We are building an ADU in our backyard and doing most of the work ourselves. However, it is attached to the house, which is stucco. We wanted the ADU to match the house and didn't trust our own skills to pull of this particular trade. Kirk Giordano and his son Jason were helpful even before we hired them to do the job. They came over to look at the project and gave us tips on how to complete the lath ourselves, which saved us a bundle. When we came across questions, still before we committed to hiring them, they were happy to clear up our concerns and help us complete the lath work correctly. They were very understanding of our budget and even though they were the highest quote we got they were ultimately the ones we went with because we felt so comfortable in their abilities and skills. At every point in the process they were willing, excited even, to share what was being done and how and more importantly why. This family and their crew clearly love what they do and take pride in the work. They respected our space and our time, work efficiently and cleaned up well after themselves. They also told us how to care for the stucco both during the install and curing and for the life of the product. When the ADU stucco was complete the crew took the leftover stucco material and walked around the house patching damage that already existed on the main house as an added bonus. We had what I like to refer to as a "hole to narnia" in our porch roof. Originally I was going to repair it myself but, life got busy with other business and there was just no time to shimmy up a ladder. Kirk came with his son to plaster the hole in the ceiling. A smidge more than initially quoted on the internet and he only takes cash *so* someone had to go to the ATM but, otherwise it was a pretty painless experience and the porch plaster was fixed 1-2 days after we initially contacted him. Only a month in, but, so far the job as held up well! It was a fairly small job, so, he seems open to those - which is a nice feature as a lot of the bay area rn is only taking larger projects. read more

I'd been watching the Giordano videos for a while before I happily realized they were local Bay Area guys. I emailed them about installing a new vent for a musty crawlspace in Oakland & got a reasonable quote (in-line with the other companies) & appt to get the work done the following week. Jason showed up on time & walked me through the whole process then took photos as he worked. The workmanship was excellent, the vent cutout nice and water-tight & the stucco blends in perfectly! Beautiful work. And it's no small thing to have a friendly contractor that clearly cares about doing a good job. I wish all contractors were like this! I repaired a structural issue on my house that required paper, lath and stucco on about a 5 ft by 10 ft area. I was impressed with Kirk's youtube videos, called him and he was available to come over immediately, gave me a price and said he could do it the next day. They did the job in about 6 hours and it looked good at first glance but over the next few days I noticed a number of cracks in the stucco. I also found that there was a big bulge in the stucco right where a steel gate was that prevented the gate from working (the new stucco was about 1 1/2 in. thick in that area instead of the 3/4 in. that was on the rest of the patch and the original stucco). I don't Have space or time to go into the whole story of me trying to get Kirk to fix the issues. Let me just say that it turned into a monster pain. He finally came and looked at it and mumbled the word "petty" and did some caulking on the cracks (said they were normal) and he scraped out a trough in the bulge for the gate jamb. The gate worked but it did not look good. His communication was very poor and he stopped returning emails and calls. I ended up grinding down a big area of stucco myself where the gate was and did a lot of caulking of cracks, one of which ran from the top of the patch to the bottom (5 ft). Oh, and it wasn't cheap: $2400 for 3 guys/ 6 hours. I love his videos; he's a great teacher and entertainer.. but I cannot recommend him. read more

I'm in sunny Florida. I paid a company to re-plaster an old block wall but soon after the work was cracking and coming off. I ended up removing the work they did and replacing it myself by watching Kirk Giordano Plastering Youtube video. The information was great, it worked, I wanted to say thanks....so, Thanks!!! After reading a few reviews from people who that never even used Kirk Giordano Plastering, but felt it appropriate to give a one star rating, I thought I'd give my two cents for that's worth. Giving a one star ratting, because you didn't get a response back from a company that doesn't even service your area, is petty at best. You may feel "they could have at least called me back!" Sure. Maybe they really are that busy that they can't call everyone back in areas they don't work? If you're a small family business that's super busy and you're getting a ton of calls from areas you don't service, you may not be able to call all of them back. That's not a crime or so egregious it in any way warrants a 1 star posting. Especially when 99% of the posts from people they actually did work for is 5 stars. Maybe they called back 8 of the 10 and your the ones they just couldn't respond to? Again not something deserving a one star review. Watch a few of their YouTube videos, read the reviews of people they actually DID work for. I think then, you'll get a true picture of the type of business and people they are. I met with the owner of Kirk Giordano Plastering Inc in Alameda. After reviewing their proposal and reading about this family business. I invested using their services to plaster /stucco my single-family house. Unfortunately, I have got some issues. The first one was a water infiltration going into my living room. And I have had to redo the ceiling. WHY? Because they screw with Flashing, which is a flat and thin material used to prevent water from entering the openings and cracks of a roof. Water was getting in the house instead. The other issue is related to the quality of the work. Stucco has degraded over time, and I have to redo it to fix the shoddy work. Here are some pictures. The worst experience is that this company is headquartered in Alameda, but they never returned my calls and emails for months or stopped by to check the shoddy work. I would not recommend this company. Yes, they do "nice" videos, but the reality is otherwise. Or, when working with this company ask for at least a 25-year warranty because stucco should be no degraded after 5 years. read more

