I was skeptical of trying Top Thai based on Yelp rating and being temperamental on Asian food. I have had Japanese and Chinese, but never Thai. The restaurant was clean and felt like an Asian restaurant. I ordered Spicy Glazed Chicken and fried rice. The verdict? My Spicy Glazed Chicken was not very spicy except for the peppers that I was definitely not going to take a bite out of. That was a lesson learned. And for the pieces of ginger mixed in with the chicken. The chicken came in a sweet Szuechen sauce. It was ok. I was disappointed in the spiciness and I thought the portion was sort of small. The fried rice was what yoi would expect. There was no meat mixed in. I would give Top Thai another try. I would go for another entree. A 3-star rating was perfect for me to rate this. I am very disappointed to have to write this review. In fairness, the soup appetizer was really good. The salad was was very watery, and a little hard to swallow. The dressing had a lot of flavor, but the wateriness was over powering. My main issue was the Pad Thai. It's what I order ever time I go. I really love Top Thai, but today was a disappointment. The egg that came with my pad thai was burnt, and I mean burnt. I had to shove all the burnt pieces away just to continue eating it. I mentioned it to my server and he was very sweet and kind. He apologized and said he would tell them. I assume he meant management. I wasn't looking for a free meal. Maybe a little accountability. But I heard nothing from management, and I'll be honest. It made me sad. I truly love their pad thai, and we are not wealthy people. When we go out to eat, it is truly a treat. This one was not so much. I will rethink my next visit. We pondered La Favorita before I mentioned Top Thai. I wish we had gone with La Favorita. I wish Top Thai the best and I hope they improve on this. read more

Top Thai is so good don't let some of these reviews deter you. My family has eaten here for years about once a month and has had a good experience every time. You get so much food and it is always fresh and delicious. Their spring rolls are the best I've ever had and I love the teriyaki chicken box. Many of the negative comments I've read are not locals. We are local and eat at Top Thai 3 or 4 times per month. We have always had excellent service and good food. Non-locals could have picked up a bug anywhere...or could have come on a bad day after some riffraff has preceded them. I take them with a grain-of-salt. Food is horrible. Ordered appetizers & they were good, so I was pretty excited to try the food. My plate had a strange smell to it (I'm talking rotten smell), couldn't even touch it. When we asked for it to be taken off the ticket, because again I didn't even touch it. We were told that's how they make it and they had never had complaints. The attitude was basically "oh well, you're the one that ordered it." Horrible food AND horrible customer service. & for the employee telling me "I work hard, this is how I make my money" ... well yeah I work hard too. & I went and spent my hard earned money on disgusting food. Would have been nice if some accommodation was made. Also, would be nice to KNOW what exactly your food has. That way people can know what they're ordering. Is this Dothan's hidden gem? Is it the most underrated place in Dothan? After visiting Top Thai for the second time I came on Yelp and was expecting nothing less than five stars on Yelp. . . But there were only three, what on earth!? Why are people so quick to take a nice restaurant's stars away without any good reason? Anyway, my visits have gone way beyond my expectations. It is outrageous how low the menu prices are for such a classy place. With many items at the price of fast food you are eating on granite tables and having food served to you in a fancy way, such as sushi rolls in little boats or sake in a special bottle and cup (see photo). The service was wonderful even though they were very busy, and afterwards the sushi chef even came over to ask us how it was. Everyone who works there is so personable and kind. But the biggest thing that has me hooked is of course the food! So many options including Thai, Korean, Japanese, Mongolian, and Chinese food! We ate things that made us almost cry, they were so good. I loved the roti with green curry dipping sauce, the Mongolian beef platter and the lettuce wraps full of shiitake mushrooms and heavenly sauce. Make sure to try the Thai tea and the mango juice too! Oh boy, another disappointment in Dothan. This place is not a Thai restaurant but rather a mash of varying Asian cuisines. The range expands from Japanese, Chinese, Thai, Korean, and surpringly Indian too with "samusa" and roti. The place seems to be understaffed for a Sat evening with only 2 waiting staff. Perhaps, they were too overwhelmed which explains why our waitress never came around to check on us...unfortunately so, because we had wanted to order drinks with our food and the food was served luke warm and undercooked. They were pleasant enough, but lacking in knowledge of the menu and whether items had any dairy products in them. The food was definitely subpar in flavor. Started off with fried spring rolls, greasy to the touch. Got the yellow chicken curry with giant lumps of potatoes which were not fully cooked. Top Thai has top thai food. Visited on a Saturday afternoon, the restaurant is larger than it appears on the outside. The server/ host was attentive and kind. Started with the delicious roti -it's a must have, had the salad which came with a creamy pink dressing, had the miso soup - great light broth, had the avocado sushi - delicious and simple, then a few other rolls along with steak, shrimp and fried rice entree - all were good especially with the sauces provided. It was the worst experience ever at this restaurant . When we asked for a take out box , we were given a wet box dripping with water. So we asked for a substitute, she gave me again another used one and said they usually do give customers the used one from the soup! It was the soup we are going to take out but that was very outrageous!! Who can say for sure how they used that box before. We didn't want to say much , so came back without taking the food. If I could give zero stars, I would. The green curry had frozen peas and carrots and was mixed with something like campbells cream of chicken soup. The spring rolls were deep fried in oil that tasted like it had been in the fryer for a couple months. My son grew up on pho and we ordered a seafood noodle soup. It had rubbery, disgusting seafood in it. We asked to trade it for something else and the waitress shook her head and said no it's never been returned before. We said our son was hungry and we'd like to order some sushi. We ordered a spicy salmon roll. The rude waitress said "do you know it's raw?" I stumbled on this little gem while out to lunch with a customer. After what seems like a barren landscape of fast food and inauthentic ethnic knockoffs, who would have thought there would be a decent Thai place in Dothan? This place is nestled behind a Sonic, and might be a little hard to see from 84. Don't lament passing of the closed Pho place in the front, but continue to the building in the rear and you will be rewarded. I prefer things a little more spicy than most, but here they don't do the Chiang Mai "dear lord what have I put in my mouth" level of spicy (even if you ask for it), so don't worry. They have pretty standard Thai fare, served promptly at a decent price. A great spot for lunch. read more

I am trying them now about once a year. Today was one such visit. Service is good, the "Larb" I ordered was just minced chicken on a plate with lemon or lime juice and some cilantro, onions, and chili peppers mixed in. There was no Thai spirit or balance involved at all. I guess I have to finally accept that if they haven't started making real Thai food yet, and are still in business, then the regulars must like the non-ThaI stuff they call Thai food. I won't be trying them again. I'm the one who always brings his laptop drawing tablet in with him. I put divey for atmosphere, because their booths all have interrogation LED light mounted on tracks on the ceiling and it makes it very dark even at noon time. The front tables are a little better because they have a giant glass wall. When they remodeled they closed most of the booth are in behind a wall they built, so the booths are squeezed in between the wall and the sushi bar. Today was my birthday and I was about to go to thai house but they were closed on Sunday It must have been fate because I could not have had a better experience. Everyone loved their food! and The service was top notch! My mom only uttered once that I was "the Birthday girl" as I quickly hushed her because I get embarrassed easily, and that was all it took for them to later bring us out a surprise decorotive fruit dessert. Place is a rip off. I ordered spring rolls, and they didn't include them with my order. I called immediately and they promised next time they would be included for free.
