I have been to eyecare clinics for 50 years, due to congenital eye conditions. I would like to say that KIRK EYE CENTER is the most wonderful place. I've been to in my 50 years of eyecare health.. It is run like clockwork. I am never made to wait. The staff is so sweet and courteous. Dr. Tyler KIRK is a wonderful human being and you can tell he sincerely cares about your eyes.. I am getting excellent care and my eye condition is being treated and is well in control. I am so happy that I found the KIRK center, when my other eye doctor retired. I went to my other doctor for decades and was apprehensive to find a new doctor. But, my previous doctor recommended the KIRK EYE CENTER so I knew I would be in good hands. I had a wonderful experience today and I just had to tell somebody If you have any eye condition at all, please go see an ophthalmologist. An optometrist can give you misinformation, which has happened to me time and time again. I was told if I wore contact lenses I would go blind. That is a lie. I was told I could not use contact lenses from anyone but the eye doctor I was attending. That was a lie. Everyone should be seen by an ophthalmologist at least one time in their life. Even if you have good eyes. Optometrists sometimes give scary misinformation. Go to an MD. Like the KIRK EYE CENTER. You only get one set of eyes and treat them better than anything you have in the world except maybe your spouse. Ha ha. I can't say enough good things. My daughter had a great visit a few years ago with the elder Dr. Kirk, but my visit today has prompted me to never make another appointment there again. I was scheduled for a (sun)glasses check (they made my vision distorted and I became dizzy every time I attempted to wear them). I saw Tyler Kirk, who was, at the very least, rude and unprofessional. He began his diagnosis of how the problem was with me not wearing them frequently enough (despite the nausea) and not an error with the prescription. He actually became combative with me, insisting I was at fault for not wearing them for longer periods of time. Was I supposed to fight through the nausea and dizziness for hours at a time? Isn't that a clear sign that something is wrong?? I've had glasses before, and this is not a normal transition. When I called him out on his unprofessional and rude behavior he somehow figured that insulting me would be a great way to rectify the situation. I was so shaken and upset I couldn't get the right words out to tell him how offended I was and I ended up using incorrect terms, which of course HE USED TO MOCK ME. Clearly, he considered me a simple-minded twit and thought I wouldn't detect his passive-aggressive undertone. I was near tears and wanted to run out of the place. I felt humiliated and embarrassed. But I spent $140 on the glasses so I wanted to get them corrected. I had no choice but to endure his pompous and pretentious demeanor for yet another exam. There is way too much drama in these reviews about Kirk Eye Center! These doctors and their father Harold Kirk have been successful eye doctors in this area for decades - Harold was my parents' eye doctor. The current Drs. Kirk have treated my family quite well. Let me tell you about my appointment today: I recently developed a chalazion - blocked gland which caused a bump on my eyelid. The staff was very professional, I had a regular eye exam, then Dr. Scott Kirk met with me, examined my eye, explained the condition & the procedure to remove it. Then I was taken to another room,for the procedure to be done, only a tiny bit of pain from the needle to inject anesthesia, 5 minutes or so later Dr. Kirk was finished, put a pressure patch on my eye for 10 minutes, explained that I would have some swelling for a few days, shook my hand and that was it. Then another staff member removed the patch & I went home. All the staff including Dr. Kirk were very polite & caring. This was 10 hours ago & already my eye feels better & the swelling is subsiding. There is no reason to trust anyone else with my eyes - period. read more

i just got lasik done last week and i am thrilled with it! not only did the front desk staff go above and beyond in making me feel comfortable when checking me in, they even called me a cab when i was done with the procedure (they even waited outside for the cab so they could be sure that the cab didn't go to the wrong entrance). once i went 'backstage', both the doctor and the other staff in the surgery center answered all of my questions before i even had a chance to ask them... it was like they were reading my mind. they did a wonderful job of calming me down before the surgery (although the valium they gave me helped a ton) and telling me what to expect before, during and after the procedure. i have been going to kirk eye center for years and have always had GREAT service and competent doctors. the lasik was just the icing on the cake. wether it's for a regular check up or if you're consideriing going all the way with lasik, i highly recommend kirk eye center. read more

After reading the awful reviews that were posted on this site about the doctors, I just felt the need to share the experience that my family and I have had here. I brought in my 6 yr old daughter who was extremely nervous for her eye exam. The way she was treated by Dr. Kirk was amazing he reassured her that there was nothing to be afraid of, and her visit went GREAT!!! I then set up a visit for myself to see if I was a candidate for Lasik which I was. On the day of surgery I was so surprised on how Dr. Kirk walked me through every step of the procedure.Its been a little over a yr now that I had it done and I can't express myself enough on how happy I am with my vision after Lasik. It was great taking my vision test at the DMV and being able to read line five the feeling of that was just AMAZING. Dr Kirk and his entire staff were exceptional . I am extremely happy with my experience at Kirk eye center. The ladies in the optical center where is helpful as they could be in all very friendly. I brought in a pair of surgical glasses where lens fell out timer and the manufacturer would have taken a couple weeks minimum to return these to me. Due to my profession I cannot afford to go more than a couple days without them.the part that concerned me was that these lenses have to be lined up perfectly as they are very costly precision instruments. The staff spent well over an hour helping me with these and we finally we're able to get them back still working order and I am able to see out of them perfectly again. I am extremely impressed that the staff took the time and had the patience to work with me. From now on if I need anything Kirk eye center will definitely be my first go to choice. I went to Kirk Eye Center for a simple eye checkup and new glasses. I had been there fifteen years prior for a one time visit and they still had me in their system. Setting up an appointment was easy, after I arrived, I gave my insurance information to the receptionist, and a few minutes later I was in an exam room. Where they dilated my eyes. I saw DR Kirk in another room after a while. I found him very warm and personable, yet professional. It was not long before I was in the front looking for new frames. The staff there was very knowledgeable and helpful they were able to order the new frames I had just picked out. After a couple of weeks (Christmas and New Years were in between that time, otherwise I would have had them sooner) I was able to pick up my new glasses. Again finding the staff professional and helpful. All in all I would highly recommend Kirk Eye Center, they are a five star facility! read more

