Let me start by saying that all of the staff were lovely. I had my baby with me and everyone was so kind to her. They've also got highchairs which always makes my life a whole lot easier. Awesome Patio! 2nd time in. 1st time server was awesome! This time the server was kind of a smart ass (in a non-smiling rude way and not a funny haha way) when I asked how big a cup of soup is and how big their bowls of soup are ("the cups are the size of a cup and the bowls are a size of a bowl"). My friend and I were looking for a spot with healthy menu choices for our Sunday lunch date, and I'm definitely glad we decided on Kiss Cafe! Let me start with a major winning point for me - their coffee and friendly servers! They serve Herkimer coffee, which has become one of my favorites in the Seattle area, so I was definitely a happy camper with their choice of coffee and I was definitely pleased with the service overall. I ordered their "Hal's Gal" spinach wrap with a side of tomato basil soup without the ranch and my friend ordered their turkey pesto sandwich with a side of chips. Overall, I would say we were both really pleased with our meals. Let me touch on the most memorable parts of our meal: the pesto was very flavorful, their tomato basil soup is the perfect amount of creamy and chunky with a delicious taste, and we felt satisfied with the amount of food we ate without feeling too full or gross afterwards. Why not 5 stars? While my wrap was tasty, I felt like something was missing. Maybe it was my fault for removing the ranch, but I felt that there was something to be left desired for my taste buds. Overall, we had a great meal, and I'm happy to come back and try their other options, especially because their breakfast options looked very tasty. Yes, this place is kinda special with a relaxed, industrial vibe. It's dog-friendly - don't be surprised to see a mutt behind the counter!? We saw a dog ouside just cool his paws in the drinking bowl and splash around making mess. It's a dog's life! If you are a local you can join the beer club - you have to drink x beers from the selection and then you get a members' beer mug as your badge of honor. The beer selection rotates regularly. This was another Yelp find. I wanted an early lunch somewhere in Ballard that would please both vegetarians and omnivores alike. Kiss Cafe's menu appeared to fit the bill so we headed on over. They were packed when we got there a little after 11, but we managed to snag a seat at the bar where we got to see the entire beer selection (of which there are many!). Even though we were sitting right next to the bar exit point it took about 15 min. for us to be acknowledged (ouch). The waitress was friendly and helpful when it came to selecting a beverage. I asked about a particular beer and she told me that it was the one beer she wouldn't recommend - I appreciate her candor! I was happy that I went with her recommendation - some sort of vanilla infused beer - which was seriously awesome. I liked that they give you a jar of pickles to snack on, definitely haven't seen that before! The Tom & Jerry sandwich I ordered was great! When they said there was spinach on it they weren't kidding, there was a fantastic amount of spinach packed in along with the other veggies - the kind of sandwich that I'd make at home! The speed of service never improved, even after the rush was gone, which is why I give Kiss Cafe 3.5 stars. When I was ready to leave I actually had to ask another waitress for the check because mine was absent. While they accept cards they'll charge you a fee for using them so bring cash. Been coming here for years but, as with many places these days, hiring and retention challenges seem to have brought unwelcome changes and our family has struck this one off the list. We went in recently, ordered lunch, and then waited. After a half hour we asked about our order and received the bizarre news that it was never submitted. Ironically, to avoid just that kind of nonsense, I had tried to call in our order ahead, as I have done 100 times before. The new kid said that wasn't allowed. Because I had meetings the rest of the day, I had to go without lunch. It's fine to have Summer interns, but don't let them run the place. Great sandwiches, beer, and atmosphere. We visit Kiss Cafe often on Thursdays in the fall to watch the football games and enjoy some tasty sandwiches and beer. The vibe inside is chill and eclectic and the staff is always attentive. Plenty of options for food (sandwiches, salads, soups, and breakfast all day). They provide a jar of pickles for the table and when you receive your bill they throw in a Hershey