The best restaurant of our 2 week trip to Western Europe. This was the best in Amsterdam so far as well. Wonderful presentations on the chef menu choices. All the portions were appropriate for the type of menu selection. Very happy that we let the chef decide what happens. Make a reservation if you can, especially during busy season. Absolutely outstanding food and kitchen service, however, front of house service was poor and a real disappointment. I had a dinner reservation for two on Christmas day, and we were the second group to be seated for the evening. The table that got seated before us ordered their drinks and then 5 minutes later ordered their food. We watched as more tables were seated and begin to fill up around us, and we had yet to be acknowledged by any servers. 10 minutes. 20 minutes. At 30 minutes we were finally able to flag someone down to ask for water. That water did not come. We had to flag another server down who got us water and then got the server assigned to our section to take the rest of our drink order and our food orders. The wait service was a real shame that put a damper on the whole experience. Once we got to order our food and the kitchen staff took over in bringing out the dishes and tracking the timing, it was a great experience. The food was 5-star quality with lovely attention to details, flavors, and appearance. Everything was cooked/prepped to perfect, and I still cannot get over their sea bream ceviche with cucumber ice cream as a starter. Unfortunately, the front of house service continued to disappoint after the meal. Once we had finished and the plates and drinks were all taken away, we waited another 10-15 minutes before flagging our server down to get the check. And yes, it took 10-15 minutes for them to bring us the check and then for them to return it with the card. Overall, I would love to go back for their food and kitchen staff, but there was definitely much missed and to be desired with the front of house staff. read more

We were walking around and desperately needed a place to sit and eat. We came to this place and the decor is amazing. Lots of paintings on the wall with ample seating inside and outside. I got the hamburger which really was cooked to perfection at medium. It didn't come with any sides. My son got the garden pasta which was not to his expectation. It definitely had its fair share of vegetables. While it wasn't what he was expecting, the flavor is not bad. My wife got the risotto which she thought was just ok. We also got an order of fries. Our waitress mixed up the order and they had to refire the pasta. While she owned up to the mistake, she definitely got above and beyond to apologize and offered us free desserts. She didn't have to but we appreciate her effort and sincerity. All in all, not bad food but I wouldn't give it a 4 stars. read more

Went here after getting a recommendation from Phillipine W. The interior is one of the classiest interiors I have experienced for a mid-week lunch. They even use flat screens to display nothing but portraits! The service was really quick and attentive, somewhat fitting an American restaurant, but I attribute that to the suspiciously little lunch crowd. The utensils were, again, classy. We had a salad and a panini, shared between us. The salad came with a side of freshly baked brown bread, while the panini was made up of really fresh ingredients. It was hard not to follow up the meal with a dessert, but self-control persisted. The food is very competitively priced, at least for lunch, and I have a feeling that I will have many more lunches in the future. In the evening, the place has really good potential for meeting up with friends over good quality drinks. read more

Wonderful location across from Rembrandtplein Started off with the langoustine appetizer. It's a bit small to share with more than two people, but lots of good flavor. Had the duck breast and pork belly both were very good but the pork belly was a bit better. The flavors of the pork and the scallops with the sauces were very well executed. read more

I stopped by here for lunch on a day trip to Amsterdam when I had a long layover. This restaurant is right on Rembrandt Square and looks out on the square with large windows. There is a row of tables inside that look out right on the square, and then a long couch with small tables perfect for solo diners or couples that also have a great view. This is a great spot for people watching. The food was excellent. I got the Carpaccio sandwich, which was a very healthy appearing but tasty open faced sandwich, with thin slices of rare roast beef, asiago cheese, arugula and pine nuts on bread that was spread with a pesto sauce. There's a full bar but I opted for a coffee, which was a small size, about four ounces, and was espresso-like in strength. Service was very fast and friendly, and English and was spoken. Bar food masked with the apparente of a restaurant, but it is still expensive bar food. Of course it is in Rembrand square, where there are only bars, so it gets its slide of tourists. The ambience is a big, very big room with a second floor within. All open. Big bar wall. Lot of tables. My burger was average. Service was sloppy and slow. Worse than average Amsterdam style even if the place for lunch was almost empty. Not sure if they are any good for drinks. Prices are definitely tourist trap area. read more

