I've been using Russell to do my taxes for at least 7 or 8 years now and he is fantastic. He's helped me with my personal taxes and business taxes. For so many years I was trying to do my own taxes or use online services like TurboTax which claim to get you the best returns but really don't. After the advice of a friend I went to Russell and he helped show me how I was losing out on potential deductions I didn't even know existed. I've even had last minute requests and he still manages to make time for me when I know he is dead busy with a million other things. He's been an enormous help over the years and I wouldn't trust tax finances to anyone else. I'd highly recommend him to anyone but remember to book early. Let me say first, that I haven't ever written a negative review on Yelp. I actually created my account years ago because I loved my dentist and wanted to share the wealth. With that being said, I'd like to share this in hopes that it can spare others... I have used Ted/Russel for my taxes for three years (this being my last) and that was my mistake. These guys used to do business as Wycliff and Associates and were recommended by a friend of mine. The first year I used them I had no problem. Last year they didn't have any appointments available so they asked me to mail in my information and said they would do it by mail and get back to me. After a couple of months I started calling and leaving messages and never heard anything back. I never received a call back from them. Four months after I sent them all my receipts and forms I got the tax return in the mail. Come to find out, one of the partners died unexpectedly last year so I decided to cut them some slack. This year I went to RIII at the beginning of February and had my taxes filed with Ted. After a three weeks I started checking the Where's My Refund IRS site and there was no record of them receiving my return. Seeing that everyone I knew who did not use RIII getting their returns back within two weeks, I called to see what was going on. No returned call. I then called the IRS and they said they had not received a return for me. When I inquired with others who used RIII as well, they said they were having the same problem. I called mulitple times over the following couple of weeks....again, no returned call. Finally, on the RIII Facebook page, Russel posted because so many people had been trying to find out what was going on. He offered numerous excuses (including the ice storm in Atlanta, which he said was slowing down returns), but took no responsibility and offered no apologies. Not only did he not take responsibility for the delay, but he said on the RIII Facebook page that people who were upset shouldn't be writing checks for which they did not have money and shouldn't be relying on their refund to get them to their next paycheck. So insulting. I finally received my state refund two days ago (five weeks after my appointment) and then my federal refund yesterday. If it was the IRS "running behind" then I should have gotten my state refund weeks ago and I doubt I would have gotten the two returns within hours of one another. So, be warned. These guys are completely unprofessional. If there were zero stars I'd give them that. If I could have the hours of my life I wasted tracking down my taxes with these guys and writing this review then I'd happily take THAT refund. Hopefully this review can spare you the trouble. read more

