First of all I want to make sure to say Elaina (spelling? Sry) was great! And I love the ring (wedding set) I bought for my wife, and so does she! Now, that being said, when I brought the two rings that I bought back to be soldered together, they held onto it for a week which was a very long time for my wife who had just received this ring as a gift. Would have made much more sense just to have me drop it off on the day of or the day before the jeweler was going to get to it. But they told me that the ring had to get in line! Additionally, when I was considering buying just the solitaire without the band, they told me they would knock $800 off because that's what the band was worth. I ended up buying the band and, in fact, now want a duplicate band for the other side of the solitaire. But now, just a few weeks later, a new duplicate ring is all of a sudden going to cost me $1600. And to top it off I was told that the reason it DOUBLED in price, going up in price by 200%, was because the price of gold has gone up. When in fact, this past month and this past year gold has dropped...approximately 8%. None of this makes sense... I guess they are like used car salesman after all. (not Elaina) Please don't make stuff up! Your customers aren't as stupid as you are. And the fact that this representative either lied or really doesn't know what the cost of gold is doing is very disturbing. So disappointed. Oh wait, there's more, now that the ring is soldered it has to be reappraised because apparently a two rings soldered together are worth a different amount than two rings that are separate. I'm not even upset about that, but the fact that a week was not enough time for them to solder it AND appraise it, because apparently it's a four hour process to re-appraise a ring that was just appraised a few weeks ago. read more

I went in very excited to check out Kirks as I have always heard great things. But days later I'm still extremely upset thinking about how poor my experience was with Elena. We came in with two ideas for jewelry and we were made to seem like idiots for thinking what we did. She did not offer any other suggestions or help. I led the conversation and other ideas just so it wasn't as uncomfortable. I don't think either of us have ever tried to work with someone as rude. Update: Brought my wedding ring in for some cleaning and polishing. Stone was broken by jeweler, but was replaced with an equal, if not better, stone at no charge! In order to keep the original stone my husband picked out a priceless piece, they fixed it, turned it into a pendant and put it on a beautiful chain for me! No Charge for this either! Shipped both FedEx overnight once they were done, as you may assume, at no charge! Now I have a beautiful everyday necklace and it matches my wedding ring. Very happy customer! I still need to fix the band a little, but was told to come by anytime or mail it back, and they will fix whatever is needed. Great, local jeweler that keeps the customer in mind. I've taken my engagement ring in twice, once for a loose prong that they fixed within a few days. Recently, I broke the whole ring (crack in the basket, stone fell out) and they took great care of us. They were upfront that it might take two weeks fo fix, so their jeweler could check the integrity of the band. It was ready in a week and one day, and the solder isn't even noticeable to the untrained eye. They do really good work, and offer to clean it any time I'm downtown. They were super helpful when my fiance went in to choose the stone and band. I'm so happy he decided to shop small, I doubt we'd get such positive and helpful treatment from a larger jewelry chain. read more

I have used Kirk's over the years. I have bought jewelry and stone from them and could not be happier with my purchases. I think their strength is having them custom make jewelry. I usually work with Sadie but have worked with Chris as well. Both are intelligent, thoughtful and listen to what I wanted. All of the pictures are of pieces they designed with me. The only warning is they are slow. If you need something done, give them ample time to design, mold, cast, create and finish any project. I strongly recommend using them!!!! I went into Kirks jewelry store on 3rd in Chico Ca, to get my Wedding ring fixed. I have had this ring for 35 years. The stone fell out, I was referred by a nearby business. I showed my ring the women at the counter and she said we don't work on sterling silver. In a haughty voice said the repair will cost more than the ring is worth. She so looked down her nose at my ring. She took it to the repair person in the back, after I told her we were referred. Came back with an outrageous repair price. These people are in a small town and can't afford this attitude. My ring is very precious to me and I don't like being being dismissed by a minimum wage clerk. read more

