Like if a 2000's indie film came to life as a brewery. Delightful, quirky, laidback and gives you feel-good vibes. Nothing grandiose here, just good people and good beer. Small tasting room with wooden tables and benches, high ceilings and lots of natural light on the all white walls. 8 beers on tap. They don't do flights but will do half pours. Between my girlfriend and I, we tried most of the menu. To me the two standouts were the Schwarzbier (4.9% black lager) and the Co+lab (4.2% English ESB). Both were smooth and flavorful with a slight lingering bitterness. Low ABV makes them both quite quaffable, as they describe one of their other beers. We're from NJ where breweries are only allowed to serve the beer they brew on site and nothing else, so seeing food, wine, and cocktails on the menu was a novelty for us. We didn't try anything besides the beer, but there were some impressive offerings including a penicillin cocktail, and Knackwurst, oysters, and a variety of pizza. We stopped into Kingston Standard Brewing around 2 pm on a Thursday, so we were naturally the only folks in the place. The brewing equipment was right out in the open, behind the ordering counter, and there were a good deal of wooden tables in the front. The high ceilings and white walls really opened up the place and its brightness made for a festive atmosphere. The staff was very nice and clearly passionate about the business. After a few small tastes of the beers on tap, we each settled on a pint. My favorites were the Marzen, which was like a light and crisp Oktoberfest, and the Rauchbier, which possessed an unique smokiness. We also shared a soft Pretzel, which was the best we had ever had! Its sourdough interior was made from a locally-sourced flour, and its exterior had a rich, brew-inspired coating. It was served with a creamy, salted butter that was divine. We did not try one of their many creative pizzas that had been cooked in their stone oven, but they looked and smelled spectacular! Kingston Standard is a great local brewery the focuses on great customer experiences, simplicity, and of course, beer! I've been here a few dozen times since they opened and always enjoy some fresh brews paired with pizza and oysters. We've visited since management changed and continue to appreciate their customer service and convivial bartenders. Sitting outside on the picnic tables invites warm conversation with other patrons, including the many dogs that visit (yes, they're dog friendly). KS has a good rauchbier, smokey and amber. I also enjoy their Sour IPA, which is refreshing on a hot day. Counter service and no frills, KS is a go-to brewery for us! Don't forget to snag some swag, too. read more

Immediately, this should be called 'Kingston Standard Brewing AND Oysters'. This is another find all thanks to hubs when one Saturday evening noticed a painted "Beer & Oysters" wooden small sign with an arrow resting on the sidewalk. This is how Kingston does. The oysters instantly grabbed me. And while I've never liked beer, this is one of the few breweries I've been to that has oysters in their menu. I was also here to support hubs' craft beer fixation. We arrived to find ourselves in a spacious parking lot, whitewashed brick exterior, tons of seating outside and lots of seating indoors. The minimalist white paint follows inside. While not the most grand for oyster variety, their only selection makes up for it- especially for a brewery. My Rosé kicked ass and the Margherita pie was out of this world. The tomato sauce is how it should be: plain tomato sauce without any seasoning. The dough is thin and the crust is fluffy with a wonderful chew. The basil was glorious and the cheese, equally. Our Arugula salad with pickled red onions and shaved Parmesan was dressed delicately with no hint of mustard. The menu is done super simply- but mannnn, is it delicious! Hubs, loved their Lager and others after that. Order at the counter, keep your tab open if you want to, then your order is brought to you. Service is pleasant. Taking into account our overall Kingston S. experience, this makes it a prime spot for a light lunch/light dinner. Hubs was all in for the brewski. So they don't have a gazillion oyster variety, but their New Brunswick Canada oysters we had, were all the rave. WOW. I struggled with three vs four stars, but the only detractor is really the pricing. Everything else is good. The setup: I like the setup, though I do always struggle with places that don't make it obvious how to order. How do they expect people to know what to do their first time there? In this case, you place your order at the counter and they bring the food to you. You can open a tab or pay up front, but you don't settle the check at the table. There are large bench tables inside, and several outside on a patio- one area was covered and one not (at least while I was there) There is a really cool vibe, despite relatively sparse interior design. The food: There are not a ton a choices, but pizza is a good choice for satisfying almost everyone (ok, some people can't have gluten, or cheese, etc; but they do have two kinds of salad and oysters available). We tried the margherita and pepperoni pizzas, as well as the pretzel, all were great. The pizzas are only available as whole pies; they look to be somewhere between "personal" sized and 10" maybe? They range from $18-$20, which is about the limit of what I would pay for a pizza of this size, considering we needed two of them to feed two adults and a child (and were still hungry, even after a pretzel to boot). The drinks: An excellent selection, but beer here starts at $7. While less expensive than their nearest competitor (Ollies) they could still stand to offer a PBR or similar 'cheap beer' in an effort to keep a meal here under $35 per person with tax and tip. The location: Very centrally located off Broadway in the middle of the city of Kingston. There is ample parking in their lot (and you could probably sneak into the Refillery's lot if you had to). The staff: There were maybe 3-4 people working there and they all seemed quite friendly and pleasant. I didn't ask any questions about the food or beer (it's all rather self-explanatory). read more

