Loved it here! Not only are your views amazing, which includes the water, the camp site, and the pool, but the food was really good! Clearly a local fave, this place hosts many social opportunities, including karaoke and live bands! We came in because it's what you do when you visit Pender! I got the Gourmet Greens (beets, carrots, toasted pumpkin seeds, feta, green onion with red vinegar dressing). This salad was outstanding! Loved the complexity of the flavors and felt super healthy while consuming their drinks! I also got their Microdose Pizza (white sauce, mozzarella, mushroom, goat cheese - subbed for feta - pesto and truffle drizzle). I'm fairly certain they did not add the feta, pesto, or truffle but regardless, the pizza was really good! The reason we were here was because of their wings, specifically their in house made habanero sauce ones. I tried the sauce and was addicted! It's freaking hot but has so much flavor! I was hooked! I also got their Caesar which they pair with Bee Wild Distillery. They use the Nocturne (Black Garlic) vodka. The vodka is super good but kids of gets lost in the drink! This seems to be one of the more developed parts of the island with a pristine pool, great marina views, clean campground and popular pub-style restaurant. Campground: midweek in late June, it was not busy here - though that would likely change over the summer. There was a large grassy space for tents, a few flat hookups for RVs and several glamping style yurt/cabins. Not your typical Canadian campground between access to a pool AND pub - but very cute spot nonetheless. Pub: we sat on the patio. Tables were well spaced out and even though this was busy by island standards it was quite a peaceful meal. Burgers were popular with our family and there were several options on the menu. 'Brioche' bun description seemed a slight stretch (pretty sure these were typical grocery store burger buns toasted for freshness). Dressings were fresh and generally well cooked. There was also an impressive drinks menu including a few locally made items like Two island cider - an extra dry cider with hints of rhubarb. We glimpsed a swallows nest in the roof of the patio with several little babies poking little beaks out. Definitely a nice place to spend an evening. read more

Appies were good... calamari and fried avocado. Entrees were hit and miss. Beef dip had chewy bits. The heartachoke pizza was good. Cream of leek soup had more flour than leeks. Not great. The chef has never been to Hawaii and certainly has never had poke. The poke bowl was quite tasty but it wasn't poke. Great view. The food was very hot when they brought it. All in all... we would return but some of our group would order something different. read more

The patio is open and the jugs of Pilsner go down easily with the view of the marina, kayaks, paddle boards and even Kevin Bacon the mascot mini-pig! We tried this sunny little spot for the first time after a long hike last Friday on the May long weekend. Our server Lisa was absolutely fabulous sharing her favourite dishes as well as giving us the low down on things to in the area. She was helpful and efficient bringing drinks and food. The WINTER KALE CAESAR is delicious with baby kale, pancetta, fried capers, parmesan and croutons with a creamy house made garlic dressing, the FUNGUY PIZZA has a creamy Bechamel sauce with two cheeses (Mozzarella and Edam) wild mushrooms, truffle oil (to die for)! Too big for me to eat by myself so there was lots for breakfast the next morning. My friend had the special CHICKEN BACON CHEESE BURGER which he said was juicy and savoury and my other friends had the Mulligatawny Soup of the day with sandwiches. Everyone was ready for a food coma by the end because we even had the BERRY CRUMBLE WITH ICE CREAM...HOME MADE FROM SCRATCH! Need I say more. Just go have one with four spoons! read more

* Best local dining * Ok, so the 4 stars is definitely based on both the pub itself and comparison to other options on the island. I think this was the best food we had on the island during our visit. It would certainly be a three star experience in Vancouver, and perhaps a two or two and a half star in San Francisco. But for Pender Island it is a four star for sure. The seafood pasta was a fettuccine tossed with a lemon cream sauce and a generous amount of scallops and shrimp. It was topped with a parsley oil which helped to round out the flavours. It was plated with two scoops of vanilla ice cream and a bit of whipping cream (commercial, not housemade) and a gooseberry. I have a mixed review about this place. This was our second summer going to Pender and we stay at the campsite on the back lawn at the Port Browning Pub. I will start with my dislikes 1. I called a week a head of time to see if they do karaoke there and the girl that I spoke to said they would be doing it the Saturday night we were going to be there. I had been telling everyone this and everyone had been so excited and I got more people to come because of it. When we going there Saturday night, I asked the server when the karaoke started, he was sassy to me and said there is a band tonight and no Karaoke. I was so sad and was looking forward to it all week. 2. The Caesar salad was drowning in dressing. 3. The server had never even asked us if we wanted a second round of drink, which we did. He just brought our bill out after we finished our meal. But I have to say that the next day we ordered pizza and it was the best pizza I've ever had. It was the Tuscan lamb meatball with pickled apricots and artichoke. They really won me back with that. So thank you. read more

The location is picture perfect, the food was good, but unfortunately the service was unacceptable. Not only did they appear understaffed for a busy summer weekend, the bar staff appeared to not care. Breakfast was good, but it probably took 45 minutes to get our order with very few customers at that time. Food was good, but that was a long time to wait. We went back for a beer as a band was playing. However one waiter completely ignored us and the second waiter appeared to forget us as he was busy chatting with staff and organizing silverware. This should not have happened. Hopefully they will pay more attention to the service they provide in the future. It kind of ruined our experience as nobody wants to be ignored. read more

Took over an hour to serve us at lunch and it was not busy. Waitress was busy cleaning glasses at the bar and we flagged down another server. Shortly after, the food came out. The two who ordered burgers found they were raw in the interior. The rest of us rated our food okay, nothing special. New owners, new cooks and they haven't been able to offer good food or good service for over a year. Avoid this place and head over to Jo's, Philly's, or Poet's. read more

HORRIBLE FOOD AND HORRIBLE SERVICE. I ate here one time and the food was barely edible. I order the fettuccine and my friend had some type of Thai dish and both of us could barely swallow our food. Typically, if a restaurant serves Italian, Mexican and Asian dishes at the same place, your in for some pretty scary food, and no, it's not fusion. The fettuccine was overwhelmingly sweet with no other flavors; it was so disgusting. I took a bite of my friends "Thai" dish and there was nothing Thai about it and barely edible. Then, there is the owner, Lou Hensha, who has nothing better to do than to hang out at this bar, staring people down and sticking her nose inp peoples business just so she can get some ammunition for her gossipy-spreading-rumors way. This woman is a real piece of work. Just the look on her face is miserable and her personality matches her face. Don't tell her anything personal or go past small talk with her because that women will spread gossip/rumors about you faster than you can hang up your phone. It's amazing how inappropriate people behave there. They could care less about the customer and everyone is so miserable who works there because they all hate the owner is always their with her negative vibes. I would never eat or go there for a drink. Oh ya, speaking of their drinks, they're very watered down and overpriced. This place is very rundown and the only thing nice I have to say about Port Browning is the outside of it because it has a nice view; that's all. The inside smells horrible, like they never cleaned their carpets since the 60s. The cook looks like she hasn't bathed in months with dirty fingernails and dreadlocks. When I saw who was cooking my food, I almost threw up. I didn't want to be rude as my friend had taken me there for my birthday, but we didn't really have a choice as there is not much of a selection on this island. The vibe of the bar was really weird and uncomfortable. If you're not from there, people will either stare at you or ignore you. Hands down, I would never return to this place and I highly discourage people to go there unless you're into dirty restaurants with unhygienic cooks and rude people around you. read more
