What a lovely cafe! My husband and I came in first thing Saturday morning to grab breakfast and coffee while visiting Beacon. It's counter service and there was already a bit of a line when we arrived around 7:15am (why were so many people already up and about?! lol). We loved that they had a great variety of options, including many vegetarian options. I went with the egg & cheese sandwich and accidentally ordered it without the greens & sauce (whoops!). However, it was still delicious and satisfying. My husband got the avocado toast which was SUPER filling due to the hummus that was on it. He was only able to finish half of it. We also got a side order of fruit which, to my delight, was a bowl of berries! The fruit is seasonal so the combination might be different depending on what time of year you are visiting. Also, both of our coffees met our standards, which are a bit high these days. So kudos to them on that! The ambiance was absolutely incredible!!! Very well lit with a bright, welcoming atmosphere. Great spot for delicious eats and coffee! I visited on a weekend morning and the line was pretty long to place an order, but it moved quickly. There are also plenty of tables to sit at if you're dining in. I ordered the Forager Hash, which had a poached egg, asparagus, spinach, mushrooms, peppers, fingerling potatoes, and topprd with maple harissa and paprika aioli. I also got their pumpkin spice latte. My boyfriend got one of their specials, which was Shakshouka, a poached egg dish in a pepper sauce that was served with bread for dipping. We've tried K&C for their delicious gluten free baked goods and some drinks like their masala chai. This time, we really wanted to have the dining experience and not just get a quick bite or something to go. We came here on a super cold Sunday morning, so immediately we knew we were in the mood for something warm/cheesy. Immediately their lentil soup caught our eye paired with a delicious grilled cheese and the k+c avocado toast. We ordered great the only thing is I COMPLETELY forgot everything here is gluten free (even the bread, yes!). A place like this can be appreciated by everyone, whether you have certain dietary intolerances or you simply make certain dietary choices. Their baked goods are incredibly impressive and absolutely amazing. The fact that the full menu is GF and vegetarian absolutely blows my mind. That said, given that it was our actual first real dining experience, it would've been nice to have been asked or simply reminded (texture wise) about the bread. Other than that, everything was delicious! If you have a gluten intolerance/allergy/restriction/etc you will absolutely LOVE this place. If you don't have one, then just be mindful you might not necessarily need to order a bread based dish perhaps stick with anything else like the rice bowl or all the delicious things on their menu. YES get a baked good, you will love it. I do love that this is a place where you can casually hang out, do some work on your laptop, catchup with friends, etc. The only thing I will say on busier days it would be nice to not have customers sitting for long periods trying to do work/sit with the laptop since it's already hard enough getting seats inside (especially during the winter). My friend and I were strolling around Beacon after lunch when we decided that coffee would really hit the spot. Kitchen & Coffee stood out mainly because the name contained the word coffee - so off we went. So yes, it's not just coffee - walking in we were greeted by an ordering counter and in back of hit had an extensive food and beverage menu. The place is set up where you order at the counter and then get your food after taking a seat. We decided not to stay since we just wanted coffee and it was crowded hence no tables were immediately available. The space is kinda modern - very bright with mostly a white color scheme and some tables along the side and back of the dining room. The food menu contained mostly lunch options from what I saw, though there was also a selection of baked goods and some grab-and-go options as well. I just wanted coffee and decided to get a cappuccino. The beverage was good - nothing too remarkable just a solid capp. Service was great - it was crowded when we arrived but they did a good job controlling the crowds and making sure traffic flowed. An omnivore, a vegetarian, and a vegan walked into all-vegetarian Kitchen & Coffee. The omnivore ordered the Rice Bowl, which contains cow milk yogurt. The vegetarian ordered the Harvest Bowl, which is vegan, marked V on the indoor signboard, but not on the online menu. And the vegan ordered the Sweet Potato Burger, also marked V indoors, again omitted online. All three meals were colorful and made of wholesome and nourishing ingredients, except for the gluten-free burger bun. (Typical of GF breads, it was made of ultra-processed starches.) All three enjoyed their meals. That is how I began my review two years ago in 2023. That year was during K&C's relocation for two or three years to 382 Main St while its original building was being renovated and expanded. Last fall, it returned to its original site at 420 Main St. Good news and a gain for vegetarians. But sad news and a loss for vegans. The number of dishes that are vegan or can be veganized has markedly diminished. For instance, the Rice Bowl and the Harvest Bowl, my favorite, both have gone missing and were replaced with egg dishes. The menu generally has become very eggy. While cow milk yogurt or eggy mayo can be omitted from many dishes, unlike at most vegetarian restaurants that veganize their dishes for vegans, no substitute is offered, so vegans get less for their money. Worse, the option of plant-based milk for coffee comes at an exorbitant surcharge. Had K&C not previously been a haven for vegans I would have no cause to lament such loss. But there are downgrades in other ways. Portions now seem smaller and the so-called salads that accompany some dishes are solely lettuce with a dressing. The Green Goddess Salad that formerly comprised many mixed garden veggies now is just lettuce with dressing. I'd accept that in a steak house in January, not in a vegetarian eatery in August at the height of the salad veggies harvest season. A regrettable loss. Call it, Green GodLess Salad. Both the interior and the outdoor deck of the renovated building remain just as crowded and cramped as was the temporary location, thanks to all those malingerers at their laptops nursing a single cup of coffee. And K&C formerly featured its own parking lot, an asset for downtown Beacon, but no longer. Don't forget its namesake, Coffee. The caffeine addict among us formerly praised it. But she says the coffee, too, has lost quality. Disappointment all around. read more

