Food 4/5 Service 5/5 Ambiance 4/5 Food The rolls are a strange number. 9 pieces per roll? LOL. Usually it's 6 or 8 pieces per roll. Anyway, I came here with two co-workers for a holiday lunch. I had the dynamic dynamite roll & shared the salmon oshi roll with a co-worker. The dynamic dynamite roll was so filling I only had space for 1 piece of salmon oshi after eating the roll. LOL. The roll was very tasty I enjoyed it. The salmon oshi wasn't the best I've had. I think their rolls are better. The pricing for the food is reasonable considering this restaurant is located on King Street West across from the theatres like Princess of Wale. It's cheaper than Minami which is also nearby. Service After ordering we got our main dishes pretty quickly which was so nice as we were hungry. The waitstaff were two guys from what I could see. Though I think there was a lady also serving. To be honest I didn't pay too much attention as I was really focused on the food. Ambiance This is a small restaurant. Unfortunately I didn't count the amount of tables & chairs in the space so I can't estimate the amount of seating. It's not a big space but they seem to turn over the tables pretty quickly so I think it wouldn't take long to get a table. The decor was dark blues, and dark wood tones. They have some small booths & also tables for 2 which can be pushed together for larger groups. I liked this place & I would like to come back & try more of their dishes.
It was ok - nothing outstanding. The sashimi sampler was a good variety but the texture was off on the salmon. Not the melt in your mouth you expect. My boyfriend ordered the hurricane roll and the volcano roll; he loved the volcano roll but the hurricane was bland and messy to eat because it fell apart.
I was walking through Toronto and I came across this small but very cozy Japanese restaurant. I loved the vibe, it makes you feel calm, they play relaxing music and that makes you enjoy the place and the food. The service was super good from start to finish. We ordered miso soup, sushi and beef teriyaki. The food was good, the fish felt fresh. I must say that the presentation of the beef teriyaki looked and tasted incredible. They have vegetarian options on the menu and are located in an excellent area, the only thing is that parking is not so easy because it is right in the center.
Kinoya is a great option for a casual sushi dining experience. We ordered the sushi and sashimi platter with hot sake to share. The fish tasted fresh and there was a good variety of fish and cuts. Portions were generous and you definitely get bang for your buck. I'd be interested in trying their rolls and izakaya items next time I'm in the area. + 10% takeout when you pay with cash!
This is a relatively affordable sushi joint located in the entertainment district. They have a 10% discount if you pay with cash. We did go around closing time so the server reminded us at least three times to hurry up and order. We got a few sushi rolls, the California roll and the dynamite. Also got the dinner bento with salmon teriyaki, mixed vegetable and shrimp tempura, sashimi, and steamed rice. Since it was Christmas Eve, we also got complimentary salad and miso soup. The sushi and the food was pretty average. Washrooms are downstairs. The seating areas are pretty spacious and this is a good restaurant for groups.
Tiny japanese restaurant at King and John. I've always wanted to try this and because it's walking distance from the office. As soon as we walked in, we felt welcomed and quickly got our seats. We got the aburi salmon don set and maki set. It was during lunch time so it was about $20 for each. Hot tea was free so that was a bonus. The aburi was a bit overcooked (compared to the menu), but it was tasty. The maki set was also pretty good and it was thinly wrapped, not too much rice. 10% off cash when the bill is over $20 (one bill only).
In Toronto for work and must say I was very happy with this find. Small sushi restaurant and it was crowded but service was great. Big menu so lots of options. I had the 23 piece sashimi dinner. The fish was so tender and mouthwatering. Had a side of spicy ponzu sauce with it. So good! Will be back next time I'm in town.
I've visited since their soft opening, mostly ordering ahead via ritual, but I've dined in a few times. I often find myself coming back over and over again because their service is good, they have great lunch special combos, and most importantly is that the sushi and fish they serve is really fresh. It's reliable in an area that tends to be overpriced for what you get. During my most recent visit, it seemed they closed an hour earlier than they should (or their hours listed online are wrong). They have table seating, booth seating, bar seating where you can watch the chef prepare the fish, and patio seating. A perfect variety depending on your mood and group size. Their washroom is in the basement so this place is unfortunately not accessible. During my visit, most of the recent was empty. Only a quarter of seats filled. Usually when I visit a Japanese restaurant, there's a list of items that I usually try to order. For example, if I see Tako wasabi, it's automatically ordered with no hesitation. I enjoyed their version; it was spicy and definitely had me tearing up. I loved that they served a lot of Nori with it!! Lots of places don't serve enough of it. I also love their chirashi don. I hate when fish reminds me of the sea, and this was fresh without feeling like I was also consuming the ocean. Their sushi rolls are also good. I ordered one of their lobster rolls. I thought it was overpriced because there was no flavour coming through. Otherwise, I like this place and I will continue to return. I think it's worth giving a try.
I came here for a sushi dinner in the city! It's a small place. I recommend reserving a table if you are planning to come over the weekend. The food was great! They have many vegetarian options on the menu. We ordered vegetarian combo makki, edamame and sake. Sushi was really great. Given that it's in the city, expect parking spot issues. We parked in the Mirvish parking lot or something on John st.

