I have been using Kevin Smith State Farm insurance for over 10 years now for my local small business (sole proprietorship). Rose is great about getting me the COIs needed for my photography events which different venues require. There was a short period of time (maybe a month or two) where they were apologetically short staffed and training new people at which point they asked me to give them slightly more advanced notice for COI documents. This was not a big deal I just had to plan ahead a bit more than usual. But I have noticed since then they are extremely fast at getting me documents ASAP and very responsive as they always have been. Would recommend! read more

after 15 years of life insurance policy, and them collecting money on Autlpay- no issues- Unfortunately once an issue actually came up- they were NOT on top of it- did not return calls when they said they would and had me thinking my brand new car was fully insured when the whole time (6 months) somehow it wasn't, and no one knew why!??? unacceptable for such a name brand insurance company. I will be going elsewhere and you should to, god forbid you think your insured later to find out they never let you know you weren't. read more

When my wife and I first moved in together, we decided there were many things we needed to consolidate. And, like an apartment, it's always best to start from scratch. We individually carried Renters' and Auto insurance with State Farm so we left our individual policies and merged. In support of our neighborhood, we decided on Kevin Smith. Vivacious. Eager. Young. City guy. We appreciated his youthfulness on our first meeting and we wanted to support local businesses. After getting the initial policy set up, we figured we were golden. But then making changes became a bit of a hassle. For example: - we wanted to meet with him to discuss whether we had the right policy. We set up a meeting forr him, cleared our schedule and showed up at 6p. When we got there, he was nowhere to be found. One of his office staff called to contact him and he was downstate. Didn't we have an appointment? - when we got the rings, we wanted to add a rider. After three tries we finally got it added to the policy but it was tedious and unnecessary. - we recently suffered a flood, which is not uncommon in this part of Chicago especially being so close to the River. We were never advised of flood protection for our basement storage unit and we're out a pretty penny. In all, the one-star review is a combination of bad follow through on a seemingly wonderful service. When we were going through the flood issue, we had to contact *him* to follow up. We contacted him originally and he's been CCd on all communications, but NOTHING from him to follow up. We want to beleive that State Farm has done right by us -- combined we've been with them nearly 30 years -- but I would strongly recommend seeking the assistance of another agent. Kevin and his office seem to be overextended and underinformed about policies and, in my opinion, doesn't have a pulse on needs that are painfully obvious to us now. read more

We switched to Kevin Smith from another State Farm agent after buying our two-flat in 2016, on the advice of our mortgage broker, and we have had nothing but positive experiences since. The staff is responsive and helpful (I usually speak with Felicia and Rose), and if they can't answer my question on the spot, get back to me in a timely manner. We haven't had to involve them too much in anything until the past two weeks or so, but they have been on top of everything we are dealing with right now, both car and house related, calling me to follow up on claims and making sure the contractors they recommended are working out. Kevin has been my State Farm Agent for over a year now and he's without question the best agent I've ever come in contact with. My family and I have been State Farm customers for over 25 years. In that time we've had several agents. Most ran nice agencies but none like Kevin. Kevin is the most accessible agent I've ever had. I doubt there is a time of day when he would not answer his phone. His job description goes beyond the scope of your traditional agent. He's interested in helping you advance your life while preserving the one that you've built for yourself. I kind of stumbled into Kevin Smith's State Farm office after another insurance company raised my homeowner's premium by 50% in one year (and there hadn't been a claim on it since 1999). I'd seen Kevin's signage in the neighborhood, and figured, "well, why not?" Why not indeed! Kevin and his team are young, which was initially disconcerting. But they know their stuff, and they have way more energy and engagement than all of our previous agents put together. In short, they are not tired of insurance. They treat your business like it's novel and exciting, and they put a real effort into service. After our meeting at Kevin's office, we moved our HH and car insurance over to State Farm, and we immediately realized a savings in our premiums. And, wouldn't you know, my car got rear-ended and then we had damage to our roof and to our car in severe weather. State Farm dealt with it all so quickly and easily. When the car got weather damaged, I left Kevin a message on Facebook late that night (kind of jokingly), and his office called me at 8:30 the next morning. While some of our friends were complaining about not even being able to get in to see an adjuster, we'd had our claims paid and our car's body work done. I recommend Kevin and his team HIGHLY. I have to admit, I was nervous about filing an insurance claim because of horror stories, but I have to say, I had a really great experience with State Farm. And in the end, anyone can collect your check, but it's what goes down when you actually have to file a claim that matters. I had damage to my car after the summer/2011 hail storm and I decided to call and find out about my options. The people at Kevin Smith's agency put me in touch with the State Farm Catastrophe unit that had been set up in Chicago as a result of the storm. I went down to the temporary office on South Kedzie and it took about 20 minutes. They declared my car a total loss, gave me a very fair settlement and the option to keep my car (which I did). The whole process went very smoothly and the people on the catastrophe team were helpful and friendly. I called my local office to adjust my policy after the settlement and the agent was able to change everything over the phone in 5 minutes and explain exactly what would change. Overall, totally impressed with the coordination between the local office and national catastrophe team (couldn't find a yelp page for them specifically). read more

I really don't think there is another agency who takes care of their clients the way they do. Recently I had an water issue in my condo and although overall it was not a large issue as compared to others, I was treated like a top priority client. First the place looks amazing, like no other insurance office I have ever seen. I was greeted by an incredibly beautiful woman with the eyes of an angel. Looking around it was like a requirement to be good looking to work here. Anyway as I was explaining what it was I needed they quoted me a great price and also told me how little it was to add my renters insurance. I was all set with what I came in for but had to do the Discount Double Check move before we finished up. With a laugh and a quick check I was set up with everything I wanted/needed. Seriously, Kevin Smith Agency? Did someone from your office really just call to demand I spend 30-45 minutes in your office so you can try to sell me boat, RV, or submarine insurance? Did you really try to pass it off as an "annual insurance review," like I wouldn't realize it was a live infomercial? Do you really have so little respect for the intelligence and time of your existing clients? And how many times have you mailed me sales pitches in the last month? Four? Of all the companies I pay on a regular basis, yours is by far the most grating. Even Comcast, with their terrible reputation for customer service, doesn't call me every other week begging for a cable contract. They get it, I don't own a TV, so I'll stick with just internet. When will you get it? I don't own a car, an RV, a boat, a moat, a goat... and I don't want any more insurance than I already have!
