OK, so i understand that if anything happens to you that requires a hospital trip, you are probably…read morenot going to think, "humm, which one to I want to go to?", but still, I want to give Teddington hospital props because they pretty much saved my life a few years ago. First of all, and importantly, this is NOT an A+E ward. If your injuries are really serious don't go here. This is a walk in centre for minor injuries, burns and illnesses. emergency contraception and x-rays. You don't need an appointment to come here. Which is good for me because a couple of years ago I was going about my daily business, had just had a yummy tuna sandwich for lunch, and all of a sudden had a red rash all over my body. I was taken to Teddington hospital, where there were no queues and seen immediately. The nurse took one look at me and asked if I had eaten tuna for lunch. I said I had and she quickly diagnosed it as eating fish that has botulism which can shut down the major organs of your body within a couple of hours. An hour later, a stint under an oxygen mask and dosed up to the eyeballs with antihistamines I was free to go. Had I not been seen to so quickly, something much worse could have happened, but thanks to the nurse I am sitting here happily with a cup of tea (and no more tuna sandwiches).

This place has become, however, so much more. Since it has become increasingly difficult to get an appointment at local doctor's surgeries, it has become a bit of an emergency surgery - where people go when they have an ailment or injury and are finding it impossible to see their own GP. Especially on weekends, there can be quite a long wait - over 3 hours sometimes. You'll be seen by a triage nurse first, then a 'normal' nurse, and, depending on the injury or ailment, you may well be treated by the nurse, or you may be asked to wait to see a doctor. For the most part, I have found the care there to be friendly yet professional and efficient. I have never visited there for my own problems. but I have taken my daughter there a couple of times, and my husband has also visited a few times - most recently for cellulitus. There is an onsite pharmacy, and a small (very small) and bumpy car park. The building is quite an old and imposing one, and there is a memorial at the front for our war dead. I do hope this hospital survives rounds of NHS cuts. It provides an invaluable service to the local 'walking wounded', thus sparing the two local A&E hospitals (West Middlesex and Kingston) some less serious conditions.

However, having been put off by Queen Alexandra's Hospital in Portsmouth by their lack of physical tour (you have to get by with a substandard YouTube video), and also feedback from others that it was a busy hospital and somewhat akin to a sausage machine (I had one story of someone being in and out in 12 hours - and they didn't necessarily want to be processed so quickly), I decided to opt for Chichester. It was the right choice - indeed quieter, albeit a bit older looking, but still fit for purpose. This maternity ward is very well run, the midwife was very good and I got the epidural that I wanted (needed!) for my third baby. I would definitely recommend this hospital to any nervous mums. Getting the tour and having a chance to ask questions and familiarize oneself with the layout was really helpful in orientating me to the NHS way and allaying any fears/answering questions. My only pick up point was infant security. As I left the hospital the receptionist let me swan out - no outgoing checks, no bracelet checking, no escort to the door, nothing. It made me wonder what the protocol was should there be an attempted baby theft...

If you have or need surgery you go to St. Helier. I have been to both . St Helier is part of the NHS Trust Group with EDH and the consultants are based at Sutton, the nurses and some specialist at Epsom. You get reminders from both of appointments, only one was confusing, I should not have assumed it was St Helier, when it was Epsom. Epsom were quite happy to wait whilst I travelled the distance from one to the other. Since then I have been a out patient and am a little more careful where I go!

Luckily, for me, this is the first time I have needed to visit A & E of this hospital after an…read more'episode'. On arrival by ambulance I was immediately taken to triage and passed through the various departments with total efficiency. I say efficiency but this doesn't lose the fact that there was a lot of joking banter and friendliness with the total professionalism of all the staff. I cannot speak highly enough of all the nurses and doctors in A & E. Thank you guys for making this traumatic experience a lot easier to accept.

999 brought an ambulance with two amazing young medics to our door who spent considerable time over…read moreblood tests and ECG, liaising with central over unusual features, then took me to the hospital, returning once (not too far luckily) because I had left home with my disabled wife's phone. I was quickly allocated a bed and assured I was well away from Covid area. Seen by several nurses and doctors including a CAT scan and allowed to go home after maybe 6 hrs max. Everyone so pleasant, efficient whilst remaining friendly and approachable, explaining all procedures in advance, and appearing to be one happy high efficiency team all working as one.

When my mom fell and broke her hand while we were on vacation, we looked for just a walk-in urgent…read morecare clinic for her to go to, but found that they were inside the hospitals in England. We had a full day + a travel day left in our trip, so wanted to get it take care of as soon as possible. Unfortunately, St. Thomas was unable to help us due to their absolutely extreme and unacceptable wait times. We arrived around 8 PM and waited in an outdoor but tented queue for about 45 minutes before being checked in to the emergency room. Signage was not very clear, so we really weren't sure we were in the right place until we got to the front of the line. There were people in line with us with all types of absolutely terrible ailments, and a few that looked like they needed to be lying down, or at least sitting, but all wheelchairs were full. When we finally made it inside, a lovely nurse named Elle checked us in. She was fantastic and so helpful and friendly. She took some notes down, and offered medication if needed. We sat for about 20 more minutes before being called to another station where we told another person all the same things, and were sent down the hall to "urgent care" where they warned us it would be a 3-4 hour wait. And there we sat. And sat. And sat for about 3.5 hours - observing only 4 people being called back, having x-rays, and then coming back to the waiting room to sit. They made several announcements over the intercom during our visit asking people not to ask reception for a wait time update as it only hinders their ability to work through the line. I believe we only saw 2 people leave with, what appeared to be, a solution to their injury. After nearly 4 hours and absolutely no end in sight, we decided to call it quits, and try to wait and seek help when we returned to the States. Before we left, the receptionist had us go in and speak to the nurse practitioner on-duty who gave us some tips and a sling. She was lovely as well, and seemed sorry that she wasn't able to help us. I know that England's healthcare system plays a role in the terrible experience that we received here, but we sat in this waiting room for hours in hard plastic chairs (still with plastic walls separating them, by the way, making it impossible to talk to the person next to you), and the water jug was completely empty. The ER waiting room had vending machines, so I ended up going back there at one point to get a drink, but my goodness, they aren't even providing the bare minimum here. My mom was in a lot of pain, but there were people here with all sorts of wounds, waiting all night just for a few stitches. After returning home to the US, my mom was able to visit an urgent care and only wait about 15 minutes to see a doctor. She's all squared away now (or on the way to it, at least) but this is such an extremely terrible way to do things as she was in a lot of pain for days.
