On Friday, 4/17/2026, I brought my 2011 Infiniti M37 in for an oil change. During the service, the technician recommended replacing my air filters. He initially brought out a rectangular filter that clearly didn't fit, followed by a second option that was approximately the correct size but significantly thinner and flimsier than the filter he removed. He proceeded to install the two flimsy filters, discarding my old ones, and charged me $25 apiece ($34.99 each less a $10 coupon for each). About two hours later, while driving home, my car suddenly went into limp mode (maxing out at 12 mph) and the check engine light came on. This was incredibly distressing. I managed to limp the car to a gas station and immediately suspected the ill-fitting air filters were to blame. Because the flimsy filters did not seat properly in the cradle, particulate matter bypassed the filter and coated my Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensors, triggering limp mode. I was able to limp the car home and confirmed the issue with an OBD2 scanner. Fortunately, I am fairly handy. I went to AutoZone and purchased the correct filters that firmly press into the housing and create a tight seal, along with MAF sensor cleaner. After cleaning both sensors and installing the proper filters, the check engine light and codes cleared. Had I not been able to diagnose and fix this myself, I would have had the car towed to a service center and Take 5 would be looking at a reimbursement request for hundreds of dollars in towing and diagnostic fees. On Saturday, I returned to the Take 5 location with the improper filters placed in the STP filter boxes. I showed the technician and the duty manager the difference in fit, explaining how a loose filter allows particulates to bypass the system. I reinstalled the improper sized filter and showed the tech how it loosely fit in the air box and then showed how the proper filter fit snug in the box, held in place by the angled cradle pressing against the angled sides of the filter. The tech initially stated that the filters he installed were the ones called for by the computer; however, when he installed them I watched him try two different size filters to see which fit better. Clearly, if he had the right filter he would not have had to do so and would not have clearly looked different from the filters that were removed. The manager spoke with the tech, checked the part numbers of the filters I had purchased, and in all spent half an hour going back and forth between the computer and the phone. Finally, she stated that because the transaction occurred the day prior, the district manager would have to reverse the charges. I was told to expect a text from the district manager once the credit was issued. She stated this would be done on Saturday (4/18/2026). Today (Tuesday), I have received no text and no credit to my account. On Monday (4/20/2026) I sent an email with the above details to Take 5's customer service email. I have not received a reply or even an acknowledgement of receipt. I am extremely frustrated by the runaround and the lack of communication. I cannot trust Take 5 after this experience. I would have respected them if they had simply admitted they didn't have the correct parts rather than shoehorning the wrong item into my vehicle just to make a sale and causing me so much distress. Instead of asking to be reimbursed for my time and the extra materials required to fix the mistake, all I was asking for was a refund for the cost of the incorrect air filters. I still haven't received a reply. read more

Take 5 still owes me $160. I went for an oil change, they accidentally drained my brake fluid. Ok- no problem mistakes happen. They did have my car towed to the dealership and had the brake fluid replaced HOWEVER they refused to refund me for the oil change. For the hours of inconvenience they should have refunded me for the service. I ended up having to restructure my day and Uber to the dealership. When I called they weren't able to "find the manager." Then one manager told me NO because he wasn't aware of the situation. Then after several weeks I was able to get ahold of the regional manager that also told me NO and talked to me like he couldn't under what my problem was, like how dare I call, and asked "who told you that you'd be refunded?" Very dismissive. Refunded denied. Common sense and customer service are apparently lost on this establishment. I had paperwork and receipts to show exactly what happened. I came here after getting no help down the street at Jiffy Lube, and the difference was night and day. I was greeted immediately and given clear instructions on what to do. The staff was polite and made me feel welcome--not like a burden. I got both my emissions test and oil change done quickly and efficiently. Highly recommend. read more

