I brought my 5 year old Springer Spaniel in to see one of the vets to look at a boil on his ear. As…read moreit turned out, he had broken a tooth, too. He was scheduled for surgery by the vet 10 days ago. I called 5 days after my initial visit, which is when I was told that my vet had left the clinic/hospital. I brought him back into meet the new vet and to give her a chance to see what she would be doing with the ear and tooth. This morning, I received a call from the receptionist to inform me that my second vet had left the clinic/hospital. I must say, I was very impressed by both vets with whom I interacted. The receptionist gave me a choice of two doctors that could complete the procedure, but that was it - just two names without any explanation or a reference to their website so I could review their credentials. The most concerning part of this situation is that these vets either left by choice or they were fired. It's hard to imagine that they were fired, since they were two of the most competent vets I have met over the course of 40 years and six dogs. Since general anesthesia carries a certain amount of risk, it's unsettling to think I was given two names without any explanation no other information. I'm going to reach out to the tech who was with us to see if I can get a recommendation on who I should choose. Am I crazy??? Don't you think that the Director/President of the hospital would call in this type of situation instead of a receptionist and a website that offers absolutely no information on their "team", which is one of the key components of the menu on their website. They've been open for four years or so and they haven't finished their website yet. Could that be due to the fact that they have so much turnover that it doesn't make sense to add bios? My first visit there, which was 5+ years ago, we had an appointment at 3:00 pm. We arrived 10 minutes early only to be kept waiting for 3:45 minutes. By the time we got out of there, we had been there for 4 1/2 hours and a bill for $850 for 2 CBC tests and some broad spectrum antibiotics. I vowed to never return. I guess the urgency of the current situation trumped my vow not to return. I have been wondering if these people have pets or kids. Anyone with either would probably understand how inadequate it is to call and provide two names without any further detail, other than that one was female and one was male. There was no suggestion to bring my dog into the clinic for a quick review to see what they would be doing during the surgical procedure. I find so many things are beyond the pale of my imagination with regard to how best to handle a situation where two vets that had scheduled surgery left, each within five days after meeting both. He's exceptionally knowledgeable, compassionate, and genuinely dedicated to his patients. When our large dog suddenly became ill, Dr. Schwartz was out of town--yet he still made time to do a FaceTime exam during our very first call and was able to help stabilize our boy within hours. The day he returned, he came straight to our home for an in-person exam. His in-home visit fee is very reasonable, but what truly sets him apart is the level of care: he answers the phone, checks in personally, and follows up multiple times. In our experience, that kind of attentiveness is almost unheard of. Dr. Schwartz is a one-in-a-million veterinarian, and we feel incredibly fortunate to have found him.

This post is incredibly painful for me to write, but I feel it is important to share. I want other…read morepet owners to carefully consider whether Dr. Adams and Midway Veterinary are the right choice for their pet's medical care before trusting them with a loved member of their family. My family is new to the area and we were highly recommended to Dr. Adams through a friend of his. We brought our 10-year-old dog in for a mass removal surgery. Shortly after the procedure, he developed panting, shaking, and a fever, so we brought him back to the office to be evaluated. Despite these symptoms in a senior post-operative patient, no diagnostic workup was performed -- no blood work, no X-rays -- and we were told to simply monitor him at home. Later that afternoon, I contacted the office again because he had worsened significantly. He was breathing heavily, refusing water, and still not improving. Once again, we were advised to continue monitoring him overnight and wait until the next day for blood work. That evening, his condition became critical and we rushed him to an emergency veterinary hospital, where he was diagnosed with bacterial pneumonia. After fighting for over 48 hours, he passed away. When I later asked Dr. Adams and the staff direct questions about why no diagnostics or treatment were done earlier that morning, I never received clear answers. The practice manager, Ashley, stated the matter had already been discussed and declined to provide further explanation. To this day, after asking multiple times, we still have not received a medical explanation for why a 10-year-old dog showing a fever, heavy breathing, and shaking after surgery was sent home without further testing. My dog was also administered a rabies vaccine while under anesthesia. We were never informed of possible risks or side effects, and I later discovered the vaccine manufacturer recommends waiting 2-3 weeks after anesthesia, especially in older dogs. Had we been informed of that recommendation beforehand, we would have declined the vaccine at that time. Additionally, antibiotics were originally listed on the surgical estimate but were ultimately not prescribed. I only discovered this after reviewing the final bill. When I asked why, I was told by Dr. Adams he "didn't think they were necessary." Since this happened, I have spoken with other veterinary professionals, including certified vet techs and staff at other hospitals, who agreed my dog should have received a more thorough workup when he returned with those symptoms after surgery. In my opinion, my dog's symptoms were not taken seriously enough, and the lack of urgency, communication, and proper evaluation cost him valuable time and ultimately cost him his life. I trusted this office with my dog, and I truly wish I never had.
