BUYERS BEWARE Shell Gas Station, 920 Richmond Ave., Houston, TX 77006 On March 23, 2023, I brought my F-150 in because it had a water leak; this Shell Station auto mechanic told me the AC UNIT was leaking. This gas station auto mechanic said we could fix this the right way for $2,200 or the cheap route for $400.00. He stated the correct way to fix it was to remove the dashboard steering wheel, cut some wires to access the leaking AC unit lower valve, and replace the gasket. Then this auto mechanic stated that the cheap fix would be putting silicone around the lower AC UNIT valve for $400. This conversation occurred next door (900 Richmond AVE) at 3:35 PM when I initially dropped off my F-150 that morning. BUYERS BEWARE Today, March 28, 2023, I took my F-150 to my local auto mechanic shop (Crossview Dr, Houston, TX), and they said they had never heard of removing the entire dashboard to replace a leaking AC unit gasket with confused looks on their faces. They ran the AC unit diagnostics, checked for leaks, inspected the vehicle, and determined the windshield was leaking. I'm glad I DID NOT pay this lying auto mechanic $2,200.00. BUYERS BEWARE. Gas at this station regularly costs 20-40 cents more than that at the Gulf (formerly a Texaco) just on the other side of Rt. 527, 0.4 miles down the road. The Gulf station even offers a discount of 10 cents per gallon, for customers who pay in cash. This station does not. Today, the cost of unleaded regular at the nearby Gulf station (at 411 Richmond Ave.) is only $2.159 ($2.059 for those paying in cash). The cost of regular at this Shell station is $2.699, a whopping 64 cents more per gallon, for those paying in cash (see my pic). And the Gulf station is more convenient for those getting on 59 South, or exiting 59 North. So get out of your comfort zone, and take your business just up the road. It pays to discover.

After they informed me that the oil change was complete, my car would not stay running and repeatedly stalled. Employees instructed me to restart the vehicle and pull forward, but it continued to die each time. They then brought out a battery charger, which is when I had to step out of the car and point out that I never saw anyone add new oil to the vehicle. Only after I raised this concern did they apologize and admit they did not put oil in the car. Another employee then had to leave the store to purchase oil for my car. If the required oil was not available, I do not understand why I was told they could perform the service in the first place. What is most concerning is that they repeatedly attempted to have me start and drive the vehicle before any oil had been added. Once they finally added oil, my car's system indicated that the engine oil was overfilled. I am extremely disappointed that I paid for this service when such a serious mistake was made. The only response I received was a simple "sorry." To make matters worse, an employee told me, "I'm glad this is an Audi because it shuts off when there is no oil. Any other car would have blown the whole engine." That statement was not reassuring--it only reinforced how serious the situation was. Throughout the ordeal, I was repeatedly told that the vehicle would "reset itself" once I started driving. In reality, the problem was that there was no oil in the engine, which is why the car would not stay running in the first place. This experience demonstrated a concerning lack of attention to detail and professionalism, and it left me with serious concerns about the quality of service provided. Now I can only hope that my car is okay and now I have to pay even more money to get this fixed somewhere else.

Bonus points that it's less than 5 minutes from me. Every time I pull up, someone greets me at my window and takes care of it. I just show my vehicle insurance on my phone. I've never had to wait longer than 10-15 minutes for the inspections. Oil changes will take longer, of course. There's 3 bays that they work from. There are coupons on their website. There's a small waiting area while you wait. It's clean and has a TV and Keurig. There's a clear window view of them doing the work. You can also hear what's happening. I overheard some enthusiastic comments about my Crown. Haha. Thank you. I'm a Toyota person and had my previous one for 20 years. The nice guy who greeted me said he had his Camry for 311,000+ miles. Impressive. As long as I'm in the area, I'll continue to get my vehicle inspections here. Next time, I'll ask about their oil change.

Two years ago (in 2007), Houston was on it's way to becoming a gigantic bayou. The entire city. It rained for roughly 83% of the year. Flooding everywhere. Many of those days, it was as if a gigantic water hose (and/or a few fire hoses and buckets mixed in for variety) was turned on full blast and directed at us. On one such day, I and apparently half of Houston thought it wise to leave work early to avoid potential rerouting due to high water. Perfect. Traffic stopped in flooded streets. I decided to stop in at my convenience store/gas station to grab an orange juice before continuing my adventure home. I smartly thought, "I don't want to get my purse wet, I'll just leave it here." I grabbed my wallet and as I stepped into the store, remembered that I shouldn't have put my keys in my purse. I called AAA, but as it was 5:15pm on a Tuesday in a city that was rapidly turning into an extremely large bayou, the wait time was roughly three hours. Thankfully one of the owners was on the ball. While I was on the phone with AAA, he began fashioning a Slim Jim out of a wire hanger. After about five or ten minutes in the rain, he had unlocked my car.

On Friday, 4/17/2026, I brought my 2011 Infiniti M37 in for an oil change. During the service, the…read moretechnician recommended replacing my air filters. He initially brought out a rectangular filter that clearly didn't fit, followed by a second option that was approximately the correct size but significantly thinner and flimsier than the filter he removed. He proceeded to install the two flimsy filters, discarding my old ones, and charged me $25 apiece ($34.99 each less a $10 coupon for each). About two hours later, while driving home, my car suddenly went into limp mode (maxing out at 12 mph) and the check engine light came on. This was incredibly distressing. I managed to limp the car to a gas station and immediately suspected the ill-fitting air filters were to blame. Because the flimsy filters did not seat properly in the cradle, particulate matter bypassed the filter and coated my Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensors, triggering limp mode. I was able to limp the car home and confirmed the issue with an OBD2 scanner. Fortunately, I am fairly handy. I went to AutoZone and purchased the correct filters that firmly press into the housing and create a tight seal, along with MAF sensor cleaner. After cleaning both sensors and installing the proper filters, the check engine light and codes cleared. Had I not been able to diagnose and fix this myself, I would have had the car towed to a service center and Take 5 would be looking at a reimbursement request for hundreds of dollars in towing and diagnostic fees. On Saturday, I returned to the Take 5 location with the improper filters placed in the STP filter boxes. I showed the technician and the duty manager the difference in fit, explaining how a loose filter allows particulates to bypass the system. I reinstalled the improper sized filter and showed the tech how it loosely fit in the air box and then showed how the proper filter fit snug in the box, held in place by the angled cradle pressing against the angled sides of the filter. The tech initially stated that the filters he installed were the ones called for by the computer; however, when he installed them I watched him try two different size filters to see which fit better. Clearly, if he had the right filter he would not have had to do so and would not have clearly looked different from the filters that were removed. The manager spoke with the tech, checked the part numbers of the filters I had purchased, and in all spent half an hour going back and forth between the computer and the phone. Finally, she stated that because the transaction occurred the day prior, the district manager would have to reverse the charges. I was told to expect a text from the district manager once the credit was issued. She stated this would be done on Saturday (4/18/2026). Today (Tuesday), I have received no text and no credit to my account. On Monday (4/20/2026) I sent an email with the above details to Take 5's customer service email. I have not received a reply or even an acknowledgement of receipt. I am extremely frustrated by the runaround and the lack of communication. I cannot trust Take 5 after this experience. I would have respected them if they had simply admitted they didn't have the correct parts rather than shoehorning the wrong item into my vehicle just to make a sale and causing me so much distress. Instead of asking to be reimbursed for my time and the extra materials required to fix the mistake, all I was asking for was a refund for the cost of the incorrect air filters. I still haven't received a reply.