My vision declined drastically last year. At the end of the year, I couldn't even drive when it became dark. At first, I visited a retinal specialist and went through various exams. At the third visit, he told me that not much can be done to improve my vision. He also sent me to the Chicago Lighthouse to get special eyeglasses for visually impaired. Before I went to the Lighthouse appointment, I decided to get the second opinion from Dr. Carter Kirk. That was one of the best decisions I've ever made. Dr. Carter quickly diagnosed me with cataracts. He performed surgeries on both of my eyes shortly after. My vision improved dramatically after the surgery. This experience was positive from the moment of first contact. Joyce Wolter, who scheduled surgeries was prompt at replying to my initial query. Then the evaluation was thorough (and free). Dr. Kent Kirk explained my three options, answered questions, and I never felt I was being persuaded to have LASIK surgery. I mulled over it for a week, communicating frequently with Joyce about additional questions I had. Then I had the surgery and could not be more pleased! Dr. Kirk explained the procedure before and during, and a nurse held my hand while it was happening! It was quick and painless, and recovery is too. I have 20/20 distance vision for the first time in my life! The follow up visit was quick but thorough. The only ones I will trust with my eyes are the Kirks. My parents and siblings have utilized Drs. Kent and Scott Kirk (and their father before they were practicing), as well as Dr. Dean Bauer when he was associated with them, for over four decades. None of us had any complaints about their service. Eight years ago my mother had surgery there, with excellent results. My wife has recently had Dr. Scott perform cataract surgeries on each eye, both very successfully. It has only been one week but I am so grateful to Dr Kent Kirk and his crew for the service they provided when I had the Lasik procedure. My husband and I had been long-time patients of Dr. Fried so when he sold the practice, we investigated who was taking over. My husband saw Dr. Tyler Kirk first for his glocoma and was very impressed. I had scheduled cataract surgery with Dr. Fried and it was cancelled because of the sale of the practice. I investigated the Kirk Eye Center and decided to have my one eye done. I was very apprehensive so only scheduled the one eye. Wow...what an experience! I have been putting off laser vision correction for years. My glasses doctor advised I get a consult from dr. Kent Kirk. The previous ophthalmologist said I was not a good candidate. This eye center is amazing as well as the team. This is a family business and an icon in River Forest. I like the fact there are other family providers and they are proud of their profession. Dr Kent is a confident, smart, and caring guy. His credentials speak on their own and I like he is active in his field. I wanted to get some pictures in the office of the high tech machines, but I didn't know with the privacy issues. I recently had LASIK Surgery at Kirk Eye Center in River Forest. I was incredibly happy with the experience during the entire process. From the initial exams to the actual surgery to the follow up appointment, the entire staff was very professional, helpful and caring. The LASIK surgery itself was very quick. I felt very well prepped Dr. Kirk and the staff. The first couple hours post surgery were uncomfortable, which was expected, but after that it was pain free. A few hours after surgery I received a personal call from Dr. Kirk following up to see how I was doing....which meant a lot. The next day my vision was great and has been since I had the surgery. Cassandra started my grandfather's appointment. My grandpa is 92 she was so patient, kind, and compassionate. Her whole aura was positive. I work in the medical field as a RN so I don't leave many reviews because I believe anyone working in the medical field should be patient, kind, understanding, compassionate, listen, and take their time with their patients. However, Cassandra from the Kirk Eye Center in River Forest impressed me. Over the last few years my vision has gradually worsened. I could not read a street sign from 20 feet away i went to Kirk eye center to see if anything could be done to improve my vision. I was immediately impressed with the professionalism of the staff. After a very thorough it was determined that i should have cataract surgery on both eyes. Dr.Carter Kirk performed surgery on both of my eyes. My vision has improved dramatically . Now i have the ability to see clearly day and night. As a result i do not need glasses at all . I started out with Dr. Harold Q. Kirk in January of 1975 after I had a case of shingles in the right eye and have continued with the Kirk family of physicians since that time. In April 2017, I had cataract surgery and Dr. Scott put in a lens to correct the severe astigmatism in the right eye. I have the best vision ever and can't wait until the left eye can have the cataract surgery...it is not ready yet. I am so thrilled with the vision in my right eye and thought I would never be able to drive at night without the glare and halo around the headlights that the shingles brought on.