kiss. If you're brave, you can join their Ballard Drinking Team. You start with a list of 100 beers, and if you can complete the list within a year, you get celebrated with a ringing bell, cheers from other patrons, and an engraved drinking glass to use for all your future beer consumption. Picked up a couple of French Dips today for lunch. I had not been in before and was surprised at the compact interior. Very warm and comfortable space. Our meals were well-portioned, fresh and delicious, but it was the hot sauce on the table that sealed the deal. We asked our server about it and he told us the Secret Aardvark Trading Company out of Portland does not sell their goods commercially, which is unfortunate because it is really great (like, road trip-worthy great)! Ooooooouuu lawd!!!! I love me some sandwiches and oh man, foooooor reeeaaaaals. Why did I never know about this place? I've been back in WA for almost 3 years and just discovered this place. Better late than never. The homemade pickles are to die for; crunchy, bomb taste, and straight from the jar. The selection of salads, sandwiches, and wraps are cool. I am def coming back to try another sandwich for sure. The side selections are cool; chips, fruit, or salad. They offer Tim's Cascades chips, which I loooooooooove! The establishment is small, however it works. I love the reusable napkins as hankies and the reusable glass when you want a beer. They have TVs, which can be entertaining and useful when you want to have a break from talking to your company you're with. You gotta come here and check it out! I hate to give this place a two star review because I love the food here but I received THE worst service earlier this afternoon. I don't know if I'll ever come back because of the way this waitress treated my grandparents and I today! I didn't catch her name but she has dirty blonde hair and glasses. She was VERY rude to us -- even to my sweet old grandma! One example was when my grandma asked what "coppa" was and the lady literally just said "meat?" like we were stupid for asking. Next, my grandma ordered a whole sandwich with soup but the waitress asked if she wanted the combo deal with a half sandwich instead, so my grandma asked what the difference was (as in price). And again, she was super condescending and just said "uh ones a half sandwich and ones a whole?" WELL OBVIOUSLY. She was like this the entire visit! I couldn't believe it. Anyway, I am very disappointed by how rudely we were treated today. So sad because I really did love this place! read more

I have to admit, when I thought of a place named Kiss Cafe, I didn't picture a pseudo-sports bar feel with a huge beer selection. But, I'm happy to say, I was not disappointed at all. Kiss Cafe's location is also ideal for exploring the local shops and sites. I had the Tree Hugger wrap, which is, of course, Vegan (Kiss Cafe is not a Vegan restaurant) and loaded with delicious, fresh veggies, hummus, and a side fruit salad. After passing by Kiss Cafe on an almost daily basis when I used to rock climb at Stone Gardens, I finally went in the other day with the girlfriend in search of a tasty sandwich, and go figure, I found one! Veggie sandwich was decent, the Monte Cristo was.... out. of. this. world. I can't remember the details (mus have been months ago), but etched in my memory is a sweet, salty, savory, cripsy mouthful of deliciousness, and my face smothered in strawberry jam and a variety of cheeses. Great beer selection here, micro, craft, ultra-craft, inotherwords, out of my price range! Awesome place to try a new brew, for sure. One day, my husband and I took our dog for a long walk and on the way back, he wanted a beverage, so we stopped in. They are dog friendly, so we could bring the dog inside the cafe. It was cramped (not much space between table), super casual, with a very American menu. The food was high quality, the portions were adequate, and I left surprisingly pleased with my experience there. Being married to a beer lover, I was first brought to Kiss Cafe by my husband. Kiss Cafe is a small establishment with good sandwiches & wraps and LOTS of beer. Local beer lovers join the Ballard Drinking Team by trying to drink 100 different beers in a year. If you complete the task you get your own glass and shelf spot on the wall. Pretty cool idea. As someone who doesn't like beer I still love going to Kiss Cafe. The place is really laid back, has a friendly staff, and decent food. A plus for us is that it is dog friendly. We bring our dog regularly, so you can expect to see a dog or two if you visit. Oh and the Crack Pretzel is a must! Super cute