I work in this town, & I don't get to enjoy these little gems that have popped up in recent years. So my husband & I spent the afternoon hitting up a few new ones, ans some we have frequented. This was a new spot for us. 1st of all, the young staff couldnt be nicer. Even after we got our beer, we asked questions about the menu & the ladies where very informative. We had the pepperoni pizza, which is thin crusted & really tasty. I had the Rauchbier, smoky German lager, delicious, my husband had the Kolsch&enjoyed. It's a nice,white walla, clean place with outdoor seating as well. We will be coming by here again on our motorcycles with our friends when the weather gets better. Love that Kingston has a namesake brewery nowadays! A little off the beaten path, but tucked in the back of a parking lot they've built this place out of what looked like an old warehouse. Lots of big beer hall tables and very open to the outdoors, it's typical hipster simplicity. Staff is extremely friendly and helpful which has always made for a good experience. Wish they had more than 1 unisex bathroom. Not going to say the beer is the absolute best in the Hudson Valley, however I consistently enjoy it. The Schwarzbier (dark lager) and Kolsch (light and drinkable) are the best bets, as well as the Marzen (Oktoberfest) which they have it. I really like the skinny cans too which I've only rarely seen breweries use. A little pricey ($16 per 4-pack) but that's the going rate for a nanobrewery. Have not eaten here but would love to considering the menu is a very much up my alley. Basically it's pizza, lobster rolls, oysters and a salad. Definitely thought up by a dude and that is in no way a bad thing. read more

Not worth the hype. I ordered the pepperoni pizza ($17 - check the miniscule size in the photo next to a fork) and a beer pack of 4 ($15 for some mighty small beers). Total price with tax: $34.56. The pizza was incredibly thin with a smattering of teeny tiny pepperonis on it. It tasted blah and a little burnt. I didn't take the time to see the price of the beer or I would have left it behind. The beer tasted just ok and there are plenty of IPA's in the area to compare to. The only good thing was that the order came out fast. This was my first visit to this place and probably my last. Just like the market next door, it is yet another indication of overpriced product for the area. I'm sure out-of-towners are pleased as punch with this little smack of gentrification in Kingston and maybe the oysters are so fabulous they make up for the lack of quality elsewhere, but I'm not impressed. This brewer, restaurant is a gem in the back streets of Kingston, NY! We had a dozen of the cleanest Boston Oysters, serves with grated horseradish and 2 glass droppers; Mignon and hot sauce. Wifey saw this place written up in the NYT back in June and we decided to give them a try since we're in Kingston today. Place is your typical local brewery where you can both sample and drink the beers they make and you can get 4-packs to go. Put out some games, offer nice clean seating, provide good beer and you have a winner. They also have a small food menu if you need to eat. This place seems like someone went crazey with a home brew kit. The beer is pretty good but that's where the fun ends. The food is limited to weird appetizers and small home made pizzas, mostly because of the limited space in a converted car mechanic garage so that most of the area takes up smaller brewing tanks instead of a kitchen. Only has one Unisex bathroom and an outdoor patio with they don't let you smoke. Seems like a place where I would just kill time while waiting to go somewhere else like for show tickets or dinner reservations wouldn't make this place my final destination! read more

