I'd been staring at this place as I pass it on my drive home from work every day, and I had never tried it, but my coworker insisted and WOW. Everything I had was delicious. The vegan samosa didn't even make it home, I ate it in the car. The chicken and rice were SO delicious, and then I curled up on the couch with the Somali Tea with milk. The portion sizes were enough that I was able to bring some chicken and rice for lunch the next day, and it was just as delicious then. Kismayo is a welcome addition to the food scene in Burlington. In fact it is the only Somali restaurant in Vermont. The food is fresh, affordable and delicious. The samosa I had was meat filled and well spiced. Different than Indian samosas which are more potato filled. The chicken and rice dish left me satisfied and wanting to come back. We tried this place for the first time tonight, and it was fantastic! The staff was incredibly friendly and fast, and the food was delicious. We even got a samosa to try on the house, and also bottles of water! The principal dinner dishes are either pasta or rice with beef, chicken, or goat meat. I tried the Somali rice with chicken, and it was excellent. Very flavorful rice and delicious chicken. Served with a salad on the side. We also got a side of mahamri, which are pieces of sweet bread that are really delicious with Somali tea. They were just sweet enough and tasted vaguely like sweet sourdough - so good!! read more

I found Kismayo Kitchen because it was the only place open on Christmas in Burlington. I'm in Montreal and my son is in Burlington and we weren't able to be together for Christmas. His fridge broke down and he had little food and I wanted to get him something good to eat, as it was bad enough we would have to be apart. So, I called Kismayo Kitchen and spoke to the nicest gentleman, Ahmed Omar, the owner. My son received the best sandwich that day and since then he asked me to order for him again today. Spoke to Mr. Omar, who remembered me and my son, and he was just such a beautiful person. My wife and I kept driving by Kismayo and finally stopped in. Friends... oh my God. The food is heavenly. I ordered two beef samosas and the coconut chicken stew with rice, my wife ordered goat with rice. Now... I don't eat goat, I refuse to eat goat...friends.... I couldn't stop eating the goat! Everything we ate was absolutely INCREDIBLE!!! The chef behind the counter was fantastic. Customer service off the charts. A chef who loves the people who come to visit! Just had their cheesesteak for the first time and I could cry it was so good! I've been in this town for 5 years and hadn't had a decent cheesesteak til now, and this is far better than decent. This could hang in Philly no problem, perfect balance of steak, cheese, peppers, onion, I think a hint of very warm spices. Sometimes ordering takeout from a restaurant can be disappointing because the food just doesn't taste the same as it does when you eat in, but not here! Everything was fresh and delicious. Very generous portions (I had leftovers for lunch the next day) and reasonably priced. We tried the Somali rice with chicken, Somali rice with goat, beef samosas, and the fried doughnut-type thing. I've had Somali food many times, and I've even been to Somalia, so I can confidently say that this place has really good and authentic Somali food. I'm from near Philly, so I had to try the cheesesteak. I also had a beef somosa. The somosa was tasty and the dough was nice and light, not too thick or tough. As for the Philly, it was spot on perfect. They're using excellent meat and then it is presented in a fresh, soft bun. The meat is juicy and flavorful.
