    Hot Karaage
    Cassandra M.

We were so excited to go to Kinton Ramen's new location at Park Place, Barrie. We had been to one of their locations in Montreal, and we really enjoyed the food and the vibes there. To our surprise, the interior was decorated in the same way. With light wood finishes, brightly lit area and an open concept kitchen. The food was good but I do wanna add that the service highly impacted my rating of this location. We ordered Hot Karaage (3/5), Pork Gyoza (3/5), Beef Spicy Garlic Ramen (4/5) and Chicken Spicy Jalapeno Ramen (3/5). The service was unbearably slow and disorganised. There were only 4 other tables who were there before us so we didn't expect the service to be that slow. Just to give a rough idea: we got our karaage 15 minutes after we ordered (which is understandable, it's a normal wait time for an appetizer). We got our ramen 12 minutes after we got our karaage, and after we finished our ramen, we still haven't gotten our gyoza. We then reminded our server, who definitely forgot about it. At this point, we were frustrated. We finally got 4 pieces of gyoza 47 minutes after we initially ordered it. I think seeing other people, who came in after us, getting served their full meals and appetizers made it even more frustrating to be honest. Also, it wasn't just our table who found the service disappointing and frustrating. We saw two customers pay for their drinks and walked out because they were waiting so long for their ramens while they see other customers get theirs. The table next to us were also annoyed at the fact that people who came in after them got their orders taken while the servers completely ignored them. Honestly, Kinton Ramen at Park Place needs to do better. Until then, I would rather drive an hour to a different ramen place instead of coming back here. Now for the food review: Hot Karaage was crispy and juicy. The sauce itself was on the sweeter side which I personally wasn't very keen of. You get 3 pieces for 10.99 so I don't think we'd order this again. Gyoza was also crispy and juicy. The filling was satisfying. I wasn't a fan of the sauce, again personal preference. It was more on the sweeter side. A simple soy sauce dip would've sufficed. Beef Spicy Garlic Ramen has a nice kick to it. The garlic really heightened the depth of the broth's flavour. Chicken Spicy Jalapeño Ramen was mild compared to the spicy garlic. It also had a bit of a zesty flavour to it. They don't have spice levels to their ramens, and I hope they would consider adding them since we love spicy found, and found their spicy ramen did not hit our craving for spicy food.

The wait is over - Kinton in Barrie has landed! Stopped by today after seeing posts about it online. Everything you're used to about Kinton is here - friendly staff who'll be greeting guests and fast service. The restaurant was clean and fresh. Very aesthetically pleasing. The bowl of ramen was familiar. Piping hot broth. Good chew on the noodles. Good char on the beef. Nice addition to the Barrie scene.

The order taking and service itself was quite longer than we would've thought it would be. We probably waited for our order for at least 15 min. We ordered the Chirashu Ramen, Tonkotsu Miso and Agedashi Tofu. However, Sapporo Miso Ramen was mistakenly served to us instead of the Tonkotsu Miso which was quite disappointing. The food were great. The broths were light and nicely balanced with flavour, not too salty. The shrimps in the Sapporo Miso Ramen were cooked perfectly but the pork in the Chirashu Ramen was a bit chewy. The soy sauce served with the Agedashi Tofu had a hint of sweetness which was quite refreshing to the palate. Overall, the food satisfied our cravings but the promptness and accuracy of the service could be improved.

Service was very attentive, with staff clearing bowls and refilling water frequently. It's quite a small restaurant with very little seating (we saw lots of people turned away during peak dinner hours), so a reservation is recommended on Fridays or weekends. Overall a nice spot and would visit again.

