The pictures will show many of the major errors. We had a bathroom renovation done by Mimmo and his crew in March of '23. Although tile choices etc were made by me there was never a discussion on a curbless shower install, no mention of it ever. The only drawings we received were of the cabinet design. However, a curbless shower was installed by Cantu in a second floor bathroom above our entry way. During install, even his tile guys were concerned about it but I was told it was too late to make changes and we would love it. From the minute the work was complete and the shower was in use, within seconds, the water not only accumulated in the shower due to lack of shower pitch, but it overflowed out of the shower and onto the main bathroom floor. This is a small single bathroom. Had the water remained on for the duration of a shower it would have run into the bedroom, carpeting and ultimately leak into the areas below. Mimmo returned twice and attempted to remove some floor pan tile and shave down the concrete to correct the pitch problem but also told me that this was to be expected and there was actually nothing wrong with it. And, I feel it's important to mention that the pitch issue cannot be blamed on his workers doing an incorrect install, as Mimmo was the only one "allowed"to pour and pitch the shower pan/floor. We were concerned and felt it was necessary to call in a different contractor for a second opinion. We were told that the pitch was not at plumbing standards (1/4 inch per linear foot) and, if it was not repaired, we would have long-time water issues due to the bathroom being located on the second floor above our main entry. Mimmo was highly offended by the fact that we had another contractor inspect his work and yelled at us on the phone. We requested a redo with a shower curb and he refused but said he would remove the tile and attempt to re slope the pan the shower. He said a curb could not be placed. Our trust was completely gone. We requested $5K refund, which was about 22% of what we had paid. This refund wouldn't even cover the price of the tile we would need to purchase for a new contractor but we felt it was just a good faith offer so we could all move on.Obviously that didn't happen. To our horror, here are the findings of the new contractor. From what we thought was only a pitch problem was a complete screw up. Yes, the shower pitch was off but also the huge glass doors were hung on plastic anchors into the drywall instead of into a stud (meaning at some point these huge glass doors could pull out of the wall and perhaps kill someone). The drain of the shower was incorrectly placed, the waterproofing was not installed correctly or adequately and, in addition, the tile was adhered directly to the waterproofing material. From a professional standpoint, there was shadowing on all the tile (meaning it wasn't placed smoothly in a professional manner), and the mudding on the walls was so excessive that there were huge curves on our originally straight walls. We hoped that would be it, but in addition, we found that two weight bearing studs had been cut through in order to place a niche! We had chosen a pre-made niche for install but Mimi's guys told me he never used them as they were too expensive. Instead he custom makes each one to save money. The cut out he made for the niche through two study was not supported, meaning after use and time it would have sunk, leaked and needed to be redone. In other words the entire shower install was done incorrectly from beginning to end. Waterproofing, pan pitch, glass door install, tile work, drain, and niche build out! If you decide to move forward with Cantu, know your bathroom may look pretty ...just hope and pray that you move out before the entire reno completely fails and you find out how the job was really done behind the walls!

They covered all of our floors leading up to the bathroom (remodel). The completed job matches our original plan. They were able to make adjustments when things were not going according to plan. They were able to obtain all the materials we picked out. Anytime we reached out to our Project Manager he was able to respond and give us information in a timely manner. Since we don't have a garage, they were able to provide us with a trailer which held all of our materials on site. Negatives: They gutted the bathroom as planned. When they laid the floor, they never covered it with paper so they continued to remodel the bathroom walking on the newly installed floor. Seems like not a big issue, but it's winter and they were dragging in dust, snow, ice and salt onto our new black floor. All of the debris was falling onto the new floor. Due to the fact that multiple people are working on multiple jobs, mistakes were made and workers had to come back out to fix errors made. Part of why we went with Detroit Build is because they had a design team. We were still required to go out and find the materials on our own. Our assumption was they would take care of this step. While our Project Manager did get back to us, we had to reach out weekly to get updates. At the end of the project the only cleaning that was done was construction cleanup. We were disappointed to find out that they did not have a cleaning company to take care of this job. It wasn't a clean and pristine feeling that you would expect with a remodel. We had to call and get a "deep clean" on our newly remodeled bathroom.

A slight miscommunication occurred likely in the quoting stage already, where I may not have picked up on a bidet seat being installed where I wasn't expecting that to happen. But that would also explain the higher re-quote that I approved, so there's that. We came to like it anyways and are happy with it. Kevin was a great Project Manager; whenever I saw something that needed improvement, Kevin took care of it. Their Showroom in Royal Oak to pick designs / tiles etc. is definitely a plus. The job was billed exactly as quoted; if there is something I would recommend doing would be a formal, final walk-through at the end of the project. There are a few very minor things I would have wanted to at least discuss or have some advice on. Overall I'd highly recommend Detroit Build and would work with them on a future job any time.

