original chicken ramen
Jessica I.

This was my first time at Kinton Ramen after many years and it did not disappoint! I ordered the original chicken ramen with thick noodles and it was the perfect meal on a snowy winter day. The chicken broth was particularly surprising (wasn't expecting it to be so flavourful!) and made the dish!

The pork char siu slices were very thin, and for the price, it didn't really feel worth it. Flavor-wise it was okay, but nothing beyond expectations. The chicken karaage was even more overpriced. $9.2 for just 4 small pieces - so basically ~$2.5 a bite, not worth it. Overall, it didn't really aligned with our expectations. We thought it was in a corner of the plaza so the price would have been reasonable, turned out that it wasn't really. Probably wouldn't revisit. Spicy white sesame shio (4/5) - I thought the flavour was good except the meat was a little lacking. Black sesame tantan (3/5) - This was probably the weakest out of all the ramen we got, not bad but also not too good. Stone bowl shoyu (4/5) - This one had the best flavour and there were lots of toppings. There's less broth compared to noodles though so if prefer more soup, then this might not be for you. Service was quick and food came out fairly quickly after placing the order. Not a big space but there's enough tables. We went during lunch and it was empty.

The service is top here and the owner of the restaurant is so funny and nice. Great guy to have as our server! We were also able to make modifications to our order with ease which some restaurants don't allow. My only one call out was the food smell in the restaurant was fairly strong since the kitchen is right next to the seating area so all of our clothes smelt like food after we left. Food: - Black Garlic Tonkotsu ramen: 4.5/5 stars. Totally forgot to take a picture of this, but it was really good. I really liked how the Ramen was not oily. The soup base was very yummy. The noodles were cooked to the right texture and the meat was great. Everything was very flavorful! - pork tonkatsu: 5/5 stars. This was the best pork tonkatsu I've ever had. It was fried but not oily and it came with three individual huge slices for only $15. MUST TRY - grilled gyoza: 4/5 stars. I'm not the biggest fan of dumplings so I'm not the best indicator of how good these are but they were very good! definitely will be coming back!

There were only two staff members on the floor at first, with a lot of people waiting and many empty tables that hadn't been cleared. It took about 45 minutes to get seated for a table of two. Another staff member came in later which definitely helped. We ordered the original ramen, which was ~$8 during the promotion, and shared the karaage, also ~$8. The karaage came with 5 pieces and was very juicy and tasty, though slightly pricey for the portion at regular cost. The ramen was good. I liked that you can add unlimited deep fried garlic and chili powder to customize your bowl. You are also ablee to change the broth but it costs an extra $2.50 (so I did not). The dried garlic was especially delicious and added a lot of flavor. The egg was good as well, although it was only half an egg. Overall, I enjoyed it, especially for the discounted price. At regular pricing, I think there are other ramen spots that offer better taste. But for a promo visit, it was worth trying.

The restaurant was at a busy location, which was the end of the driveway, everyone sees it before making a turn. The staff was nice when we walked in. We were greeted and directed to a corner table where was better with a baby. We showed them 2 coupons, 1 for ramen and 1 for fried chicken. The staff needed to talk to the owner about them. After a few seconds, she came back and said only 1 coupon per visit. We were a bit disappointed, because we were so hard to dine out with a baby, and not able to come again with a long drive and a baby. We talked to their owner, he was nice to let us try both at the same time. Oh yeah! So we have 1 original ramen with black garlic oil, and 1 tomato base. It won't take long to wait. The fried chicken came first, it was not like the breaded chicken, it fried from original, but after marinated; it has taste, but not salty. The 2 ramen came at the same time. They both really rich, but not so salty, because the salt level could be altered; the noodle size could be chosen as well, we did 1 thick and 1 thin. They both looked similar. Overall, the ramen and the chicken all looked good and tasty. I would like to come again if next time I come around this area, even though they were a bit pricey.

At first the broth wasn't that impressive, but it definitely grew on me as I ate. I loved the flavour on the chashu (none of that bland unflavored pork here) and the shiitake mushrooms were also marinated very well (though they were a bit on the sweet side). Don't be fooled by the photo - there is a lot of noodle in there! They also offer a free kids meal deal for kids under 12 with an order of two bowls of ramen, which is pretty nice if you're eating out as a family.

Initially looked busy and thought there may be a wait, but the line was actually for the dessert place that shares the same entrance. I usually switch up my order between the Clam Ramens (shio and shoyu). Can definitely say that these are always made consistent (at least on every visit I've had), so there's no surprise. My friend ordered the Avocado Vegetarian Ramen as part of a set. We were both intrigued by the taste of the broth. It was creamy, but not super thick, and had a fresh, vegetal taste. One miss this time was that my friend ordered a drink, but unfortunately it did not come out at all while we ate. We mentioned it when asking for our bill and asked that it just be cancelled, which the server was apologetic about. Interior is kept clean, which some table seating along both walls and also a long high-top bar (communal) in the middle. Finding great tonkotsu ramen outside of Japan has become something of an obsession for me. I've…read morebeen disappointed by countless bowls over the years, from Michelin-recommended shops in New York to overhyped social media darlings that make you wonder whether the people promoting them have ever had truly great tonkotsu ramen. Konjiki is good, far from great, but very solid. The broth has the right consistency with a satisfying richness, falling just a touch short of the deep, creamy intensity I personally look for. The noodles were cooked perfectly, maintaining just the right amount of bite. Nothing ruins a bowl of ramen faster than overcooked noodles. The soft-boiled egg was equally well executed, with a perfectly jammy center, and the chashu had excellent flavor and texture. My biggest criticism isn't what's missing....it's what's added. Like many ramen shops outside Japan, Konjiki includes pickled ginger, pickled takana, and braised bamboo shoots. For me, none of them improve the bowl. In fact, I think they distract from what should be the star of the show: the broth. In hindsight, I could have easily asked for them to be left out, but I've never really understood why they're included in the first place. Even so, this is a very respectable bowl of tonkotsu ramen and one I'd happily order again.
