I was a little apprehensive at first when I got here, since it was eerily quiet. The classical music radio station was playing, which unfortunately was playing some intense music and didn't help my initial perception of the vibe. The decor is definitely dated. It's your classic 90s weird patterned vinyl chairs. The optical store was closed. It is a huge office space. There were signs posted on the plexiglass at the reception desk, such that you could not see who you were talking to, so that was also weird. The technician and optometrist were really nice though. Even though my appointment started 10 minutes late, they were quick and efficient and I was able to get out of there within the hour. I paid for parking, since it was unclear whether the spots behind the building were available for customers to use. I don't know if I'd come back only because I'd rather be able to walk to appointments over driving, but would recommend in terms of how easy it was. read more

The only eye doctor I visit and recommend to all my friends. Yes, the office decor is dated and they regularly have a classical radio station playing music throughout the waiting area, but i'm more concerned with quality eye care. Overall, it's a beautiful office space even with the dated appearance. I have only ever been seen by Dr. Timothy McCarthy, and I couldn't be happier every time I visit. My first visit here was to treat an extremely persistent case of pink eye a few years ago. I was visiting my PCP for almost a month with no luck. After visiting Dr. McCarty, I was cleared up by the next day. Since then, I only visit this office for my regular eye exams, prescription updates, etc. He also treated a persistent chalazion in office that has yet to return in over a year, despite being warned it was possible it would return. Dr. McCarty is kind, compassionate, and you can tell he wants to make sure you're comfortable and have all questions answered by the time you leave. Thank you to Dr. Tim McCarthy for saving the day! I'd injured my eye this past Saturday and spent Sunday at Elmhurst Hospital's Immediate Care in Oak Park followed by a trip to Elmhurst's ER - also both very good experiences but didn't totally resolve my issue. The ER doctor called Dr. McCarthy - on his day off- and Dr. McCarthy consulted by phone with the ER doctor to recommend a more effective medication. Then Dr. McCarthy squeezed me in first thing this morning in his Oak Park clinic for an incredibly thorough exam and a recommendation for an additional medication and a follow up in a week. 3 great docs working together! I will definitely recommend Dr. Tim McCarthy to anyone needing a caring, patient, thorough and professional ophthalmologist! Staff was also super friendly and helpful. This is one shady business. I was told over the phone that the cost for a glasses prescription was $60. Once you get there, they charge you $60 up front. When I asked the person who actually tested for the glasses prescription if she was an optometrist, she answered yes, but later mentioned she was a "tech", not an optometrist. They then tack on and charge $150 for an "initial eye exam" (not including a retinal exam) by Dr. McCarthy. They billed my insurance which paid $50, and charged me another $50 a few weeks later. A total of $160 for a glasses prescription done by a tech! If they upcharge for a Glasses Prescription, I hate to think how they'd bill for a real eye problem. Steer clear!! There are better, honest places in the area --check out Kirk Eye Center or Family Eye Care, both in River Forest. read more

I get we all have bad days but I do not tolerate disrespect and condescending tones... we are all human being and we should all be treated with kindness... not going back there again. read more

My best friend, Alicia went here and had she asked me I could have warned her about the old guy who orders and performs all kinds of tests without asking and just runs up the cost. She did not pay and they RUINED HER CREDIT. STAY AWAY FROM FATHER AND SON. THEY ARE MEAN AND VINDICTIVE. We both reported these two to Medicare. read more

I took my 3.5 year old daughter here for a school required eye exam. The place is great. A bit of a wait even with an appointment. The staff is very friendly and courteous. The Dr was nice too. The only reason I didn't give a 5* is because of the wait and parking. Its really small (behind the building) and fully packed. I parked on the street in front and its a metered parking. I took my son for an eye exam here. The facility is pretty decent, the staff is very friendly and they actually move services along pretty fast. Be careful with parking. You will most likely be paying for it, even though they have parking in the back, it only fits about 6 cars. read more

Dr. Timothy McCarthy is such a great doctor. He has always gone out of his way when he has taken care of myself and my husband. On two occasions, he came to the office to see my husband and treat him for a foreign object removal on a Sunday and Thanksgiving day, when the office was obviously closed. He could have easily sent us to the Emergency room but he went out of his way to treat my husband. He is very personable and compassionate. Excellent staff! Everyone there was polite, helpful, and professional. They were able to fit me in as a first time patient for an emergency visit with practically no wait. They fit me in at the end of their day, and I didn't feel as though the process was being rushed or as if they were more concerned with going home than helping me. read more

so much for shopping local. order got screwed up and got stuck with the wrong type of lenses. no luck with negotiating return or a fix of any sort. if I wanted to replace the lenses I was on my own. Caveat emptor. Sad really.... read more