Ended up going to this restaurant after a Blue Jays game and it was pretty busy. Waited around 10-15mins to get a seat. The ambiance of the restaurant was really nice and it was not too loud even with the place being packed. I ordered the Red Spider roll and it was pretty good. The only thing I wish was that it didn't fall apart that easily when I picked it up. The presentation of the roll was really pretty and since we got seated at the kitchen table, we could see the chefs making all the dishes. There were alot of choices for sushi, noodle dishes and donburi's. It took awhile for the servers to even come with the bill, since we were done for a while and were just sitting at our seats trying to get their attention. Small cute little Sushi place. Staying across the street at the Hyatt, felt like sushi. Saw this place right away, popped in.. got the miso and the salmon unagi roll. It was amazing. Incredibly fresh and flavorful. 100% would eat again. read more

Tried this place out for dinner and got their beef teriyaki entree. They provided miso soup and salad as appetizers. Food and service was good overall, with a very nice ambiance inside. Limited seating available so there may be a wait to be seated. Menu is a bit on the pricier end. read more

food is great and service was also wonderful! love the vibe of this place -- feels really casual and easy-going which made it not stressful for us to take our time deciding on what starter and roll to get (sometimes it takes a while to decide when everything sounds good!!) the food: - we got the soft shell crab starter. came with a whole soft shell crab (cut in half), an asparagus, and a shishito pepper, all tempura style. - fancy lady roll was 10 pieces had lots of filling inside! - salmon lover meal had salmon nigiri, salmon+avocado maki, and some sashimi pieces! i would definitely come back here for sushi at this price point! read more

Solid Sushi Bar at the price point. Nice service and I like the vibe the place gives off (calm and relaxed). Both the spicy salmon roll and the negi hamachi and spicy salmon rolls were tasty, though the saba oshi sushi looked a little shoddy (it tasted okay, but wouldn't order it again). Good place to grab some small bites before going to a show or movie. read more

I wanted to give Kinoya 4 stars but I had to deduct a star because something made my stomach upset. Not completely turned off so I'll definitely revisit when the opportunity comes. Ordered the salmon lover lunch set with a side of shrimp+veggie tempura. No complaints about the tempura. However, the salmon lover set had smaller than average pieces and I could tell that it wasn't that fresh. The spicy salmon had more of spicy kick to it. I enjoyed their salad and miso soup. Fast service and efficient. With the trek, I made it back to the office within an hour. read more

