I left monument park headed down marine looking for some coffee and lunch but found this instead. Kiniski's sits at the end of Gulf Road backed up to the water with no hope of escape. it looks like it's been here forever, but in a good way; kinda huge inside with assorted entertainments in the back but most everybody is outside because it's almost 90 with light winds. too bright sunshine, and not enough cover for me so I sits inside where it's cooler and comfortable. start with icy water while looking over the menu. pierogi are currently not available which breaks my heart so I retreat to the special: french onion soup burger plus fries paired with a pint of Bellingham POG. my lunch arrives after a modest wait split down the middle to show off the cheese and onion toppings on a pressed beef patty with a bowl of au jus and a respectable pile of respectable fries on the side. burger eats well enough and dumping a handful of fries into the dip got the salt level up too. Took a day trip into Point Roberts to see the area. Before leaving, decided to stop at Reef Tavern for a bite to eat. We were invited to sit anywhere although a few tables did have a reserved sign on it. Reservations are recommended on weekends, which there are not a lot of places to go so this would be the most popular place! There are a few booths along the windows which would be a great place to watch the sunset or water inside on a colder day. The food selection is mostly standard Tavern fare. I chose the Reef's Point Bob Burger which includes lettuce, tomato, cheese, grilled onions and sautéed mushrooms. I asked to hold the mushrooms. I was not expecting this food to be as delicious as it was. The fries were crispy and plenty of them. The burger and toppings are all fresh. Their honey mustard dipping sauce is just wonderful. Enjoyed the pickle slice on the top as part of the presentation. I'd like to go back and try their other options! read more

This is a wonderful place by the water in Point Roberts. Period. The sun set can always be seen from inside the venue as well as the large outdoor seating area. The staff is wonderful. Especially Tony and Farrah who basically run the place year around. Nick also works there constantly, the owner. And they're all three just such fantastic accommodating people. And of course, very hard-working. There's a lot more happening here than you might think. There's a full bar and they serve food, there's lots of activities for both adults and children. There's a play area for the children outside. They have a bunch of games inside such as. Pool, darts, air hockey, pinball machines, etc. Plenty of parking and a fun time for all. They do have sports on TV also. So if you're a football or whatever fan, you can probably find your game on. read more

Came here just because. Apparently there are restaurants in Point Roberts. The tsunami warning sign was a bit unnerving. You'll see if if you drive westward on Gulf. Fingers crossed. Parking is plentiful here. Mainly because, well, the place is deserted. There was a small group chatting inside but it looked like they were part of an event with the staff. We were the only guests there. With that said, there were dedicated parking spots outside for motorcycles. The place is seriously beaten up. I couldn't tell initially if the place was open. The interior is quite dim, and the seats had several rips in it. With that said, there was a (unlit) dance floor, and a couple of ping pong tables. Maybe this place is a bit more happening at night. However, this place has an AWESOME view of the ocean, as it's right against the coastline. The guy behind the bar was very nice, and even suggested we go up the street to eat at Caffe Capanna instead. However, we decided to give this place a go anyways. I ordered a fish and chips ($9). The fries were quite good, but the fish pieces were small. Oh, and they were also both somewhat burned. The interesting thing about this place is that apparently they take $CAD all the time at par, no matter what the market rates are. I guess the owner got sick of having to exchange cash in both directions. We even got our change back in Canadian dollars. Sweet! Yup, this is a dive bar. Not sure if I'd be back during the day, but it'd be interesting to check out in the evenings for sure. read more

Came here for lunch and it was pretty quiet. Service and food were great. I had the chicken strips, hubby had beef dip sandwich, and we had a couple of beers. It's kind of a bar-restaurant combo with a great ocean view from the bar counter. My chicken strips were a nice portion size and very tasty. Not greasy with decent amount of fresh French fries. Hubby liked his beef sandwich too. The bartender was friendly and attentive. I'd come here again. Only negative is the grunginess of building. When we first walked in, it had a slightly funky smell. But definitely give it a try if you're in Pt. Roberts!!! read more

