It comes with gyoza (pork or veggie) or fries and a drink. The difference is that it doesn't have as many toppings as their regular one, and it only includes one slice of meat. Still a pretty good portion for one if you're not too hungry. If only they let you pay a little extra to change the broth, I would've ordered that too. I ended up ordering their meal-for-one deal. With this, I get to choose any broth I like, and it comes with gyoza (pork or veggie) or fries and a drink as well. I always loved their shoyu-flavoured soup for the pork ramen. I decided to carve some time out to drive north to Aurora to find a ramen place that offered comforting food. I did a search. I found Ramen Yutaka. I had bookmarked it. I needed to go. This eatery is located between Plates and Bowls, and Lee Chen in a plaza that I am familiar with. I've been to the former, along with Best Buy and Swiss Chalet in the vicinity. I had no problem finding a parking spot. I backed into an available one and walked into the restaurant. I was immediately greeted by a friendly woman. She said that I could sit anywhere, so I sat at a two-seater table. Another male staffer came over with tapas, sushi, and ramen menus. I wanted ramen, so I focused on that menu. Service is stellar at this place. The female staffer came over to ask if I had any questions. I didn't. She did say that on the ramen menu, the first few items were clear broths. The ones that were further down were creamy ones. I liked that the creamy broths were dairy-free, thanks to oat beverage being used. Nice! This place doesn't distinguish ramen with pork belly versus ramen with chicken. You get both! You get sous-vide chicken and roasted pork belly with the ramen broth of your choice. The ramen varieties are creative and unique. Seeing coffee and yuzu as ramen options piqued my interest. I ordered the following items: - Coke zero - Gyoza - Yuzu oat miso For the yuzu oat miso, I asked that the bamboo shoots be held. The woman asked if I wanted an egg. Without hesitation, I said yes. Both staffers were exceptionally detailed and attentive. She asked whether I wanted ice in my Coke zero. I said yes. I got water to start. It was much needed after spending my day running errands. I also ended my meal with it. My Coke zero had arrived. It was in a glass with ice. So refreshing! My gyoza were ready. They all looked yummy and the plating was pretty. The filling was pork and was delicious. The dumplings were pan-fried and had the perfect crispiness on the bottom. The house-made vinaigrette was so good. If it were ever sold in bottles, I'd get some. My ramen came out next. It looked good. I liked that only a bit of the roasted seaweed was in the broth. It was a nice touch as opposed to getting completely soggy roasted seaweed right off the bat. The yuzu provided a nice, subtle citrusy flair with the miso broth. I liked the oat beverage for a creamy, luxurious broth that was so good. I nearly finished it, but I was so full that I left maybe five spoonfuls of it. It was such an elegant bowl of happiness. It came with a sweet tofu rectangle that was heaven. I also liked the spinach that seemed to be wrapped in a rectangle. Unravelling it was fun! The roasted pork belly was a thick cut. It was flavourful. I throughly enjoyed it. This place specializes in chicken. I got three sous-vide slices that were so tender. If I didn't have any teeth, it wouldn't have been a problem eating them. They were so tender. I want more just thinking about it. The jammy egg was perfect. You get an entire egg. It was so perfect with this entire bowl of ramen. The ramen was on the slightly thick side, which made this bowl exceptionally comforting. They were chewy and so good. I slurped them down and was so happy. The yuzu oat miso is so special. I let the male server know that everything was superb. This ramen was $24. Yes, it's on the higher side of the scale. However, you get a lot of protein and everything is of good quality. I'd happily go back and get it again. I used the washroom before I left. There are two individual stalls. The one that I used was clean and spacious. Both staffers thanked me for coming. I wished them a great day and happily walked out with a belly full of goodness. Stellar customer service. That ramen joint in Vaughan can take notes from this eatery on how to improve in this area. I needed this meal. My week ended on a high note. Yay! Finding great tonkotsu ramen outside of Japan has become something of an obsession for me. I've…read morebeen disappointed by countless bowls over the years, from Michelin-recommended shops in New York to overhyped social media darlings that make you wonder whether the people promoting them have ever had truly great tonkotsu ramen. Konjiki is good, far from great, but very solid. The broth has the right consistency with a satisfying richness, falling just a touch short of the deep, creamy intensity I personally look for. The noodles were cooked perfectly, maintaining just the right amount of bite. Nothing ruins a bowl of ramen faster than overcooked noodles. The soft-boiled egg was equally well executed, with a perfectly jammy center, and the chashu had excellent flavor and texture. My biggest criticism isn't what's missing....it's what's added. Like many ramen shops outside Japan, Konjiki includes pickled ginger, pickled takana, and braised bamboo shoots. For me, none of them improve the bowl. In fact, I think they distract from what should be the star of the show: the broth. In hindsight, I could have easily asked for them to be left out, but I've never really understood why they're included in the first place. My friend ordered the Avocado Vegetarian Ramen as part of a set. We were both intrigued by the taste of the broth. It was creamy, but not super thick, and had a fresh, vegetal taste. One miss this time was that my friend ordered a drink, but unfortunately it did not come out at all while we ate. We mentioned it when asking for our bill and asked that it just be cancelled, which the server was apologetic about. Interior is kept clean, which some table seating along both walls and also a long high-top bar (communal) in the middle. Black garlic tender pork ribs ramen: So you can change your broth at Ajisen which is pretty cool. This was supposed to come w/ the original broth but I asked to swap for black garlic tonkotsu broth. The noodles were surprisingly firmer compared to my previous visits and the broth actually came out piping hot as opposed to lukewarm. Idk if they just hired new/better chefs in the back or if late night is when they serve the best grub. Either way, I received significantly better food than the last couple times I visited this place way back. The other thing I really liked was the tableside fried garlic that you could top up your bowl with. I literally unscrewed the lid and emptied out a third of the fried garlics into my bowl. SOOO GOOD. Although it was an improved experience, I still don't think the ramen is better than an authentic ramen spot. For that, I award 3.5 stars.