I was pulled into a bay and then left there for 35 minutes without anyone speaking to me. The person who pulled me into the bay left, presumably for lunch, and no one else took over or did anything until I got fed up with waiting and flagged one of the guys down. I was only here to get a state inspection, which takes about ten minutes. In total, I ended up spending an hour at the establishment, when I had originally been told it would only be a 20 minute wait. They also had to do my inspection twice because the guy messed up (his words, not mine). Oh and I asked for my tire pressure to be checked and guess what? Nope. So I don't think the value is worth the waste of time or the quality of the service read more

This was quite literally the FASTEST oil change I've had. And I've been to the other locations. The manager was quick to get me in and get them working on the oil change yet not rushed. They were still very friendly and engaging while working on the oil change and checking the tires out. For the time that you get back from such a quick turn around and the prices being on par with most other oil change places they provide great value in getting you taken care of while doing a great job. They even helped me out with getting some filters that were in need of changing. I will always go to this location - some of the other locations are more popular so they are busier and the wait is longer. Here there was no wait and the service was excellent. Victor the store manager does a really good job of the way they run things there. If you are in the area and in need of a oil change and in a hurry I would recommend visiting this location. This was my first time getting my oil changed, I was in Houston for the weekend and I noticed my car signal indicating that I needed it. It was Memorial Day and most places were either closed or didn't have the oil for my car. Thankfully I was able to get it done here before driving back home to Dallas. I believe it was Edgar who helped me, he was super helpful and answered all of my naive questions. After the oil change, they also checked the pressure in all of my tires. After leaving my workplace, which is nearby, I noticed the warning light on my truck's dashboard coming on repeatedly. For the past few weeks, I had been smelling something burning coming from underneath my truck but thought it was just a plastic bag that had become stuck under the undercarriage and was burning off slowly. However, the persistent warning light made me worry. I quickly searched for an oil change service nearby and found Take 5 on W Holcombe, which was conveniently close. Fortunately, when I arrived, there were no other vehicles being serviced at the bays. A staff member approached my truck and asked what I needed. I explained the situation, mentioning the warning light and the burning smell. Since another vehicle had just arrived, the manager, Rossi, took on my case. I told him I probably needed an oil change but was unsure about the source of the burning smell. Rossi checked underneath my truck and took some pictures. He discovered that the seal on the oil pan was leaking, which was causing the oil to escape and slowly burn off. He explained that it would be best for me to have a mechanic take a closer look at the issue. He said I still had some oil in it and should be OK to drive home but that I should have someone check it out sooner rather than later. I was very grateful for Rossi's attention and for his honesty. He could have easily done an oil change and charged me, but he didn't. I plan on taking my truck to be looked at. Once that is taken care of, I plan on getting my next oil change at the Take 5 on W. Went in for a simple oil change, when pulled into the bay I could smell pot all around, should have backed out at that point! but had the oil change, couple days later noticed drips of oil on the driveway, looked under and saw that they didn't tighten the filer! this is NOT GOOD for a business that changes oil. Eugene was the manager and he had a crew of two others. He made sure I was taken care of no matter what. He didn't try to up-sell me like most places do. You know, high mileage oil, unnecessary air filter changes, or mentioning of wear n tear I couldn't see. He was completely honest with me and that's what I loved the most about my experience today. His two fellow mechanics were readily available to answer any questions I had and were also extremely honest. One guy described the oil removal technique and why it was done. Pretty cool! I wanted to let you all know of the service that I received from a TAKE 5 in Houston TX 2413 W. Holcombe Blvd #0205. So the attitudes was good when I first pulled in... The gentleman got my information asked about what oil I wanted.. So the talking amongst the men was what oil needed to be put into my car b/c somehow a Nissan was listed.. Not sure how since I come there all the time. But anyway, after that got figured out, a man came around and said something about my coolant being brown and told me about changing when you get to so many miles etc. So he said its 140 but I can give you half off. I said cool ok let's do it.. So as the guy took my payment I had a 50% coupon that I wanted to scan for my oil change. Well when he gave me the total of 198.77 I said ummm I thought he said half off of the coolant and I gave you the coupon that doesn't seem to add up. So he said yes with taxes and everything that's right. He said people ask me that all the time. So I said I guess, but it still didn't sit right with me so after I got my receipt I calculated it up and the half off of the coolant wasn't applied. So I asked the man that took my card and he motioned for the man who going to do the coolant to come over to the truck window.. He says oh yeah he doesn't look like the discount was applied and I didn't know that you had a coupon for the oil and we can stack coupons. So I asked have you already started the coolant and he said no. I said ok just give me the oil change... THAT IS WHEN THE WHOLE ENVIRONMENT CHANGED.. Now I usually go to another one but it was busy and I have been to this location a couple of times and the last time I came they started to put the wrong oil in my car so I stopped coming but this time I tried to give them another chance. Soooooooooooo everyone's attitude switched because I decided not to get the coolant. No tire pressure was checked and no fluids were topped off. This is the ABSOLUTE rudest experience that I have ever had. When I say from here on out. I am just going to go to the places where I have to get out of my car b/c the service that I received today was the WORST. Now I know every franchise is owned by different people but if this is how you all are allowing your employees to treat their customers. I mean WOMEN customers then I'll pass!!!!! When it was clear I wouldn't pay, the technician left to work on another car. I went elsewhere to replace them and there was literally no difference, but it cost me an hour to take care of it and come back. Be aware that if you do your inspection here, it will likely cost you an extra $30-50. You might as well go somewhere else. read more

