Since this location is in Dalhousie, it's generally full of families with little children, which I would usually find abhorrent and avoid, but the sushi at this restaurant is so delightful that I'm willing to brave the occasional sea of crying infants and harried parents. The rolls as a rule are inexpensive, tasty and are brought quickly, the Sapporos are always cheap and delicious, and the salmon sashimi could bring the pickiest of sushi nay-sayers to their knees. Sometimes I come here alone and only eat the sashimi with my eyes closed, moaning only slightly, since the experience can only really be described as bliss that boarders on being sexual. I guess sashimi does kind of look sexual, doesn't it? Anyways, order the sashimi and ask to sit in the corner away from prying eyes. The way everything was numbered with pictures made it fun to pick out some sushi plates! Then our server brought up a complimentary plate to try some new options! I LOVED THAT! Great quality and selection of sushi and choices for non-sushi lovers, or even ppl who don't like fish. The grill selection is varied and satisfying. Easy to take kids and the staff are really good with accommodating them (modified chopsticks, high chairs, hand dryers at a lower height, and...Pocky!) Menu gets innovative updates to keep interesting. The staff is friendly and happy and service is very good. Free sampler as you sit down takes the edge off hunger and opens the option for new pieces you might not order without trying. We make it a regular spot, 1-2x/week. Gotta love it! read more

This place was great! As I travel the world for work, I have a little bit of unique take on the service industry since I'm frequently a lone American female diner. By far, this was the best customer service I've had in a long time. I often get ignored or forgotten as I don't tend to draw any attention to myself, but multiple servers greeted me and checked on me throughout my meal, including the owner. The free sample plate of sushi was great, as I was starving after a long day at work. It didn't taste like it had been sitting in the cooler forever either, which is frankly what I expected when it was put on the table. By the way, they have two single tables very close to the center of the restaurant which was very reassuring and noticed immediately - that alone was worth a nice tip since I get tired of being stuck near the kitchen. There were lots of things going on - it stayed very busy but not obnoxiously loud, and I was never bored throughout the meal. The owner was hilarious, and told me to come back with my boyfriend - when I explained I was only here for work from the USA and single, he immediately started flirting and calling for more free food! He said in his restaurant he always made sure the ladies were happy - I couldn't stop laughing! And the free Pocky once I finished eating was awesome. I had the Okinawa Roll and the Black Rock Roll by the way (since I reckon I should talk about the food a little) and the taste was good, fish wasn't overpowered by sauce, and the mango was fresh. The rice was cooked well and the rolls were tight and cut to be perfectly mouth-sized. Nothing is perfect, so I think the two things I would mention that were less than perfect are: 1) that the ginger/wasabi plate you get is the super cheap stuff and really dry so if you like to eat either with your meal, don't expect much and 2) I was a little disappointed by the lack of variation in plain ol' fish, but then again, I'm in a landlocked province in Canada so I guess that isn't terrible. I know I'm spoiled when I'm home down in south Florida! Summary - great job with this restaurant, especially if it's truly a chain. Love Love LOVE this place! We went to celebrate finishing the year for FREEDOM!! We were very quickly greeted and seated by a friendly staff . We did come at an odd time so didn't have to wait long (we were there at around 2PM). They gave us sample sushi to try. We then ordered and the pocky man came around. My friends' only complaint which i think might actually be unfair, was that guys never gets pocky. The pocky man has a wonderful sense of humour and is really quite funny! The staff there are fantastic and it is HILARIOUS when someone has a birthday! The food was warm, came quickly, delicious, although a bit pricey. Although sushi portions were fair, ordering something like Noodle portions were a bit smaller than I expected. Fantastic atmosphere. It has a clean modern look, yet it still feels Japanese. As well as the staff are all very friendly with modern music being played. Food: 4/5 Because it's still a bit pricey and I was expecting little bit more portions from my noodles Atmosphere: 5/5 Service: 5/5 (I'd give at 6 if I could. This is a story of when a Kinjo employee let himself into our home, during a pandemic. Before the pandemic, my family and I used to frequent the Kinjo Dalhousie establishment regularly. Their food is unbelievable, a great price point and their location and atmosphere is family friendly! We have many fond memories at Kinjo. Feeling the weight of the pandemic and being tired parents of a toddler, my family and I decided to support the Calgary business and order a meal for dinner. We placed our order through SkipTheDishes and are familiar with the process. We received our order and noticed things were missing. This, unfortunately, at this point, was a normal occurrence with Kinjo. When we called to have them rectify the situation, they didn't want to have our remaining order delivered, they suggested a credit. Well, with a ticking time bomb, aka a toddler, we just needed our order. After a conversation that lasted far too long, they FINALLY agreed to send an employee to drop off the remainder or the order. As we were waiting, in our home, we all of a sudden heard our front door open and someone speak out, "hello?". The Kinjo employee opened our front door and had the audacity to let himself in. Our front door was closed. My partner walked into the foyer and there was the Kinjo employee. As a parent with a small child, and a family with small pets that love to try and escape, I think it's safe to say anyone would be frightened by a stranger in their home on a good day, let alone during a global pandemic. After speaking to the manager that night, he could not even begin to see where I was coming from. He was far from helpful and refused to help rectify this cluster mess of an incident. In the end, they offered to pay for 20% of our order. They didn't say sorry, nothing. Unfortunately, this incident has ensured we will NEVER be back and we hope others think twice about ordering from them. "It was a mistake, he didn't want you not to receive your order and he forgot his phone so he couldn't call you." - Kinjo Manager. Yes, it was a mistake, a HUGE mistake. At no point is it social acceptable to open the front door to a strangers home and let yourself in. I would have been 100% ok with the employee leaving the order at my front door, which on the original order stated delivery instructions of "leave at front door." Disclaimer: I'm not really a food snob. I like eating, so as long as there is decent quality food and good atmosphere, I'm happy! Kinjo certainly isn't where you go for gourmet food, but it's such a fun restaurant with great vibes. And the Pocky people make it even more fun! It's great for groups, and it's simple to order from the menu. The food quality is actually pretty good, as it was quite fresh for me (even going on a Sunday evening right before close), and the food was brought out promptly. Pretty terrible customer service experience tonight. When our yam/avocado rolls arrived, I was surprised to find they contained mayo, which I am allergic to. This wasn't listed on the menu, and their other veggie rolls don't contain anything other than just the veggies. I asked the waitress if they could be remade without the mayo, and she said yes, they could be. She took the plates away and then she came back and said they were making a replacement. All good so far. Until the manager came by, offering pocky (which also has ingredients I am allergic to), saying that they were still going to charge me for the yam/avocado rolls, including the replacements. I was going to be paying for TWO sets of rolls. I sent the replacements back, and they didn't force me to pay for those, but it's just not very nice that I had to pay for rolls that I couldn't eat. Yes, I probably should have checked with the waitress beforehand, but it would have been better just to get a replacement so I didn't have to go home hungry. Kinjo management, please change your policy so that cheap veggie rolls (or anything with unlisted allergens) can be comped if the customer finds something they're allergic to in the sushi. Thank god I didn't end up eating them. At least list things like eggs, dairy, and other potential allergens so that customers at least can look on the menu to see what they're really getting and not be surprised. Needless to say, I won't be returning. :( read more

