Deplorable, I've eaten at this restaurant a few times and it's usually descent. The reason it was so bad tonight was due to the staff. I was told our waiter was newer so I was going to let it slide. Half our order was incorrect and then not so much as an attempt to refill our drinks. However, the waiter had time to lean over the bar and take a nice long break. We had to flag down another waiter that was attentive and ask for a refill. It gonna be a while before we go back to this place, if ever. read more

Food servings were very minimal for the prices charged. I had the steak and shrimp hibachi which, although tasty, was definitely no value for its price. I got 6 shrimp and 12 bite sized pieces of steak along with a cup of fried rice and some stir fried veggies for $30 plus tip. I suggest you go to any local steakhouse and get a good steak with a side of shrimp for a much better value. I certainly will next time. read more

If you're looking for low-quality sushi, this might be the place for you. I've had "sushi" (if you can legitimately call it that) from this place twice now. Both times, it was underwhelming. The rice was bland and dry, and they seem to like to skimp on the protein (aka. the fish). Honestly, it tasted like old rice with cream cheese in it, and the Nori was quite chewy. It's what I would refer to as "gas station sushi." (For those of you who aren't aware, there are places in the USA where you can acquire low-quality and rather risky sushi at gas stations.) To be fair, when I think of quality Japanese cuisine, Dothan, AL doesn't come to mind at all, but still...the "sushi" from Kinza has proved to be a mouthful of disappointment. Then again, I have yet to find sushi in Alabama that compares with the quality and range of variety I can get when I am home in SoCal. read more

Went here Saturday night and ordered the salmon...the salmon was cooked perfectly and great but the rice came with onions in it and I asked for no onions. The shrimp sauce tasted weird and the vegetables weren't good. My wife's vegetable was 11$ which is crazy! For some veggies and rice! Probably won't be back. Have to try some different Japanese restaurants in the area! read more

It's bigger on the inside. Seriously, I wasn't expecting much walking up to the front door, but the inside is really nice. I went with a small group for lunch. I ordered the Shrimp Tempura Box, which ended up being a half a ton of food. Everything was fresh and flavorful. Service was good, and quick. I was told kyoto on the other side of town was owned by the same people. This place is definitely better as far as taste goes. Nothing really stood out as far as sushi goes, just bland. Service was lacking compared to kyoto whose waiters seem to always be in a fast pace. read more

Pretty consistent Japanese restaurant which delivers sushi, chicken, and beef boxes. Only been there for lunch, but always delivers a good meal. Last visit was a bit slow with a 25 minutes wait for our food. read more

Kinza is good for the price. Definitely cheaper than other Japanese restaurants like Mikata. My kids like to go here for their hibatchi chicken and my daughter loves the green tea ice cream. I bring them here about once a month. We have had to leave twice because they were out of the menu items we'd come for. My favorites are the Ebi Soro appetizer and the volcano roll. The sushi is really good, never been disappointed. The fried rice here is not that good as compared to the other Japanese restaurants in town. My son does not like it but will eat some of it. My daughter won't touch the stuff. The wait staff is not that great. They have one waitress who is nice, friendly, attentive and remembers us and our orders. Fills drinks. The others are hit and miss. They don't have a big staff, so when they get a crowd expect few refills and slow service. read more

Our large lunch group ate here this week. They were very accomodating. The service was excellent and the food very tasty.

I ate there tonight for the first time with a group of four total. When we walked in, there were two tables, so we were a little fearful. The inside is nice, however we were pretty disappointed with the service. The food was ok - we went out of our way to try this place because of all of the great reviews, but I won't be eating there again. Like I said, the service was bad. We had six empty glasses at the end of our table and they were never collected. They just...sat there. This is the first time I've been into a restaurant where empty dishes weren't collected. Our waiter seemed to disappear so we went for a while at a time without refills. My order was screwed up, and I had to send it back. I'm currently pregnant, and one of my biggest aversions is chicken - they brought me a chicken dish instead of the steak dish that I originally ordered. My husband ordered sashimi, and his wasn't served until after I got my dish because the waiter forgot about it. It apparently was prepared and ready to go for quite some time (I know this because we were looking at it wondering if it was his). Very good food, good service. The susi is very good and the Hibachi is up to par with the rest. The only thing that was a disapointment was the Calamari it was good just not if you are expecting Calamari done Italian style. Sit at the Sushi bar and most of the time you will get an extra treat. The place inside is very nice and it looks like a fine dining restaurant. read more

Absolutely the best Japanese in Dothan. They have incredible sushi, the meals are great and the portion sizes are great too. I've never been there when the restaurant was dirty. The staff is very kind as well. I would definitely recommend it to all. You won't be disappointed. read more

I love sushi and these guys serve up some decent looking rolls but my fiancé and I both got food poisoning here. We were sick for days. It's unfortunate because the price is decent for a relatively large amount of food but that doesn't excuse improper food handling and preparation. The rolls we had seemed to be at a strange temperature.. cold rolls were closer to lukewarm and hot rolls a little too cool. This temp range, especially with raw fish or food being prepared by hands handling raw fish, is very dangerous. I will not be eating here again. Removing the food poisoning experience, I still would not go much higher that 2 stars. The chicken teriyaki in the lunch meal tasted strange.. almost old in flavor. The soup was marginal at best and the salad was incredibly over dressed. I feel these issues explain enough about this restaurant to warrant a 1 star review so I won't go into details of the terrible customer service. read more

TERRIBLE! This was our second trip to Kinza and the first time was enjoyable, but our latest experience was absolutely horrible. I ordered sushi and the other 2 people in our party ordered the steak hibachi dinner. My sushi came out in a timely manner, but we waited 15 minutes for the hibachi dinners to come out. When we inquired about it, our waitress told us that it might be because they just received a lot of other orders. There were MAYBE 4 other small tables in the whole restaurant. Finally, when I finished my sushi, the hibachi came out. The rice was so overcooked that it was inedible. Again, we made a comment to the waitress and she apologized, but didn't really seem to care. Our drinks sat empty during the entirety of the meal, to top everything off. At the end, we asked to speak to a manager and, of course, there wasn't one. I will never return to Kinza and would definitely recommend Kyoto on the other side of town. I won't make the mistake of "doing something different and going to Kinza" again. read more

We ate at Kinza for the first time yesterday. Our visit was hit and miss. The atmosphere is very nice, darker than Kyoto, with huge booths, and quieter, at least when we were there (dinner on a Saturday night). The full bar was a nice surprise and my husband ordered a mixed drink. The menu is smaller than Kyoto's but still had all our favorites. We usually get fried gyoza as an appetizer. Kinza's gyoza was overcooked with a slightly different filling than Kyoto's version. It was served with a sauce that had way too much salt in it, not the usual ponzu sauce we love. I would not order Kinza's gyoza again. My sushi was good although one of the rolls I ordered didn't come. My husband and son got hibachi steak which they said was a poor cut with an odd texture. They did not like it. We were served free tempura crab sticks, which we all liked. The chicken soup my son got with his meal was flavorless. Overall it will probably be a long time before we return here. read more

Went in on a Wednesday night and it was empty so I was worried about getting sushi as I wasn't sure how fresh their fish would be, but I can't hold that against them.
