Chavalos is an oasis on our 8-hour road trips to Denver! We were driving south on 285, looking for a place to order in Del Norte. The reviews were solid so we called in an order about 30 mins before we were going to arrive in Del Norte. The location is right off the main road. We got there and the food was ready and hot. We opted to eat right then and the server couldn't have been nicer! I have a couple enchiladas aficionados. One ordered chicken with red sauce and the other cheese with Christmas. The green sauce was tomatillo based, and a perfect compliment to the red. Both plates came with rice and beans that were devoured in 10 mins. My kid and I shared the carne asada plate and loved every bite. The meat was tender and it came with beans, rice, guacamole and tortillas (corn or flour). There's a salsa bar with a few different types of salsas that were great to add to our asada bites. I'm thankful we made the choice to try them. The restaurant and bathrooms were clean. We came in around 1:30 pm, only 3 other tables. When the server came over, we ordered a house marg and a tea. We also asked if there was a small queso but the kid snapped that they only had one size. He made the marg and tea and set on the bar. He then filled water for a table, got more salsa for a table and disappeared in back. The wife went to the bathroom, came back, and still our drinks were on the bar. He came out and checked on a table, not ours. We still had no drinks, chips or water, so we left. Such bad service. What a pleasant surprise! We stopped in here after deciding the wait for a half empty place was taking too long and so glad we did! The service was friendly and quick (I think Isabella was her name) and the queso was rich and delicious. The shredded beef in the tacos had more flavor than any I've had in a while. I cleaned my entire plate. I never eat my entire meal at restaurants! The chile relleño at Chavolo's Mexican is that good! A pro tip would be to scoop up the side rice and beans with the house chips and add in some red salsa! Our waiter was very friendly and accommodating. He allowed us to bring our puppy in the restaurant to eat in the back garden area outside. This was the best area in the restaurant too so we were happy! The food tasted like authentic TexMex. I stopped in with my daughter and her friend while we were in town for a weekend getaway. We were sat immediately and the staff was super friendly. The staff was masked up and guests were seated with adequate space apart. They were reusing the same menus but not sure if they were being wiped down in between with disinfectant. I had the chile verde and the girls had tacos. Our food was served quickly and I had a house marg along with it. The girls likes their tacos and I really enjoyed the chile verde. So glad we stopped here! Nicolas was our server. He was outstanding. Came here for breakfast on Easter Sunday. Nicolas was on top of it. I had the Huevos rancheros and my friend had the eggs with hash browns and sausage. Both dishes were excellent! I would have taken pictures but we ate it all as it was that good! Delicious! Chavolo's has a new location in South Fork,Colorado! It is in the old Rockaway restaurant building. Service was friendly and attentive. The food is very good! I had the Carnitas plate (#34) - crispy fried pork with a homemade pico de gallo beans and rice. The pork was really good. My husband had #18 - an enchilada and tamale combo with beans and rice. The guacamole appetizer was good. The only disappointment was the flan which was too grainy and not smooth. But, we will definitely be back! read more

I had puerco in salsa verde and my wife had chicken tacos. Both dishes were bland, very bland. The chips were fine, but the salsa was bland. The service, however, was first rate and so was the restaurant itself. My wife is Hispanic from the Corpus Christi area. I have lived in Corpus Christi and now Boerne for the past 43 years. Good service with a great salsa bar. My husband was pleased with his chili rellenos. The chicken tortilla soup will easily fill a huge appetite. One star for the salsa and the Micheladas. Our waiter was nice but then he disappeared after we ordered. No one ever checked on us until we were done with our food. The lady who checked on us had such bad breath that we could smell it right when she opened her mouth to talk, very off putting and quite offensive. My husband ordered the ribeye medium rare and it came out not looking like a ribeye but more like the mc rib from McDonald's..it was so well done that it was rubbery and dry as a bone..it had zero spice and zero flavor and it was cold and grey. Ok so we gave them a 2nd chance to make it right and make him a new steak..this one was completely raw inside and again no flavor or spice and also grey. My husband wanted me to try a bite, I didn't want to but I tried the first steak and it was disgusting so I spit it out into my napkin..I refused to try the 2nd one..I ate my enchilada which I ordered with green chile instead of red and it was the weirdest, driest most bland green chile I've ever had, it was gross..my Spanish rice was also bland, hard and chewy..the beans had no flavor so I added a little salt and they were fine. We traveled a bit to eat here and although it was nice to get out and take a drive, we definitely regret choosing chavalos in Del Norte. We refused to pay for the $28 "ribeye" since it wasn't even worth $1. I highly recommend choosing a real Mexican restaurant if you're looking for nice quality food! Ground beef tacos are very good. The taco salad is really good. Not a lot of lettuce. My wife and I share one. The burrito is huge and very good. They have a salsa bar with lots of items to bump up flavor. Friendly bartender. They make a great margarita too. I'm not fond of pina coladas but he gave us a sample and it's good too. Some of the best Mexican food I've had in the SLV & great service too! The owner & our server were so nice, great margaritas and salsa, and they have an outdoor patio in the back that is open during the summer, so we'll definitely be back! The chicken enchiladas with avo were delicious. My only advice would be to have better signage out front as the sign in the back of the truck that you see when you drive by is a bit confusing & doesn't give off the right vibe, oh and if they could get rid of the old carpet and do a tile, wood, laminate, or concrete floor, this place would be perfecto! read more

Every time I go here they charge me 10-30 dollars extra, it's just taken this many times for me to put together their adding way more to total than the menu. For a salad, steak, 3 enchiladas, and 3 taco, 2 shots 85 bucks. Btw, all of our food was randomly placed throughout 8 containers, and incorrect. It looked like a bomb went off. I've always tipped well, and have been here too many times for these mistakes. Not to forget they had 6+ staff, and still managed to not have a cohesive set up, and not one person know what a "coke back meant." After I added up what should've been our total on the menu, I couldn't equate up the remaining 20+ bucks they charged us. Not coming back, especially since I tried to resolve this with the workers of the restaurant and I just was met with blank stares. Traditional Mexican fare, nothing ornate but fresh, well cooked, and attentive service. Went there 2x over 3 days, once for dinner the other for breakfast! The cleanliness of the restaurant, hospitality of the server, quality of those food, was SO far beyond anything we expected from a small mountain town Mexican restaurant. This is a common Mexican restaurant, with little originality but also few disappointments. I tend to prefer high quality or something unique or unexpected, and I know there is something on the menu I'll like but I haven't found it yet. The carnitas were old, the enchiladas were basic, the taco was sad. I've had worse, but I've also had much better. But it's the only Mexican in Del Norte so I'll come back and try to find my "thing" The staff is great and have greeted me with enthusiasm each time. They take care of my table without hovering, and they are prompt and pleasant. The Salsa bar is loaded with a nice variety. And parking in downtown Del Norte is always easy. read more

We have eaten at a number of Chavolo's and their Mexican food is always consistent and flavor. Never overly spiced so that the heat over rides the flavor. Each venue fills up quick during regular lunch and dinner hours, we like to eat here during early bird type hours. read more

That was the best green chili I have ever had and the food under it was incredible. The service was fantastic and the staff was super friendly.