5 Stars for a gluten free, vegetarian coffee shop, bakery, and cafe in downtown Beacon. My partner and I were in a nearby town and decided to make our way to Beacon for some natural wine and coworking. We found Kitchen & Coffee on Yelp and as we found street parking and walked up, we realizes the wine shop we had been looking to visit was right next door! Definitely be sure to stop by after your coffee for a bottle to take home. I ordered a decaf latte with oat milk (note the upcharge for non-dairy milk), a tempeh reuben sandwich, and the sweet potato burger. We got lucky and found a table for two, but note that they have larger tables for sharing work space as well as outdoor seating out back. The food was all absolutely delicious! I was especially fond of the bread on the reuben. With that being said, be sure to get a dessert pastry if you're very hungry because the portions are not very large (the sweet potato burger was surprisingly tiny, and the tempeh reuben was more bread than tempeh). Came here twice on my trip upstate to ring in the new year. LOVED the curry bowl (def glad I got the flatbread as well), and my friend had a harvest bowl that looked phenomenal. On the return trip I was excited to indulge in the tempeh Reuben, but it felt more like a grilled cheese with tempeh and a few slender pickle rounds. Despite a torrid love affair with Reubens when I was younger, I don't usually opt for this heavy of a sandwich anymore. But when I do...I want it SAUCEY, and definitely no skimping on the kraut! I was very pleased with Kitchen & Coffee. You could tell, that this eatery is very popular. They have front/rear outdoor seating, as well as plenty of indoor seating, and they were all occupied. Their menu is extensive, including sweets and VERY GOOD coffee. During this visit, I ordered the Cauliflower Bowl (organic brown rice, spiced cauliflower, dates, butter beans, pickled onion, carrot, garlic toum, black tahini, pepita dukkah, parsley, dill, mint, mixed greens, and citrus sumac vinaigrette). This bowl was one of the best I've ever had. All of those ingredients.....dancing together.... provided such a delightful meal. The citrus sumac vinaigrette hugged every item with such delight, that I should have ordered another bowl to-go! When we were sitting in the rear outdoor area, I noticed a smaller adjacent building called, Kitchen & Coffee Annex. I asked a staff member and they said, that they use that Annex to create their magical sweet items. Thanks to that Annex, I tried one of their magical creations......their Cherry/Almond Tart and it was just as good as the Cauliflower Bowl. I've died and gone to a sweet vegan heaven. This place is just the bees knees. Vegan, vegetarian and gluten free , serving up all kinds of food and sweet treats. My son, who is a burger loving kid, went crazy for this place. I got a jackfruit concoction that was superb, and a few cookies for the fam to share. We managed to come here twice on our very short trip to New York. It's not often that I find a coffee shop, bakery, and cafe rolled into one that's 100% gluten free. They're also 100% vegetarian and have a ton of vegan options. Their pastry display had me VERY excited... so many beautiful treats, what to choose? Whoopie pies, croissants, biscuits, cupcakes, cookies, bars, cheesecake, bundt cakes, this, that. Here's what we tried: apple gruyere biscuit, cheddar scallion corn muffin, raspberry bundt cake, almond granola bar, pecan pie bar, vegan pumpkin chocolate chip cheesecake, and a brown butter chocolate chip cookie. We also had lattes and iced lattes! All were absolutely delicious. Sadly I didn't try and of Kitchen & Coffee's savory menu. They have an assortment of toasts, sweet bowls, savory bowls, soups, salads, and plates. They also sell loaves of gluten free bread at great prices: Baguette for $7.00/loaf, Sourdough Boule for $12.50/loaf, Multigrain for $12.50/loaf Pullman Sandwich loaf for $8.00/half or $15/full loaf, Dinner Rolls for $1.75/per roll, Garlic Herb Buns for $2.00/per bun, Croutons for $6.50/1lb bag, and Bread Crumbs for $6.50/1lb bag! This past weekend a few friends and I got out of the City and ventured up to Beacon. Kitchen and Coffee was our first stop because we had heard amazing things about their gluten free pastries. I ordered the bundt cake with chocolate ganache (it was delicious and reminded me of a donut), and also got the soup of the day which was a broccoli and white bean soup and it was DELICIOUS!! To go with the soup I also got a house roll which made the soup even better. My friends enjoyed the rice krispie treat, and the tempeh ruben which were both incredible! The staff was very welcoming and helped me decide what to get, and the vibes inside felt welcoming and comforting. I appreciate how they have special seasonal drinks that also come in vegan versions! Really everyone can eat and drink here. The food is diverse and delicious. Again they have many vegan options of crowd favorites. This is a meatless restaurant just in case that wasn't obvious lol. The staff is very friendly and the desserts are decadent. The building isn't big but they do have outside seating as well. This is more of a fast casual restaurant so you order and pay then sit.