UPDATE: after spending 4 hours waiting, then another 90 minutes of research at the IRS Office it's been confirmed that my refund was diverted to an account other than the one listed on the return the I signed. The routing and account #s on the electronic filing was completely different. Its now going to the US Treasury Criminal Investigations. INITIAL POST: After reading the two reviews above, I realize I could almost cut & paste them as mine. My experience had been the same. I used Wickcliff & Assoc since they opened, and before that Chicago Tax Service. Until passing away late last year Paul has done my taxes since 1996 with zero issues or complaints. Because they had all my info I thought I'd continue on with Russell. HUGELY disappointing would be an understatement. My return was completed on Jan 30th. Today is March 26 and I have no return yet. I emailed and called Russell many times with only one dismissive return email early on. I told him that I didn't care when I received it, but I wanted to see that the IRS has received my return. Well, I kinda do care when I receive it because it's my money. The problem I'm having now is that it finally shows on IRS website that it was deposited into my account last week, but there is NO deposit showing in my account. I, too, have had terrible experiences with this individual's tax services. Please note that I've been using this person's accounting services for over a decade and had given him an enormous amount of business over the years. In spite of this, I feel I cannot do so any longer due to some very unprofessional experiences over the past several years. Several years ago, this accountant transcribed my bank account numbers incorrectly for the electronic filing, causing my refund to be bounced back to the IRS. I didn't receive my refund for months because of this. Although I certainly could've understood this mistake (mistakes happen! It's okay!), I was offered no apology. Further, I could never get this person to return a phone call or email--EVER. Even more disconcerting was the fact that a dozen of my coworkers who used his services as well reported to me that they had witnessed him saying terrible things about me in his office! Although I found his actions/behavior to be highly unprofessional (and false!), I continued to use his services because of his admitted knowledge of my field of work when it came to tax preparation. THIS year, however, countless clients (including myself!) experienced something that can only be described as EXCEEDINGLY puzzling: he failed to file any of our tax returns for weeks and weeks (for many of us, up to 6 weeks post-appointment!). Typically, in the past, our returns were immediately electronically filed (or at least the next business day). This year, however, they failed to be filed at ALL. They were never received by the IRS. Clients reported that this accountant blamed everything from "icy weather/storms in Atlanta" to "government shutdowns" (???) as reasons for the delays. This accountant once again failed to return ANY phone calls OR emails from clients with regards to our missing claims. Only after clients began to barrage him on social media outlets (Facebook, in this case) with regards to why their returns hadn't been filed even a month after their appointments did he quickly state that the "problems" at the IRS had been resolved and the returns had been filed. He subsequently began to blame clients for "spending their refunds before they were received" on his own Facebook page. What? Our collective issue as paying clients was that our claims had not been submitted to the IRS, period. I finally received my return last month, but I am at a loss as to why this accountant engaged in such unprofessional activity. Please note that there were NO reported delays in receiving returns this year from coworkers who did not use his services. This is deeply troubling. In summation, I would not recommend this person's tax services to anyone. There are too many accountants who will not engage in such unprofessional behavior. Ironically, the words "accountability" and "accountant" are oddly similar. This accountant refuses to accept any such accountability or blame for his actions (or inactions, in this case). If he were willing to do so, I think many of his legions of disgruntled clients would feel differently. It is very unfortunate. read more

This is a really tough review to write. Wickliff & Associates helped me with a tax issue a few years back. Everything was great and I was so happy to feel like I had found a company that I could trust and use for the next 20 -30 years (there is something really comforting about that). When RIII started - I switched over immediately without second thought. As a huge supporter of small business / start-ups, I went out of my way to tell my friends about them. With grad school on the way, I made my appointment early to get my refund early. There was this whole pin issue (which was not disclosed ahead of time). And I totally get issues happen...but how RIII responded was not okay. There was no proactive outreach, no apologies and some very bizarre posts were made on facebook. I didn't feel like there was a great deal of transparency with the issue or a sense of responsibility to their customers. And with that, comes a loss of trust.... I clicked on the filtered review - to see the owners post. And was again shocked to see comments about using multiple lawyers to sue their former client against slander. Now I am confident I made the right choice to switch companies. There is just something off. For the sake of the company, I hope an investment in public relations / customer service is made over lawyers. read more

This was my fifth year using Russell and I was typically happy with my refunds, if not his high fees. However, this year was beyond frustrating. I made my appointment nice and early, and before exiting, I asked how long until my refund. He said about 4 weeks since the Atlanta office was on a backlog due to the ice storm in January. I can accept that. Except, that my boyfriend who used turbo tax got his refund in a week and a half. And in fact, anyone who used this office was waiting over a month to even see their claims submitted, and those who went elsewhere or filed on their own, waited two weeks on average. Even more frustrating was the condescending tone being used on the Facebook page. He said people shouldn't spend money before they receive it, but there was no problems taking my $200. It was also written that "due to privacy, they would not divulge other clients information" which I would expect, except I heard all sorts of gossip from my tax preparer. Also, my state refund and my federal came the same day, so it did not seem like the problem was with the Atlanta office. Basically, be honest and not this shady, blame others nonsense. If he would have taken responsibility and not been snarky, I might have considered coming back. read more