Maybe deserves to be 3.5 or even 4 stars - depends on where you sit, what the weather is like, the day of the week. Inside is simply dreary, on a rainy day its worse. On a sunny day, sit outside. The outside boast a huge patio overlooking the ocean for as far as the eye can see. Guys showed up around 5 pm with chickens for the eagles nesting in a tree way up the bluff - they started swinging them in circular motions, the gigantic bald eagles took flight, swooped down and they threw the chickens up for them to swoop down and grab - awesome show! On a hot sunny day, the weather is beautiful, the scenery is too, the beer is cold and you could literally drink all day - as long as you don't have to drive anywhere! You can get cheap beer and you can get good beer, but you can't get both! LOL If you like watery, cheap American beer, its maybe $3, but if you want dark beer, anything with taste, and they had some good ones, its just like being in Canada - but what the hell, we're used to paying $5, 6, 7, 8 for a beer anyways! Spend a lazy, relaxed day here, and if its the weekend, it'll be packed with relaxed holidaying happy tipsy people! read more

Honeymoon Road Trip 2017. Point Roberts is a fun, unique place. Then to a place like the Reef Tavern to eat made our experience even more memorable! We loved it! The border patrol guard (we had a good laugh convincing him we were not actually lost) recommended the place to us. The outside is questionable. The back patio and beautiful. I had prawn "fish" and chips. My wife had fried jumbo shrimp. Both were delicious. To top it off, Tony (the waiter) brought us a complimentary bottle of champagne (see the posted picture). Tony is the nicest guy ever. We talked and joked for a while along with other people eating there - the remote location gives the place a low-key-backyard feel - a perfect place to escape to. Great little local spot in Point Roberts which boasts an AMAZING view! We didn't get the chance to enjoy it outside unfortunately, but sit at the bar and stare out while you drink your beer and enjoy a burger. This place has standard bar fare (burgers, salads, fish and chips and chicken tenders). We got the burger, fries and a caesar salad. Each was tasty and surprisingly the burger and fries weren't greasy as expected. They have a few beers on tap and bottled as well. Service was fine, our server was friendly and prompt. Don't expect the fanciest place, but you'll definitely get a great view and good food. read more

Came to Pt. Roberts to explore and stopped in to have a drink and a water view. Great fish and chips so people don't hesitate on that dish. We won't be here at sunset but apparently the sunsets are stunning worth a,direct view to the west and the Gulf Islands in the background. I've read a number of reviews that didn't like Kiniskis Reef Tavern and I guess they just expected something different. My wife and I went in on our anniversary trip and loved it. Its a great local Tavern with authentic charm and a great staff. The owner Nick came out on the patio and talked to us, the local patrons were really nice and the wait staff was spectacular. Oh... the BOB Burger was excellent, accompanied by terrific fries. Not sure what else you want from a local tavern but we loved it. Thanks Nick and staff!! read more

Shockingly terrible. We went into this pub just after noon for my birthday as we were staying at a friends cabin in Port Roberts for the weekend. The hostess had been eyeing me up since we walked in and then refused to serve me! She looked disgusted and told me that I was drunk. I hadn't had anything to drink, completely sober, I'm actually a shy and reserved person. There are not many options in Point Roberts so this actually ruined my birthday weekend. There's not much to pick from in Point Roberts, so I guess they don't have to worry about beating the competition. That shouldn't be an excuse for the rude staff and the mediocre food. We walked in and the waitress/bartender was immediately rude to us. We hadn't even all made it in the door yet and she was treating us like we weren't welcome. I get she was frazzled and maybe a little busy with the holiday weekend, but it was uncalled for. She started out by looking at us like we were bothering her by entering the establishment. She told us we could have any seat inside but outside was full. My mother in law started to reply "That's fine, we wanted to be inside anyway." and she quickly interrupted her by angrily exclaiming "GREAT! Then go find a SEAT!" When she finally came over to take our order, she continued to be very rude and very snippy with us. We tried to give her our order as fast, and diligently as we could to make it easier on her as she was clearly upset. But her attitude didn't change. I try and give people the benefit of the doubt since we all have bad days, and they were clearly under staffed and it was a holiday weekend and everything. But there is no excuse to treat customers so poorly. Especially a table with children. We felt like we were intruding and were scared to ask for refills or napkins or anything. We ate our lunch in silence and fear of making her any angrier. The food was nothing to write home about. I got nachos that were left in the oven for far too long and all of the chips were burnt. There was barely any cheese and the ground beef was just cooked beef, not seasoned or anything. My 2 youngest boys ordered personal sized pizzas from the kids menu. They were a complete rip off at $10 each and were absolutely tiny. Like seriously tiny. Maybe 6 inches across. And the pepperoni one had a SINGLE slice of pepperoni on it. Not even kidding. It was a total joke. I was so upset that we ended up spending a small fortune on poor quality food and horrible service. Like I said before, there's not a whole lot to pick from in Point Roberts. But you'd be better off just running into the market and grabbing stuff to make peanut butter and jelly sandwiches than to step foot into this place. read more