As a general contractor I like to think I have a good rep with my clients. After hiring Giordano Plastering as a sub-contractor, I realized it takes effort to be considered worthy of praise from your clients. Yes , I know, kinda of a "duh" moment but I get good reviews as well. Point is, these guys were lightning quick to respond to my request for a quote. Extremely reasonable in price and fanatical in their work quality. Jason was intent on keeping water out of the structure and from the looks of it he was successful. Met Kirk on day of stucco and you could tell where Jason got it from. Both Giordano's I met were both old-school professionals in their trade albeit Jason might of inherited it. Thank You both for doing such a great job on my project. Even my client was impressed, glad you guy's don't do carpentry! I will call you as needed for more of the same and will always recommend you. I'm really disappointed that, despite all the outstanding reviews, I can't seem to get a response out of this company. One initial promise of a phone call never materialized and subsequent emails have all gone unanswered. The work needed is fairly minor and it's quite possible the company is busy with more substantial work. Recently I had a hot water pipe leak in my wall through the Stucco in the basement of my home. After taking care of the leak, Kirk came to replace the broken stucco on my wall base. Last fall I contacted Kirk after seeing his excellent, informed youtube videos about stucco. I had an ugly cinder block retaining wall in my front yard that I wanted to cover with a smooth coat of stucco. Smooth-finish stucco can crack if not done properly, and I felt Kirk's experience and knowledge would keep this from happening. I got other estimates and his was reasonable. Kirk is located outside my area so I had to have someone else do my house. I decided to have stucco placed on my home over the 8 x 16 concrete block from which it's constructed. I've watched many YouTube videos on stucco and Kirk's seemed to be the most complete and informative. So when my stucco guy started the job and was doing a different process than I had originally seen in the videos I was worried. In a minor panic I emailed Kirk with questions regarding the process and product my stucco guy was using, hoping he could put my mind at rest. After exchanging emails with him, I sent him my plans with highlighted areas of stucco that I needed done and my address blocked out.. He referred me to someone closer with a nice message, " FYI, i find some folks that are too secretive as not wishing to give names or addresses scares me to get involved." I informed Kirk that I use to send the plans wiith all my information until someone showed up un-announced and said they had an appointment with me and walked around my house with my wife and 2 and 4 year old when I was not at home... I was doing a complete remodel of a 1920 home in Kensington. Water had gotten under the old stucco in several places causing significant dry rot so the entire home had to be stripped, framing repaired, and re-stuccoed. Kirk and his team took over after another contractor (AY Engineering & Construction) had repaired the framing, Kirk's team weather proofed the home with a Tyvek stucco wrap layer followed by two layers of building paper, lathe, and a 4 coat smooth hacienda style stucco finish. I provided him with a photo of a southwestern style home with bullnosed corners and a smooth finish, he did an amazing job recreating exactly the look I was going for. WATCH THE KIRK'S VIDEOS BEFORE YOU GET QUOTES If you are a homeowner contemplating having a job done I would encourage you to watch Kirk's videos and go to school a bit on some the decision making involved in this trade. It is strange how 5 different people quoting a job will come up with 5 different ways of doing the job. Some of the ways will cause your stucco to fall off your house. Kirks color coating methodology is particularly valuable to learn about before getting quotes so you can ask the appropriate questions and understand the quote. Stucco lasts a lifetime if done correctly and Kirk has been doing this for over 30 years. If you watch the videos you can see the outcomes of the jobs and the approach taken. KIRK SAVED ME THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS In my particular application Kirk recommended that I not do a total color coat at this time and patch and paint. This advice was free of charge and it saved me thousands. DISCOUNT SALES CALL BACK NEGATIVE REVIEWS I have read Kirks negative reviews and I personally discount any negative reviews where Kirk and any other skilled tradesman actually did no work. The pattern here is clear to me and quite common. There is only one Kirk and hundreds of jobs going on at any one time for a particular area. Now take in to account that demand for jobs maybe somewhat lumpy so you get an inrush of inquiries at a particular time. Now take in to account that Kirk actually works on the jobs and has made commitments to homeowners who are his customers.