place. Took my boyfriend here for his birthday and we got breakfast. I love that you can seat yourself. They give you cucumber water. I ordered a Mimosa and it was soooo good. I got the battered Elvis and my boyfriend got the Monte cristo and we both happy with our meals. They came with fresh fruit. I ate every last bite. They also allow dogs which was so cool. I did knock off one star because I'm mentioned it was his birthday and most places offer or at least give the birthday guest a discount or a little something. No biggie though. I was at The Ballard Locks last Saturday and decided to walk back down Market St toward Ballard downtown. Was walking by Kiss an noticed some people drinking beers in extra tall frosted beer glasses. I took about 5 more steps and said, "let's drink a beer!" and walked back sat just inside the door. I looked down and a dog was lounging on the concrete floor soaking up the chilling effect as it was in the 80's outside. They don't have a beer tap, but a large selection of beers in 12oz bottles. Really quite a big selection. After the first beer I finally figured out the dog must own this place as his picture is on the wall. This is a nice local place where I'm sure over time you'd be a regular. They even serve cheetoes with sandwiches! Got a love a place where you can get cheetoes or fresh popcorn. read more

I am sitting in Kiss right now, and just a few minutes ago I scraped my plate for the last little tidbits of the Fruit & Goat Cheese salad. It was so good I briefly considered ordering and eating a second helping, but there were two reasons I didn't: it would be gluttonous, and the price of the salad is ten dollars. The cafe has a considerable menu, especially considering they have no fryer (side note: I was told they have no fryer because the proprietor does not eat fried food - this is frankly not good economic logic, and for a place that has such a distinct focus on beer it seems downright foolish, but when you own a business you can of course make choices that are not profitable, so there you go.) Tim's Chips are served instead of fries, and healthier (and tastier) substitutions are available. The music appears to be a custom job - perhaps the shuffling of the owner's considerable collection - and I found it highly enjoyable. More importantly, it is not too loud. It isn't quiet, but I could easily carry on a conversation with the staff, even across the not-very-large room. The espresso shots were good, and well represented as a product of a boutique Phinny Ridge roaster. It is worth noting that this is a small place - about twenty seats, including the bar - so it isn't well suited to large groups without calling ahead. read more

Very cool spot! Went here for the first time last night to meet up with a friend who just began going there as well, and I think we will make it a tradition to go there every time I go hang out in this neighborhood. The place is cozy, the staff is very friendly, seems like you can bring your dog in since there were two hanging out with their owners while we were there, they have free wifi, and lots 'n lots 'n..I mean...lots of beer to choose from! They have this thing called the Ballard Drinking Team and you can get your own paper that you keep there and they mark off which beers you have tried. You have one year to drink 99 of them and if you succeed, you get your own beer glass, discounts, and you can drink their Member Only beers. How cool is that? We also ordered the big meat and cheese platter as a snack. It was quite tasty. It comes with two kinds of meat, three types of cheese, black olives, mushrooms, and a whole clove of roasted garlic, along with crackers. The garlic was SO good! What I also liked about this place is that they give you a chocolate hershey kiss with your check and the napkins are cool black bandanas. I wondered why is was called KISS cafe..and turns out...Keep It Simple Sucka! Awesome. 4.5 stars! I know this is first off a beer bar but I have to start by saying how happy I am to find somewhere that serves a good entree salad that is not a Cobb or Caesar!! I'm in love with their berry and goat cheese salad! It is my go to food. However the rest of their menu is great as well! I've tried many of their sandwiches and have yet to be disappointed. My fab sandwich is the Porky's Revenge! Ok so back to the beer! What a selection!! They have a few on tap but the real draw is the hundred or so varieties of canned and bottled beers and ciders!! The staff can help point you in the right direction if youre overwhelmed by the selection! And if you're up for a challenge you can start one of their beer lists!