I have been wanting to try this for a long time due to its proximity to the theatres and left extremely disappointed. The chirash don was $22 (or $19.8 with a cash discount) and included imitation crab and some sort of celery vegetable. Imitation crab is an item expected for grocery stores sushi, not expected in a restaurant part of a 20 dollar dish that should contain "raw fish and seafood", per their own description. Unfortunately, the rice was also poorly cooked, not seasoned, and stuck together. I did like that the set included miso soup and a small salad. The ambience is also nice. But do not get the chirash don. read more
I was a little disappointed as the last time I came to Kinoya I really enjoyed it. But this time it was only so so. This isn't the cheapest lunch special so I was expecting more. Some of the fish had too much of a fishy taste to it, didn't feel fresh. The teriyaki beef was very disappointing, the flavour was lacking and the sauce tasted like it was from a bottle. I'm not sure I will be back as Toronto had many sushi options. read more

We came in February for a quick weekday dinner. The space is open and spacious with dark furniture and accents to make the space seem cozy also. There was one server, but he was quick and attentive at all the tables. Many other couples were also there having a quiet meal together. The food price is definitely higher, but the food quality is solid so at least you get a good meal for the price. read more

Food: 3 Stars Service: 3 Stars Ambience: 4 Stars Fill Factor: Satisfied I have wanted to try this restaurant since it opened after Maki My Way closed a while back. I finally made the time to come down here during the lunch hour and I must say the experience was a bit underwhelming. My order consisted of the soft shell crab roll and an order of the red dragon maki. From the presentation to the taste, everything seemed fairly average. I have been to places where I felt that the food tasted really fresh or really tasty as soon as I place it in my mouth but I did not have that feeling here. I just got the feeling that it was not anything special. Don't get me wrong, the food was not bad here but it just was not anything to write home about. The service here was average. It was not very busy during my entire meal there but it felt like I was an afterthought most of the time. The restaurant itself was pretty nicely decorated. The decor consisted mostly of wood and there was a fair amount of space. I did not mind the dim lighting in the space either as it did not detract from the relaxed atmosphere. I had really high expectations for this place but needless to say it did not come close to meeting them. I still would not mind coming back for a meal here but it definitely would not be my number one choice in the area. read more

This place came highly recommended by a colleague who came here for her wedding anniversary. It replaced another sushi joint which was terrible so glad to see it's been redesigned as something better. While the fish is fresh and a much welcomed addition to decent food on this touristy strip; the price is a bit steep. We ordered the edamame, seaweed salad and salmon and tuna sashimi to start us off. Followed by 3 rolls: spicy salmon lover(which was my fav), unagi with salmon and another one I can't remember (tempura?). While the rolls, service and decor was decent - for the price point I would go elsewhere. So I docked one start just for that. My BF I were struggle to fit the long white plates the bring the rolls out in. Awkward if you order more than 2 plates. While I wasn't disappointed; it was also nothing to write home about. If I was brought her on my anniversary I may have been disappointed. read more

Try a weekday lunch and you will thank me! Amazing assortment of fish dipped in homemade secret sauce- a true paradise for salmon cravers. We ordered everything salmon- poke bowl, aburi salmon don, salmon sushi... Reasonable pricing (lunch menu) for a generous serving. Cozy seating for solo dining or friends of 3-4. Oh and10pct off if you pay by cash! read more

It's not very easy to find a good quality sushi spot that also won't cost you an arm and a leg. I'm a little glad they closed the old sushi stop that was originally here. Anyways, one of my friends recommend we have lunch here. If you're going with a large group, make reservations just in case. We were a group of 6 who made res prior to. We are seated promptly. They have a lunch menu as well as their regular menu including a la carte items. The lunch menu also includes miso soup and a salad with it. Most items are under $20 and quite large portions. We ordered Spicy calamari and The fancy lady sushi. Spicy Calamari: Not spicy but very delicious. It was cook nicely so it wasn't rubbery or hard to eat. Plus it wasn't overly battered which was an added bonus. Fancy Lady: Really yummy sushi roll. The tobiko eggs was just the nice touch required. I ordered The Chirash Don lunch options while my friends got the lunch special. If you're really hungry, I strongly recommend the lunch bento special. There's a lot more portions and variety that would be filling. The Chirash Don was really good. The sashimi portions for massive which is an added bonus. I enjoyed the lunch. Service is a little slow but that's to be expected when it's just one person serving 5-6 tables at once. read more