I got engaged last July and after a couple months one of the small diamonds came out. My fiancé had bought the ring at Lang Antiques in San Francisco, after they replaced the diamond I noticed that it did not resemble the other diamonds therefore my ring looked off to me. I decided to take it to Kirk's in Chico because it's local and had heard good things. They treated me so well! They told me they could replace the diamond and re-set it to help it resemble it's antique counterparts. After about a week they contacted me and told me they cleaned the diamond in a special solution and thought that it looked much better and that I may not need to replace it, upon inspection they were right! My wedding ring had a damaged prong. I was so worried the diamond would fall out so I took it in to get an estimate on time of repair and price. I was originally told it usually takes a week. When I explained I was headed on a vacation in 4 days and hoped to have the ring before then they made sure to get it done today! They had it done in less than 4 hours! I went in to get the rhodium recoated on my wedding set. The lady at the counter offered to polish the ring first, to see if maybe that's all it needed instead of a new coat. The other lady offered to polish my husband's ring too, and they did this for free! The store looks lovely and the service is attentive. They did do a good job bringing my design to life but failed miserably in the quality department. Foolishly we forgot to listen to the old adage that "not all that glitters is gold." My wedding ring was appraised for a LOT less than the purchase price we paid. I realize that the replacement value for insurance purposes always comes out significantly higher than the purchase price. However the discrepancy in this case was astronomically different and the diamond was NOT the quality that I supposedly was told I had purchased. My husband purchased my wedding ring from Kirk's before he heard about the owner's reputation as a businessman . Had we known, we never would have set foot in that store. Chico is still a quaint and small town and this affords us the luxury of asking around and learning about a business and the people who own it. Usually one makes a substantial investment when purchasing a piece of jewelry. Don't listen to me or anyone else. Ask Chico business owners and real estate brokers about Kirk Bengston's reputation and integrity. Such amazing service it blew me away! My engagement ring wasn't purchased here, but my fiance and I went in to get my finger appropriately sized. To be honest, we weren't going to get the ring resized here because we got a complimentary resizing through Brilliant Earth. That being said, without even mentioning that, the woman who helped us gave us an excellent recommendation for the best size, and said that the resizing would be complimentary. I was surprised in the best way, and she said they could have the ring done on Saturday (we went in on Tuesday). I mentioned that we would be out of town, but that I didn't mind picking it up Monday. The woman (I wish I knew your name, you angel!) said that they couldn't have that and that she would make sure it was done Friday by the time I left town. To my surprise, they got it done Thursday. Just purchased my fiancés wedding band here and I am so pleased with everything, from the customer service to the quality and design of the ring. I love that you can go in and pick your favorite aspects from several of the rings and design something yourself. My fiancé wanted something unique and that is exactly what I was able to give him. I was nervous about the design coming out the way I pictured it but when I received it this week it was better than I could have imagined, it fits perfect and he absolutely loves it. The staff was extremely helpful and nice. They estimated 4 weeks for the ring to be done and it took just that. I am so happy with the quality. Needed to have the clasp replaced on a very precious (to me) gold necklace and stopped by Kirks to not only give a local jeweler my business, but to see how they worked, treated customers, and make sure they were reliable if I were to patronize them in the future. The entire experience was one of the worst I've ever had with a jeweler. The young lady that assisted me, Cameron I think, made me feel like a fool for asking if she was going to measure my 18k gold necklace before she took it out of my site for a week or so to replace the clasp. She did so only to appease me and while doing so said "we're not in the habit of taking parts of people's jewelry". But you know what? That's exactly what they did. The necklace was picked up and paid for and they decided to retain the old clasp. When I called to let them know it wasn't with the necklace there was no apology, nor was there any acknowledgement they did anything in error when they forced me to come back to pick it up. I would never, ever recommend this jeweler for any services and I certainly will never return to them again. Just rude and very unprofessional! And expensive on top of all of the above. read more
