We visited Kips after a performance at the Creede Rep. It was a bit early for dinner but there were quite a few dining there. Kips may never be nominated for a James Beard award, but they have fine-tuned a tourist towns menu. Burgers and Mexican food dominate the menu. However, the burgers are solid. If you ask for guacamole, you will get a reasonable portion. The fries are a good choice. Our server was juggling a number of larger parties who seemed to be loudly and confidently confused about the menu, we cut him some slack as managed the other tables with admirable aplomb. When in Creede stop by Kip's Grill. The food was amazing. My husband go the carne asada and I had the chips and guacamole. The steak was cooked perfectly and seasoned great. I'd suggest getting it if you're here in a Saturday. The guacamole had a little kick to it, but it didn't overpower the rest of the ingredients. We visited this location after trying the first in Pagosa Springs because the food was so good. We fell in love with this spot too. The menu was a little different than the other spot, however, the food was spot on. I had the tuna tacos and I am so glad I did! Those were the best tuna tacos I had yet. Came on a Sunday afternoon, sat at the bar, ordered a lb of wings, a bowl of chili verde, a spicy paloma and a mild lager-both were great, the wings were very good and the best green chile I've had in years, and the bartendress was very friendly and served us quickly. Arrived in Creed later in day; didn't know if anyplace was open to stay, gas and eat. One of the only places to eat was Kip's Grill. A nice pub with several great beers on tap. They serve food but being Sunday they had a taco bar by only. I was somewhat hungry and my wife wasn't; so had a beer and I ordered the taco bar. The taco bar was amazing from tortillas, soft and hard tacos shells. There was an abundance of meats, taco, bbq, chicken, pork, garlic and red sauces, everything for a taco or tortillas dressings, chicken wings jalapeños pickled onions, picked onions black beans, etc, etc. It's a tad pricy, but for what it offers is a good price and you can go back as much as you want. As we were there, many, many more people came in and had the taco bar. They don't have it every day so regular menu are offered on those days. Staff was sure friendly and even said my wife could have a couple of wings, because she wasn't that hungry for full taco bar. Very hospitable and easy to get along with, I believe he was the owner. Creed, small town and Kips is a small town location with big service. If strolling through town, stop for a break here. Better food and service when I came back this year. I tried the open face burger and the birra tacos on two different occasions, and both were really good. Don't know what has happened to this place. We ate here before the food was good. Yesterday brought friends the food was not what it use to be. I ordered chicken wings beware they are heavily breaded. No where in the description did it state that. I actually left food. Didn't even want a to go box. My husband's food was cold. Visiting the area and some friends took us to Kips. Sat outside on the patio. There is a lot of seating outdoors as well as inside . Kips started out serving in a caboose and has since moved to the current location. They've be In business for about 25 years. Their catchphrase is " Pleasing the People". They did just that! We had a great time! The menus is heavy on the Mexican flair. The service was fast and friendly. I had a couple tacos that were basically a " popper" stuffing. Cheese stuffed pepper with brisket inside made into a taco. They have a huge burrito, salad, enchilada-like plate. Their margaritas are delicious and come in a large size. I ordered the strawberry marg with a sugared rim. They have several beers and a full bar inside. Kips is a great local, comfortable fun place to relax, eat , drink and play a great game of shuffleboard. There is also a pool table. I have been a fan for many many years... since the red caboose days. Food has declined over the past two or three years. Manager came to ask how it was and we told her the truth. She did't like that at all and took it out on my college age daughter. When you are in the customer service business it might be good to be kind and actually listen to your customer. The lady was just really mean. If you ask a question, don't say" that's how the tacos come out so I suggest you order something different next time". They definitely fell short in the customer service department department and there won't be a next time. If i knew Kip's number I'd call him myself. I'm calling this one Soup de Jour. After a late brunch and all day hiking above Love Lake, the misses and I strolled Main Street Creede looking for a