Very bad experience here. Went to get my vehicle inspected and my technician, Jon, was extremely rude. From the moment I arrived his body language was very rude. When I pulled to the garage he started pointing to the location where he wanted me to park, but his face looked very aggravated, as if he was bothered. He never said, ma'am, can you park here, just kept pointing to a location. Then as I pulled up, he told me "I'm sorry, I need you to park over here. So I moved my car." But the entire time he acted as if he did not want to be there assisting me. His attitude was very unpleasant. My BMW did not pass, and he was just going to whisk me away. He even told me to pull up as my car was being inspected and before even getting my results. Apparently my car was taking too much time and they had another vehicle behind mine. I had only been there 4 minutes. I'm not sure why they had me pull my car out of the garage to work on another car when the inspection wasn't completed. My car failed the test, and I tried explain to Jon that sometimes the sensors are not ready to pass the state emissions test and need to be reset by driving. He argued with me and told me I shouldn't have to do that. He seemed to not have a clue as to what I was talking about, however, I've had my 2015 BMW for years and I've had this issue before. If I could give zero stars I would. I went to this location because the location in Bellaire didn't have a state inspector today so they sent me to this location on Holcombe near Kirby. When I drove up, no one came out so I waited. Another car drives up behind me and then they drive past me and pull up to a bay. About 3 minutes later, one of the take five employees walks up to the end of the bay in front of my car and just stands there and looks at me with his mask on and his hands at his sides. And then I roll my window down and he continues to stay at the end of the bay and then he motions to me as if he is asking which bay do I want to go into because I'm not in-line with a specific bay and I put of the peace sign to signal 2 for both and then he motions to me to pick a bay again. So I drive towards the bay with the oil change area and he gets the cone and walks to the end of the bay. I drove away at that point because I have no idea what kind of poor quality service he's going to give my vehicle and me because that is no way to treat your customers. Every customer coming into your location should be treated with a professional manner and not so nonchalantly as if everyone coming to you will already know how to do whatever it is that they're coming for. I had no idea what the process was for getting a vehicle inspected and an oil changed too. Do they do the oil change first and then the inspection? Do they do the inspection first and then the oil change. I will never go back there. I suggest you avoid the location unless you're a favorite of theirs because apparently you have to be an established customer to be treated right. read more

