I don't have a gluten allergy, but my travel companion does, and we ended up coming here every morning during our stay in Montréal. The croissants are incredibly buttery (made with margarine, so they're dairy-free too), light, and perfectly flaky. We also tried a few other pastries like the chocolatine and danishes, which were just as delicious. They sell their pastries frozen as well, and I bought half a dozen croissants to bring back home. The family who runs Parc sans Gluten was warm and welcoming each time we visited. This place is a true gem and whether you're gluten-free or not, it's worth a stop.

It may sound impossible to accomplish in one kitchen, but they've done it exceptionally well! We tried three of 6. Each of us was very happy. The servers have mastered Continental service, it's a pleasure to dine there. We inquired how large the small pitcher of sangria was? Enough for two people? She said it would give us about two glasses a piece. Perfect. It wasn't all fruit or cheap wine. If we lived in the neighborhood, we'd be there a few times a month until we tried everything on the menu; then start all over again! It has a certain romantic atmosphere to it; it's also an excellent value compared to some of the places we ate. That is how impressed we were. The food is superb, just enough so there's room for dessert and coffee if you like. One minor complaint: washrooms in most restaurants are either 40 feet above the main floor or below it. =(

We ordered the "Le Joe Bagel", which was the one on Netflix, a spicy everything bagel (new), a maple apple bagel, and a rosemary & sea salt bagel with jalapeno cream cheese (new). I would say that the "Le Joe Bagel" was a little sweet for us since it had fig in it. The spicy everything bagel was good and the jalapeno cream cheese had a good kick to it too. But my favorite was the maple apple bagel since it was just simple and nice. The bagel itself looks smaller than a New York bagel but it's more dense and gives a good pretzel feel to it. I tend to like that more than the full bread feel from New York. We didn't try other bagel spots but I don't feel like I would need to or want to. It was great. I'd come back

They also have indoor seating as well which is very convienent and ideal. These bagels themselves are typical of Montreal, a hint of sweet and a well wrapped spiced bagel. Combine these bagels with a Tre Selle cream cheese, which is not as dense or full of preservatives, and it's pure bliss for any bagel lover. I did find these bagels to be sturdier than the competition, the exterior chew definitely a little more of a workout for the jaw, but I'd still give St Viateur another retry the next time I visit Montreal.

The restaurant didn't provide a high chair for our baby, which was a bit disappointing. The service was good with our waitress checking with us to order and being prompt and attentive. Here is what we ordered: Grilled Cheese O+G (8/10) - the bread with the grilled cheese and caramelized onions were cooked well. The homemade ketchup had a sweet taste to it and was brought out a little colder than room temperature. I probably would have preferred the ketchup/tomato sauce to be a bit warmer. The Chicken Melt (8/10) - this sandwich was pretty big. It had grilled chicken in a creamy sauce, some Cole slaw (actually a lot of Cole slaw) and some dill pickles. The sandwich was a bit messy to eat and I think it had a little too much Cole slaw, but it was a good sandwich, nonetheless. Overall, I good experience with a few suggestions in my review that I think would have made it really great.