bite to eat. Kips seemed to be the most happening place in town at 5 o'clock, so it was the obvious choice. There were no tables outside due to COVID, so we agreed to be seated inside. The temperature was a balmy 85 at the bar. This was the first of many omens to leave we somehow missed. Chips, salsa and queso should set the mood right for these two starving lovers. NOPE! The queso was so watery it wouldn't hold to the chips. I guess they stretch the queso by adding water. I've heard of cutting the cheese but give me a break. This must be Marty's old recipe. We actually heard the table next to us ask for a straw. I don't think our server got the joke. After sending back the queso we ordered up some poppers, wings and nachos. I know, I know. "Don't nachos have queso on them?" you ask. Yes, but this could be the delicious melty-cheese kind. You never know. But it wasn't. Kips doubles down on the how-to-stretch-some-old-queso playbook and drown the nachos in queso water. It looked more like tortilla soup served in a paper boat. Only this boat needed a bilge pump to clear out the queso water the nachos were floating in. Or should I say drowning. Aye aye cRaptain. Pull the plug on this mission. These chips can't be saved. Full steam ahead! The wings were undercooked, therefore inedible. Poppers weren't bad, but failed to satisfy this staving patron. I would say just skip the queso, but after looking back on this little adventure, I say skip Kips. Post Script: If you love a handmade, hand-squeezed, top shelf margarita on the rocks, come to my house on Saturdays because Skip's margarita tastes like dish soap mixed with lemon scented room freshener garnished with one of those trees you hang on your rear view mirror. read more

Popped in on a break during our hunting trip for lunch on a saturday. Place was moderately busy. Had a bit of a slow start when we got seated, but was ok after that. They kept our drinks filled and were generally attentive. We both had the chipotle bacon shrimp tacos and they were great. My buddy had the fries with his and they were pretty decent. Tacos and burgers were bland. $87 for 3 people with 1 appetizer for bad bar food. Service was terrible. Waitress was drunk or crazy. Service was slow. Go someplace else. Don't waste your money. All the good reviews on here are obviously friends of the owners or are paid to leave reviews because nobody would leave a good review for this place. Visited on a Wednesday evening. Had the botella tacos, some meat maybe a little cheese in a regular size fried taco. 3 were $13.95, quite a ripoff . Salsa and chips were fair at best. Waitress told us the specials on food and drink. Margarita was supposedly on special but still $11 when we got our bill, regular price. I ordered a beer which came just as we were ready for our check, 20 minutes late. I said no thanks. Wife said she wouldn't have paid $5 for her drink. Next time we'll go back to camp and cook our own food. I will say they were understaffed. Come on management get your stuff together. Will never return. read more

This place is absolutely terrible. I tried it once before, and hated it, but thought I'd give it another chance just in case. First, it's one of the few Mexican restaurants I've ever seen that doesn't provide chips and salsa. Six bucks. Then I ordered "Esteban's special". Turned out to be three flour tortillas with meat and sauce in them. No sides, no salsa or guac or sour cream (all cost extra) no beans and rice, nothing. Just three small stuffed tortillas wrapped in aluminum foil. Not even a plate or silverware. Food was OK at best, but I expected a meal, not just three small roll ups. And on top of it, all, the waitress with surly and short. She cannot wait to get back to her cigarette standing out on the street. Unfortunately, dining options in Creede are limited, but consider going to Tommyknockers, Miners, Arps, or even driving down to South Fork. Do not go to Kip's. Oh, it's a shame, because the other location in Pagosa Springs is really good. With some very minor steps and good management, this could be a great place. I love this place. Every couple of years a good friend and I go on a hike in the Weminuche Wilderness and we stay one or two nights in Creede. Kip's is where we "carbo-load". I love their pizza and their beer selection is great. Maybe some other people have had bad experiences here as I've read a few of them, but not me. I will continue to carbo-load here until I have a reason not to. And if the cost is an issue, remember that they are in the middle of nowhere and getting supplies way out there is at a premium. We had great entertainment the last time we were there. We usually spend one night before the 6 day hike and one night after we punch out. I highly recommend Kip's. read more