Checked out Kingston Standard on the recommendation of a local business owner. It was late on a Saturday so the place was quiet. We were greeted as we walked in and grabbed a table by the window. Cool industrial feel to the place and looks like some nice outdoor seating for warmer weather days and nights. I'm an IPA guy so not a ton of beers in my wheelhouse but tasty selection. The star was their red that sounds like one of their original recipes. They have a small food offering but we had eaten already for the night. We did order a soft pretzel to meet the NYS food requirement and it was fine. Very clean place, some merch offerings if you want a tee shirt. They are a block off of Broadway in Kingston with their own parking lot. Super friendly staff. read more

Great beer and great pizza! We stopped here on a road trip from MD to VT. Our server was awesome and was obviously working so hard to keep service quick and high quality. A hidden gem for sure! The price of the beer was also a welcome sign. $6 a pint! We come from a very heavily saturated brewery scene in FL, and most beers are 7-8$. I was just pleasantly surprised to see $6 pints especially in NY! Pizza was thin, crispy and so so yummy. Perfect casual meal for a sunny day! Kingston standard has a small menu of things they do really well. I enjoyed a tasty cold draft lager and a perfectly thin and fresh margherita pizza. Loved the ample amount outdoor seating especially on a beautiful day. When I went they were promoting their new lunch hours on Thursday and Friday, so there was a lunch special for pizza + $1 beer! A great deal! There's ample parking, open and bright space, and plenty of picnic tables outside to enjoy on a nice day. There's a cooler of course for to-go cans which I'll have to pick up next time! I also really appreciate the pay-a-pizza-forward option where you can pay for a pizza for whoever may need one, although it would be great to have a little more visibility into how the whole thing actually works (are they tracking it? How many people who need pizza know about this a an option?), but that's my nonprofit brain kicking in. I actually like the bright and sterility of eating and drinking in a brewery. The beer itself is very, very good. Their stout was my favorite, but they had just simply good beers. I wanted to like this place but sadly I feel like it has a long way to go. These critiques may seem harsh but I just want the business to do better and succeed and I'd like to be constructive: The menu is limited and the quality just doesn't stack up. Despite the clean presentation, the pizza crust was bland and kind of soggy, and the pizzas came out at very inconsistent timing (due to the lack of ovens in the establishment, we saw only two small ones). The sauce had an odd sour flavor to it that seems to be due to the use of canned crushed tomatoes - and the bjorn qorn was literally a bag you'd get at the supermarket (despite jokes that 'bjorn' was in the kitchen). For a place that seems to brand itself as artisanal and service that takes a decent amount of time, it doesn't feel like the food is worth it. Being a brewery, the beer would be a selling point, but the Pale Ale and the Weiss were very watery, as were the cocktails. The Sour was quite good and was the highlight of our meal, just wish everything else we had matched. The vibe in the place was very "brooklyn hipsters moved up north" and the level of confidence in the establishment didn't fit with the quality of the fare. I really hope to come by again in the future once improvements have been made, but until then I don't see myself back here again. A few people touched upon it but the service and vibes are off, along with the prices. We went for the first time and asked a few questions about the menu, and what we got was not accurate to the answers to our questions. Asked what the compost pizza was and was told it's a combo of the pizzas on the menu (which are margarita, pesto, pepperoni). Got a pizza with mozzarella, onions, arugula. Beer came with lots of head in a small glass. Glass of wine was $16, price of pizza. And to top it off, we had our service dog (paperwork and harness on us per usual) and a man (owner?) rudely came up and said dogs are not accepted and needed to leave. Mind you, we said we were going to sit by the door anyways to be courteous in general but it was disrespectful and no apology when we stated why she was there with her documentation.
