Decor isn't the fanciest but food and service makes up for it. I got the flan, grilled shrimp taco on corn tortillas, and chicken taco. I also got a variety of their salsas. Do not miss out on their phenomenal salsa bar! My favorites had to be the chili oil and thicker salsa (can't remember the name but almost tasted like a chili and peanut chutney). They accidentally gave me a flour instead of a corn tortilla but let me tell yall both their flour and corn tortillas were VERY HIGH QUALITY. -service is pretty quick and relatively friendly -Birria was cooked well -rice and beans were decent; wasn't too dry -fish was also cooked well; wasn't overcooked -chips were kind of stale and interior of restaurant smelled strongly of cleaning agent -I would skip shrimp/fish tacos--nothing special and the slaw isn't my favorite; too mayo forward -sopes toppings were fresh but the fried part was a little too oily -would come here again though for the quesabirria -wings were surprisingly really good! We ended up here because of a search for food in athens on TikTok. This place came up and the food in the video looked so good and it claimed to be authentic so I couldn't wait to try it. When we first arrived we could tell the place was small but there is outside seating so that was a plus. You order at the register and pay then sit down. They have a salsa bar so that alone was a win first impression. Their health score was an 87-B but I didn't bother to look why.( big mistake) It went downhill from there. I was really excited about the aguas frescas because they are my favorite. I ordered the horchata one and on first sip it tasted bitter almost medicine like and I knew right away it had gone bad. I'm not sure how old that water was but it was no longer edible. I took it back and they took it to the kitchen. They guy inside the kitchen must of tried it because immediately after they took the whole container down and replaced it with a fresh batch. Needless to say I asked for a Jamaica one after that. Food came one plate at a time. Which if it's fresh then I don't mind. The tortillas on the pollo ala plancha plate were hand made with is great. Too bad the food itself was not. The rice had very little to no flavor. The chicken did not taste good. I ordered the hot lemon pepper chicken fries but the smothered the fries in buffalo sauce and it made them soggy and no lemon pepper flavor was present. (See picture) We also ordered the quesatacos with consomé and those were decent. Except the consomé was a little on the salty side. We didn't eat very much due to being annoyed the whole time by flies. They had quite a few flies in the restaurant and with the open salsa bar with no lids covering any of the salsas that's not a good thing. We asked for plates to go and left. The food we did eat made my mom sick within an hour of eating it. I still feel so bad for taking her there but I had no idea this would happen. The staff overall was pretty nice and can't blame them for bad food so we still tipped them. I can't say I would go back although I truly believe they probably had the right thing going at some point because they do have plenty of customers. read more

Nice small friendly clean casual Mexican restaurant with good food. Food:4/5 We enjoyed the Birria chimichanga (its largest tasty) as well as a yummy chicken fajita quesadilla. The guacamole was very good -nice and fresh and chunky. Portions are fine and they don't fill your plates with beans and rice, although you can order those and several other different sides. Their special is the Birria beef -cooked for 10 hours in 12 spices. There is a great condiment area with multiple salsas, extra onions and peppers, etc. Service 4:5 no table service, but the employees were pleasant and efficient. You order at the counter and they bring your food to a table. They do have carry-out and delivery. Ambiance:I'll give them 4/5 for their available outdoor dining but 3/5 for the indoor dining noise. Casual. Old building adapted and nicely decorated in Mexican decor with plenty of space between tables and booths. They also have an outdoor area with plastic sides to keep out rain as well as outdoor tables with umbrellas and a children's play area. Location: They are conveniently located 5/5 for Watkinsville but 3/5 for Athens. (It's a drive out of town on secondary roads).Nearby are other restaurants and the new large county library. Construction on many new apartment units may indicate that large restaurant crowds may be present in the future. * Our only complaint * was how NOISY it was . Not even half full for an early dinner time- but loud music caused everyone to talk loudly in order to have conversations. I don't know why restaurants think loud music helps digestion and sociability. read more

The BEST mexican food i've ever had in MY LIFE! The atmosphere was great, my order was taken fast and my food was delivered fairly fast considering how busy it was. Hole in the wall style restaurant located on the inside of a gas station across from Ingles on the north side of Athens. This is my new go to in Athens! My coworker knows all the hole in the wall taco shops around town and told me about this new place. We decided to go and give it a shot for lunch. We devoured our tacos! Overall the food was ok, the birria fries tasted pre-made and the the fajita taco salad was very soggy on the bottom. Fish tacos were good. Nice outdoor seating area. We ordered specialty drinks but never received them after checking in 15 minutes after receiving our food and waiting 15 more minutes with no explanation.