I did find both Five Guys and Brit & Chips (they are on opposite sides of the street) on McGill Avenue south of St Jacques. I had eaten at a Brit & Chips location before when they had a restaurant near Guy-Concordia metro (maybe about ~10 years ago) when I worked in a building which was close to the Green line so convenient to go there for lunch since it was less than 10 minutes away from my place of work at the time whereas for me to get to this location from where I worked would have taken about twice as long since it would have meant transferring from the green line to the orange line. On the day that I went to that location back then, I did remember that it wasn't that busy and I was the only customer. Unfortunately, that Brit & Chips restaurant did not survive. I did remember that the fish was very good so decided to go to this Brit & Chips since they had a lunch special. The staff were very friendly and greeted me in French and while I'm bilingual, I answered in English and the server replied to me in English. I was asked whether I was eating in or wanted something take out. I told the person that I was eating in and he told me that I could sit "anywhere" so I picked a seat in the back. I went to the washroom to wash my hands and then returned to my seat. I was asked whether I was ready to order and I mentioned that I was so the person motioned to the server and she asked me what I wanted. I asked her what I could get for their $19 lunch special and she told me that it was any of the 3 fish and chips dishes on the menu. I quickly looked at it and made my choice based on the server's recommendation (cod) and also decided to have a beer. The beer was brought immediately to my table and the food was put on my table a few minutes later (maybe 4 minutes later). The battered fish wasn't as good or prepared as well as I remember from the other location nor was it the best battered fish that I've had. The fries (chips) were good. The dipping sauce was also very good. What I didn't like about the way my battered fish was prepared was that when I cut into it, the hollow or "air pockets" of the fish/batter was dripping with oil. I know that the battered fish is deep fried so some oil is to be expected but I felt that it was "a lot" of oil that came out when I cut into my fish. The restaurant wasn't too busy at the time that I went (it wasn't empty nor was I the only customer there throughout my meal since as people left, others came in). I also didn't feel rushed. I showed up about 15 minutes before 2pm (their lunch special ends at 2pm... which I interpret to mean that the customer needs to enter and order before 2pm). In terms of whether I would return, I'm unsure since I'm rarely if ever at Square Victoria and for the orange line in downtown Montreal, I'm generally either at Place D'Armes or Bonaventure. If I exit Square Victoria metro, I would have no aversion to returning if I felt like fish & chips but would also just be as likely to try a different restaurant in the area. When downtown, I'm generally around the green line area. Yes, I know that in the underground city/tunnels you can get from McGill metro to Square Victoria metro without taking the metro but it is a very long walk indoors (from McGill metro station to Eaton Centre to the tunnel to Place Ville Maria to Central Station to the tunnel at Bonaventure station and a long walk indoors, one winds up in Square Victoria metro and exiting Square Victoria metro and going outside, walking a few blocks, less than 5 minutes or so away is Brit & Chips. Depending on the weather, if one didn't want to take the metro but was at McGill metro, it might be faster to just walk there directly above ground (outdoors) but then again with the traffic lights, it might not save that much time but would save a lot of walking (and perhaps going up a few flights of stairs since some escalators generally don't work). I would rate this place as 3.5 stars which I've rounded up to a 4 since I don't feel right lowering it to a 3.

Located right in the heart of Vieux Montréal, just a three-minute walk from our hotel, this spot has a cozy wine cellar vibe with dark interiors, comfortable chairs, and stone walls. We started with bone marrow, a first for both of us. My dining companion wasn't a fan, and I'm still processing--it was rich, greasy, and intensely flavorful. An experience, for sure. The complimentary hot bread was absolutely delicious, served with butter. We devoured it so fast our server brought us a second round, equally hot and fresh. Bless her. My lamb was divine--perfectly cooked and served with beautifully steamed and seasoned vegetables (cauliflower and zucchini) plus potatoes. My companion's salmon filet was equally impressive; she raved about it. We finished with dessert: I had the crème brûlée while my companion demolished the cheesecake. Light was quite beautiful building an ambiance of elegance. The staff were friendly and reservations online were quick and easy; yes they had our reservation and took us to our seat as soon as we arrived. The service was excellent, we did ask to change a dish after ordering and it never came, but I attribute that to a language barrier, me not knowing their language and them trying to be clear. We did order one dish that we've had before that was definitely not fresh, and I would still have given five stars when we sent it back but the chef argued that's how it should taste, through the waiter checking, and I felt that was worth loosing a star. The rest of the meal was Michelin star ready! Beautiful presentation, delicate flavors, and wonderful aromas. Their drinks were also unbelievable, including the mocktails which tend to fall short in most places, almost an after thought. Overall a great meal and experience, worth the price.
