I was pleasantly surprised. We walked in and with the dining room and ambiance very informal, I wasn't sure what to expect. We ordered a couple traditional rolls and specialiy rolls. Everything tasted great and was quick. Dining room could use some spurcing up and extra elbow grease cleaning the windows and doors. I would consider this a relatively new establishment, and one of the first ramen places that opened up in the area. We walked in evening on a Friday evening and it was PACKED with customers! Luckily there was one unoccupied table and the waitress prepared everything for us to sit down. The interior is quite nice with an open kitchen and counter seating. I quite liked the painting of sushi on the wall as it was cute and vibrant. We started off with Calamari Tempura. The portion of the appetizer was unfortunately smaller than expected. It came with a dipping sauce on the side, a really sweet chili sauce. The crispiness was on point and the calamari was not overcooked. The overall technique was good but its portion fairly small for the price point. We then ordered the entrées, one garlic tonkotsu and one miso tonkotsu. The garlic tonkotsu was bland(no garlic flavor??) and came with lettuce as a topping. I found it odd because I've had ramen from many places before and never once have seen lettuce as a topping. The miso tonkotsu had a much more flavorful broth. You could taste the saltiness from the miso paste. It came with toplings that are more commonly seen on ramen in the states. Overall the latter was quite enjoyable. We ordered three rolls to split between three people: spicy tuna, dynamite, and alaskan. The spicy tuna was good, tasted like spicy tuna from other sushi places. The dynamite supposedly had scallops in it but I only found a tiny piece inside. It was mainly filled with imitation crab. Lastly, the alaskan roll. That was probably my favorite out of the three as it had salmon and avocado inside. The three rolls were not bad for the price. The waitresses were very nice and attentive. Customer service was on point. However, we found the ramen to be lacking flavor across the board. Plus, the lettuce topping on the garlic tonkotsu was a bit odd. Overall, I would say that the food wasn't amazing but also wasn't bad. Just an okay-ish restaurant. I would come back to try different things to see how they are compared to the food I've ordered before. read more

Lynda and I usually eat here twice a month. We usually sit at the bar to watch the masters assemble their artful and tasty dishes. Now that we are getting to be "regulars" LOL, the chef puts together something special, off-the-menu surprise. Each of his creations are absolutely Delicious! In the pictures below you can see one with the four wraps with partially heated salmon. Our favorites are their salads, vegetable tempura and the Sushi Nami. Finally a good bowl of ramen within reach in the Davison/Lapeer area! We came here on a Sunday night and had a great experience. The staff was friendly and on point. The food was fresh and very good. I had the spicy tonkotsu ramen. The broth was quite good. Next time I'll try the regular tonkotsu, as this is the standard to which you can truly judge a good bowl of tonkotsu ramen. But still their spicy tonkotsu broth delivers on the rich mouthfeel of a good pork bone broth. Solid A on the broth. The pork chashu had great flavor. However a bit thicker slice, with more fat would be very nice as it would crisp up better without drying out. A- on the chashu. The topping were a bit underwhelming. First, I would certainly ditch the lettuce, please, it just doesn't work. Second, maybe add some add-on options for toppings such as: corn, marinated bamboo shoots, wood ear mushrooms, bean sprouts, baby bok choy, crispy pork belly. I for one, as a ramen lover, would very much appreciate it. C+ on the toppings as is. Whatever experience the previous couple bad reviewers had must have simply been due to the fact that they are a brand new business, and at the time of those reviews, had probably been open for a few days. As anyone who has started any type of venture could relate, the first little while is a rough patch in which you work out the kinks and adapt to bring your patrons a better experience. Instead of tarnishing a business' ratings when they're just starting out, maybe talk to them first and share your feedback at the human level. After all, this isn't a corporate cookie cutter operation, it's just real people trying to bring some good Japanese food to the area. I love Kiren so much. I cannot say enough good things. Whenever I am home this is my number one place I want to go. I'm not even a big person on eating in restaurants but I eat at kiren because it's so cute and everyone is so nice. Sushi definitely tastes fresh. Kirin is alright for a sushi restaurant in Davison, Michigan. I personally do not like their ramen or any of their spicy sushi rolls. The regular rolls are okay, I mean it's on par with what you can get from Krogers sushi bar. I'm happy Davison is venturing out from fried bar and burger food, but wish it was better. The inside of the restaurant is pretty cool. There are a lot of cool decorations to look at. I've only ever ordered pick up, the service for that has always been great. My rating is solely based on the food. Once you've had sushi in Asia, it's hard to top. However, sushi in Colorado (middle of the mountains) is still better in my opinion. read more

Food quality has become poor with some items being cooked improperly ( spring rolls and vegetables overcooked) . Presentation has suffered as well.