I love love love Kinjo, it's always my first choice for sushi. The waiters and waitresses are always nice and helpful. The food is always consistent and tasty. There are may choices to choose from on the menu, even though I'm usually set in my ways when I go. Note to couples who go here, I really hope you're at the 'I love you' phase because there may be a man who comes around and gets the man of the table to say how beautiful and wonderful the lady is and how much he loves her. Speaking from experience, if you're not at the 'I love you' phase, especially with a group of people, it can be a little awkward. read more

This place is amazing, the food is always delicious and great value. They come with a free 4 sushi sampler for the table so its best to bring 4 people or less :) I can get a few rolls for less than 20 bucks, I usually get the yam roll, scallop(hotate), salmon roll or rainbow roll and tempura or baby octupus, I always get the chicken udon soup because its a big bowl of Udon and really flavorful and filling. I have gotten the magic steak before but it wasn't anything special, the chicken karaage is pretty good but there is a bit too much sauce. I have never gotten desserts because I always end up too full by the end :) They give free pocky at the end of your meal too, but now they've changed to mini cookies which are good also. I highly recommend this place especially if you live in the NW, it's at dalhousie ctrain station and delicious. Edit: Just went for sushi a few days ago, don't get the hot beef roll, they don't do half orders and the rice just blends in with the tempura a thick tasting sushi that is too salty. read more