Keeping in mind that the place is called Sushi and Tree, it was a cool detail to know that she was actually Korean (not Japanese). For a restaurant named Sushi and Tree, it was nice that they still have ramen available on their menu. While there are only just a couple of ramen dishes in the menu, the RS6 Spicy Katsu Cheese Ramen ($23) we sampled was special. The cheese slice that came with the ramen slowly melted and mixed into the broth, producing a rich, creamy soup. The generous portions of katsu that were part of the dish were also perfectly fried and complemented the rest of the dish nicely. Our group that came in all ordered the Spicy Katsu Cheese Ramen, and it did take a while for the order to be ready. Our hostess did mention that detail early and politely informed us about it. It was a welcome surprise that she gave us some spring rolls on the house for our wait. This restaurant is a good recommendation for the cheese ramen and the exceptional service. It was just a little unfortunate that the available indoor seating was not too many. As we were dining, several customers came in looking to dine, but had to cancel because there just were not enough table spaces to accommodate all of them.

Their main item, fried chicken and waffles. First off all, let's talk location. This takeout place is at the main "food" hub of Wasaga Beach #1. As you turn the main road, this is close to the subway sandwich so not very easily missed. Look for the blue shipping containers. It's the one with the patio section to the right. Now the food. Chicken and waffles. But not the usual southern style or Harlem New York kind of chicken and waffles. First of all, deep fried dark meat that's boneless. Paired with fluffy waffles. What makes this combo different and standing out from everywhere else? The waffles has a sweetnees to it. The Chicken, topped with honey garlic sauce that's more honey-ey than it is garlicky. And parmesan cheese. Yes. Parmesan cheese. The combination of the 3 makes for a medley of flavours thats a great trio to hit the taste buds. They also make for chicken Cesar salad and chicken sandwiches. I have not been disappointed here at all. Even the meals come with flavoured Italian Soda! Like coconut Lychee! Mixed berries, etc. Long story short, if you are ever in the Wasaga Beach area and are hungry, do your taste buds a favour and get some really good food from this place!

The pork char siu slices were very thin, and for the price, it didn't really feel worth it. Flavor-wise it was okay, but nothing beyond expectations. My friend had the King of Kings as our server said this is one of their most popular choices. I opted for the Spicy Charsu. Now I understand some people can't handle heat but I live off of Purple Tongue hot sauce which is made with some pretty hot peppers. I asked for a level one and the lady explained that the spice level on the Charsu was a whole series of levels higher than the King of Kings. I get that . Give me the heat. Anywho, she was comfortable with giving me 0.5 but said I could make it hotter if need be. Ok, better to start smaller I guess. They put some sauce on the side which I added to my bowl. Personally I found the 0.5 a nice tingle; it was good. Made my nose run. But I'm totally getting the level 1 next time. My friend however tried a sip of my broth, spit it out and said poison poison because of the heat Mind you, his King of Kings was a level 1. Which to me tasted creamy and delicious. I love a good pork bone soup and I opted for the Spicy Charsu because of the pork bone base. I loved the broth. It was perfection. The noodles were so fresh . The portion size was enormous. I kept eating and more noodles appeared. The Charsu had an amazing flavor to it . Smoky and delicious . My friend is a larger man and even he commented on the portion size saying he would be ok with a smaller size as he was so full. Good portions for your money. We also had the Gyoza and the TakoYaki. The TakoYaki was soft and loaded with the delicious sauce. The Gyoza were enormous. We were both 100% satisfied with our visit and will be back for sure.

The concerned server told me that it may be painful, but being the chili head that I am, I gladly took on the challenge. It was a larger bowl than their regular size and my ramen came topped with lots of corn, some mushrooms, bean sprouts and 6 large pieces of chasu. The broth was magma red, but it was not as spicy as I thought it would be. Don't get me wrong, it was spicy but not to the point where it would warrant a warning. The spicy broth tasted like a mix of Buldak sauce and Capsaicin, but didn't have much depth. I finished my ramen, broth and all and enjoyed most of the experience. The least favorite was the chasu and the egg as chasu did not taste fresh, and I could not taste the char on them at all. The egg was over-cooked and under marinated which was disappointing. It's still one of the few ramen options in Durham but can't say it's comparable to the other Kenzo locations.
