updated with cup holders for all. A nice added touch. My wife and I did the 5-hour tour. Boldt Castle and the lighthouse. At both stops, we were able to get out and walk around. The included lunch was just a sandwich, but I think you can bring some snacks with you. I would recommend this. They did have food when you get to Boldt castle. Boldt Castle was amazing and I am glad they are restoring this beautiful home. The lighthouse was interesting. The captain and guide were amusing and knowledgeable. Saw a lot of beautiful homes on the river that made me feel poor...lol Very enjoyable and scenic. The 5 hours went by very quickly. read more

Such a great experience. Took a tour on Labor Day and could not have asked for a better time. Loved the fact that the boat was small and not like many other tour companies large vessels. We had plenty of room and had excellent views. The boat is completely covered so rain would not have been an issue. Conveniently located right off the highway with plenty of parking. They even direct you where to park. We to advantage of the lunch option because our tour was a noon. While there is some food at the Boldt castle, they had run out of many things when we arrived. The sack lunch was actually very good. My wife had the BLT and I had the ham wrap. I would recommend either of these. Bottom line is if you are thinking about it, just do it and book the tour. read more

Excellent trip. Very easy to book online, great parking and easy to board. They have a food truck to grab a snack, breakfast or lunch and you can take it on the boat (no booze allowed.) Captain and mate were knowledgeable and friendly. Your stays at Boldt for 1 1/2 which is enough time to look around if you're not looking to stay super long. The boats are small so your view of the river etc., is excellent and not crowded at all. Definitely worth it! read more