New Yorker here: This was the best meal I had in Amsterdam. Ingredients tasted super fresh, wines delicious, and service pretty good. Only downside was they made us pay to use the bathroom (WTF... I'm already paying a premium for the food) 2 friends got the tasting menu for 50 euros each. It came with 5 courses. Highlights were the lobster dish (forgot exactly what it was) and salmon. They were very happy with it and thought it was extremely good value. I got the cod main dish and thought it was probably the best fish dish I've ever ordered. Flavor spot on but unfortunately it was almost a month ago so I forgot exactly what was in the dish. My friend got the salmon and was very pleased as well. Their BREAD tray/basket was so good we got 3 to share.. The bread was good but to be honest, we only ate the bread for the roasted tomato spread that came with it. Great ambiance for a date or girls night out. The night we went, there was live jazz and she was GOOD. There was also a birthday party at the bar. Super trendy. We went here for a drink before heading home for the evening. As soon as we were seated and server came over to check on us (we sat outside). Surprisingly it wasn't very full outside, so we had very attentive service. The drinks are pricey, but you are sitting on Rembrantplein, so what else would you expect? I love Rembrantplein. Love it. I don't know why. Maybe the people watching? The ease of public transportation? The musicians that sometimes are around playing? Either way, it's a great place to sit and have a drink, or dinner. As I said, we had a drink each and order the bread with aioli and hummus. It was a nice mix of bread and both "dips" were quite tasty. This place turned out to be a night saver plus something which you will always remember. So we were roaming around Amsterdam and had a flight next morning so decided to spend the night on the streets. Knowing Amsterdam we knew it won't be tough at all, so we roamed for hours enjoying ourselves .. finally around 1:30 I was too tired to walk and needed to sit somewhere for a drink or two. This place surprisingly had an awesome ambience , was not that crowded may be cause people had started to wrap up. We sat here till 2:30 , enjoyed some good music. Had drinks, tea , desert. We were here on company dinner so the menu was already fixed for us with duck as main course, but since I don't eat poultry, they gladly change it to salmon without problem. Our menu starter was the carpaccio with pine nuts and it was very delicious. The salmon main course was also perfectly prepared. Some of my other colleagues complained that their duck weren't done properly. The dessert was dame blanche, typical Dutch dessert with vanilla ice cream and chocolate sauce and that was the best chocolaty dessert I have ever had. Service was prompt, friendly and with a smile. The only minor problem was that it took some time between the meal but that was probably arranged beforehand to give out breathing room for the tummy. All in all, I have no complaints. It felt like half of the population of The Netherlands was trying to crowd into Rembrandt Square, yet the restaurant was more than half empty and we had no trouble getting a reservation for a party of seven. What's wrong with this picture? The service was, to be kind, inattentive. Perhaps they were looking to make the restaurant look more appealing by having the patrons sit around while they await the appearance of the waitstaff? The presentation of the meal was beautiful, artistic. This is the place to go if you want to impress your friends on Facebook with the beautiful plate (eventually) placed before you. We've decided to spent Christmas evening in the wonderful place. All dishes from X-mass menu were delicious, especially skrei and scallops. It is not loud here, so you enjoy chatting with your friends. Service is excellent here, so I would strongly recommend visiting this place. Enjoy! read more

Horrible choice! - I would give you 0 stars if I could. I picked this place for my 40th birthday, which was on 12/21. We walked in and were seated by the door (on a cold day). Which I didn't complain about because we had walked in without a reservation. None the less, I didn't expect to be treated like we were or I would have taken my money and birthday elsewhere! We were seated by the host next to a large table of about 10-15 people. The waitress of that table passed by our table several times without so much as a single greeting or acknowledgment. After 15 minutes I asked the host who our waitress was. She pointed to the same girl that just ignored us. We has to ask for menus, water, bread (several times). At one point after our first round of drinks, my husband had to go to the bar to order them! Our meals came and she never asked how the food was, if we wanted more drinks, if we wanted dessert..etc. She was the absolute worst waitress I've ever had! I finally decided that I wouldn't give them one more dime and asked for the check without ordering dessert or more drinks (which we wanted to). When she brought the check back, I asked her if she was supposed to be our waitress which she replied "Yes" with a SMILE. I almost burst out laughing. I told her that she was the worse waitress that I ever had and that her service was awful. I've never had such a bad experience. It was definitely a damper on such a special occasion.
