False Representation.... Get your cost in writing before you hire Nathan Kirkwood. He comes across as a religious honest guy, pleasant and friendly. My recent experience has been all but honest, it was deceitful. I hired and trusted Mr. Kirkwood to do my 2008 taxes, as my tax extension for my 2008 taxes were now due. I met with Mr. Nathan Kirkwood and in the beginning felt very good about my decision to hire him. A strange thing happened when I left the building and walked to my car, which was parked directly in front of property. A gentleman approached me at my car; he asked... did you get your cost? My cost I thought, what is this gentleman talking about. He asked again, did you get your cost from Mr. Kirkwood? I asked him... who are you? I work for Kirkwood he said. I had not noticed at the time, that he indeed worked for Mr. Kirkwood. I did see him sitting at a desk in Mr. Kirkwood's office. I told him Mr. Kirkwood had not given me a cost yet. He than said to me, you need to know what you are being charged to have your taxes done. The gentleman said, he asked Mr. Kirkwood about my charges and Mr. Kirkwood said he had forgot to give them to me. The gentleman said to me, go back in and ask for your cost, you should know this ahead of time. So I went back into the office and asked Mr. Kirkwood for my cost. Mr., Kirkwood did not have an amount for me yet, he said he would call me but I indeed had to call him after a few days of not hearing from him. Finally we discussed what it would cost and came to a charge not to exceed $280.00. Mr. Kirkwood said to me, if I waited a month it would be a lot less. He said because I needed my taxes done in a few days, and on such short notice, he could not charge less. So I agreed if the charges were not to exceed $280.00. Well, time when by and my taxes were due in 3-4 days. Mr. Kirkwood decided he could not complete my taxes in time to meet the deadline. So, they would be late by a week or so. Here I am thinking my taxes were being done. Weeks went by and no taxes. I left messages but no return call. Finally I receive a call just a few days ago, (almost 4 weeks later) Mr. Kirkwood calls me to give me my charges, charges that we had already agreed upon. He tells me he has reviewed my taxes, now almost a month later, and said to me, he could not do my taxes for no less than $585.00, almost $600.00. What! I thought, we already agreed on a cost not to exceed $280.00. No, he said, I just gave you an estimate. What a liar... all this time and he knew I badly needed my taxes done. Thinking back, now realized why that employee came forward and said what he said. He tried to warn me, he obviously new there was a pattern of this. So this put me in a bad situation to find another accountant, or just go to H&R Block. I did not allow Mr., Kirkwood to take advantage of me and the fact he knew how badly I needed my taxes. When I told him I would pick my paperwork up, he had no remorse. Very pleasantly said, I will have them ready for you to pick up. When I went into his office, it was like a ghost town; normally 2-3 people were at their desk. It was thought they all ran to the backroom and one remains to deal with an unhappy customer. My paperwork set on the corner of a desk, no comments, and no apology, just my paperwork. I stressed to the one person at her desk that I was very disappointment in the services, she made no comment. Than later as I spoke to two other people, they inform me of similar situations with Kirkwood. So beware of the pleasant smile, friendly personality and all the religious talk about God. What a big front to hide behind God's word. read more