They upsell everything, even an air filter that wasn't dirty. I came in for an oil change and spent $214. This was supposed to include the $25 state inspection but that failed because their computer couldn't communicate with my car. The technician said that it might be a fuse or the entire computer and wouldn't even look. He also never removed the inspection charge and falsely claimed that the fee was good anywhere for a reinspection within 10 days once the problem was fixed. I called another Take 5 location and even they wouldn't honor that BS. I took my car to Eric's Car Care and they fixed the fuse for free and reinspected the car, though they had to charge me for the state inspection. Avoid this place at all costs. read more

Went there for a motor vehicle inspection in order to renew my vehicle. Gentleman on duty greeted me with a cold stare down. As if thinking, "Great. Another irritating customer to deal with. I effing hate this. What do you want?" Then when conducting the inspection told me I wouldn't pass unless I changed my windshield wipers. They worked fine from what I could tell. Basically, this was a shakedown to buy $25 wipers from them. I told him it was not acceptable and left. Went to Midas, which is literally next door. Midas inspection went smooth and vehicle passed. No mention of wiper blades. Had been going to Take 5 for oil changes, but will not be back. Go to Midas next door! Much friendlier customer service. read more

So. I JUST left this establishment with ZERO customers because the two guys working right now at 11am on today March 25,2022 had the WORST attitude! ZERO eye contact, couldn't figure out how to unlock my hood lock and TOLD me to do it? I'm sure I can't be the first Jeep with a hood lock to come here. AVOID THIS PLACE! If I could give this place zero stars on yelp I would. I took my truck in for a routine oil change and let me tell you what I ended up with: 1) they put over 4 quarts too much oil into my truck and 2) they drained all of my transmission fluid out of my truck and did not replace any transmission fluid. My truck ran poorly on my way home and after checking the oil level I figured out what they had done. To their credit they came out to drain the excess oil from my truck as it wasn't safe to drive to be serviced. However while driving around later in the day, it became apparent that the transmission was not working correctly. After checking the level, there was no transmission fluid in my truck. This required another trip to buy transmission fluid to put in my truck. They had a 16 year old who had no experience working on cars work on my truck. Avoid this place!! As of today they still have not responded to my email that I sent to the email address I was given in response to my review. Shady company! read more

I just got my oil changed at Take 5 on Holcombe for the first time. I've got to say, I was quite happy with their service. They were fast, thorough, and friendly. Take 5 is a "drive-through" oil change service, which is new to me. My take: why isn't everyone doing drive through oil changes? Sitting in my own car for a couple minutes certainly beats sitting in some sticky dealer waiting-room for a half hour. I'll be back! read more

Curtis, I believe he said he was the manager of the shop, was very kind and such a pleasant surprise to have this morning. As someone Who gets nervous about going to tire shops or any type of mechanic shop, he definitely made the experience a good one. Not only did I get my oil changed but he also kindly replaced my air filter and my windshield wiper. Very kind very sweet very open with his communication and always let me know what he was going to do before anything was ever done. You receive two types of receipts one via email and one in paper that way you can have one right then and there. I would highly recommend this place to anybody who needs an early morning or a late time oil change. If you have Curtis that's just a bonus. Went on a saturday afternoon last year and experienced several issues that were filed immediately as a complaint and then had more issues reported to me at follow up by an independent mechanic that was subsequently confirmed by another Take 5 location. The independent mechanic and the mechanics at the Take 5 follow up location reported over tightening of the oil filter. A spring also became dislodged and was supposed to be replaced but was left on by this location. The follow up Take 5 location advised me not to return here again and to file a corporate complaint. They replaced the spring for me with a metal one. I ask originally ordered Mobil 1 at this location and it is customary for me to observe oil shops pouring 8 units (recommended amount for my vehicle) of individually marked Mobile 1 jugs. However, this location used a large less visibly marked container so i cannot rule out the possibility that Mobil 1 was NOT used. Lastly they failed to provide me with a follow up sticker... Overall, very unprofessional service. Do not take risks going here. read more