If you're outside on a nice day, and the kitchen is open, this is a great place to sit outside and watch the ocean and the eagles. And the special events are good. I appreciate how they sponsor benefits. However, on an ordinary day or night, the place can be a dreary throwback unless you're into sitting around drinking and watching sports on TV. In the past couple of years, the kitchen has improved tremendously. The Philly cheese steak is close to authentic. On Fridays and Saturdays, there is often a menu special. The Reef Tavern cannot be beat in the Pacific Northwest. First, the food is fantastic, no matter what you order. Best salads, burgers, and pizza! Secondly secondly, if you like classic rock music, you will love the atmosphere here. Third, the views from the patio cannot be beat. The patio jets over the beach so that you feel that you are on top of the water. This is a great spot for meeting up with friends and chilling out on a Saturday or Sunday. No wonder so many bicyclists coming across the border from Tsawwassen to enjoy the atmosphere and views from The Reef Tavern! Spent a great afternoon last Friday for lunch. We had family up from California and one was fascinated by the idea of Point Roberts, part of the US, but only accessible through Canada. He walked through the border and did his own wandering around the area, and the rest of us met him outside the Post Office on Gulf Road. We headed over to the Reef and found a table out on the deck. We had a great waitress and all five of us had an excellent meal. Food was amazing, and our waitress just added to the experience. Shocked at the terrible service we received. The hostess was extremely rude and disrespectful - when asked if we can have a menu, she rolled her eyes and yelled, 'NO! Sit down or you won't get any service. I'm not your server.' Later when we tried to get some water for our dog, she stormed out and yelled at us again and told us not to. Our own server was not much better- we waited almost 20 minutes for a takeout box and our check after asking him twice. To be honest I think we got poor service because we are Asian, and the staff are racist. The staff seemed plenty friendly to the other Patrons who were white. So sadly, my conclusion is: please don't come here unless you are white, or accompanied by white friends. Because you will be treated horribly. read more

Super sunny, clean patio with lots of sun and a beautiful view of the ocean (and the shipping ports). The BBQ master has waterfights with the waitresses. I love that! The best part? Ate there today after picking up a parcel. Sat on the patio in the sun with the waves lapping on the rocks about 5m away. Where else in the Lower Mainland can you find that??? I could barely see the inside - it was sunny out & I had sunglasses on - but I felt dreary. The outside is simple and fantastic in the sun. The menu (Thu-Sun they had a "full" menu) is limited, but the Point Bob Burger was tasty and was decent for $10. A pint of Alaskan Amber Ale was $5.75. Not too cheap, but whatever. I imagine the Bud would have been cheap. Will come back and sit in the sun most definitely. read more

Apparently they don't show Canucks games on Saturday nights because they don't catch Canadian TV channels. Is there not a pay-per-view option? Doesn't the Point Roberts cable service pick up the CBC? The food was mediocre but the worst was the waitress who served us. She made us feel sorry for bothering her in her holiday or something. On top of that, they charged me way more than what I agreed to pay by visa, which was found out later. The amount charged to my visa account was exactly such as if I tipped 50% and so I suspect that they manually modified the tip amount. I wonder how they can get away with it. I strongly advise that you check the bill and keep the copy. read more

As a local that has lived in point roberts for more than 14 years, I have spent a lot of money at ALL of the pubs/restaurants on point, especially the reef. and I can say without a doubt the reef is THE WORST place to eat or drink. Most of the problems are directly linked to two or three of the waitresses as they are always rude, lazy, or just down right menacing. the older woman who is a waitress/bartender with the glasses is the absolute worst. Avoid her at all costs! As the other review stated, you will get stared at, get mean looks, and most likely will not get served without directly going to someone who works there. and when you do, you will get yelled at or treated like an idiot. Ive never been to a place where I have felt so disrespected, and most of the locals know all this and never go there because of it.