Martin made sure the style matched the other windows and got the job done well within budget. We were so happy with the work that we asked him to replace all the 12 windows throughout the rest of the house as well. We also got 2 bathrooms and one powder room remodeled and got the kitchen redesigned including new cabinets, flooring, backsplash, insert lights, under cabinet lights and pendant lights. The reason I recommend Martin is that he works with your budget and your design. Very transparent about pricing as well, for instance he has receipts for all raw materials so you can be assured of what's been used. The other big thing about Martin is his projects are turnkey, he addresses any associated issues that come up during the project (trust me, there is always something unplanned that comes up that needs fixing) and is very reasonable with pricing. E.g. when we did the flooring, we found the floor boards were squeaky and some needed replacement, he address all the issues promptly, fixed up the gradient - unlike some other big companies that don't do any extra work in spite of charging boat loads of money. He and his team are very trustworthy, cost-effective, punctual, efficient and they always clean up after work has been completed for the day.

They also install and clean carpeting as well as tile and grout. My job as Trustee for my parents affairs including my childhood house was a stressful challenge with many choices and difficult decisions since March 19, 2019. After the house was empty by the 4th of July I decided to remove all the carpeting and padding which was 34 years old (stuck at times) throughout the house in 4 rooms, closets too and a hallway. The final and 4th color of carpet was sky blue. So 4 different colors of plush since 1958 when the house was built. It took 3 days for the carpet and padding removal. A back breaking and messy job removing it all plus the tack boards and transporting to the backyard for disposal in rolled up pieces. Finally I had an idea and hopefully a profitable one to clean, sand and restore these hardwood floors throughout the house that still looked in their original and beautiful state plus a sure selling point and value to help sell the house in a modern way as well. I used Yelp for my research based on previous reviews and found 4 businesses which I called for pricing, and time availability for my project. Dominic Frabotta the owner called me back within an hour after I left a message with my request. He personally made a appointment within a few days based on our schedules to see, access and measure the whole house for my estimate. We talked budget since I needed to save money for painting and other repairs that would be used for an old house to prep for sale. He worked out a price which was wonderful compared to the 2 other companies I had already called. The 4th company called me back and was too busy till November. Dominic explained the project would take 4 days. He also informed me that there would be a set of 2 different crews with 2 employees since they all have a different talents and skills at their jobs. It was a noisy 1st day of preparation which entitled sanding and stripping the old stain or varnish off throughout the house plus closets and also included any nails or boards that needed to be checked or addressed. I was outside working in the garage on items to sell or donate since the machine a voltage unit? showed 241on the meter in the kitchen, so I was not allowed even in the basement to work due to noise. The guys wore masks, gloves and headphones for protection and company safety policy. The 2nd day and 3rd day would be the stain which employee Brandon & Steve helped me decide on to perfectly match the kitchen cupboards a walnut brown color. Even though the stain was a different color and a change from the original hardwood floor color, Dominic assured me to try a medium brown color to change the appearance of the walk in the door feeling and he was 100% correct. The final results and my photos attached before during and after sold the house ! The 3rd day would be the sealer or clear coat applied by Wiiliam which was a fantastic day to see my choice in stain color to match the kitchen cupboards. The final job was completed by William with measuring the wall areas throughout the house for the cutting and staining at the shop for the shoe moldings. He installed all of them in rooms with a nail gun in 1 hour. Dominic and his awesome crew of guys went out of their way to keep the dust level down using a high tech vacuum equipment and clean up afterwards at the end of a work day. Their communication with me on details or ideas working the 3 days, was very helpful and successful in their final work results. The total price I paid for my parents home was very reasonable and within my budget to accomplish a job well done. My parents house sold in 24 hours after it was listed for sale with my agent on the web plus with many photos including the old yet new hardwood floors. The new owner was so pleased and thrilled to know and see such a wonderful job on the old hardwood floors instead of using carpeting. When issues arose, they handled everything with the utmost professionalism. I'm ecstatic to see how they've transformed my home. I want to give them props for dealing with me. I definitely didn't make things easy for them. I have a knack for making things unnecessarily difficult, without meaning to. From sourcing my cabinets elsewhere, purchasing bargain materials that don't end up working, screwing with the electrical, and consistently misplacing items they need; I know I probably was a pain in the butt. My construction start date directly coincided with major surgery that complicated the process. They handled everything with grace and respect.
