I find that the air can be dry in hotel rooms, but I didn't experience any issues. The lobby has a lot of seating. The on-site restaurant had good food and great service. The staff was VERY patient with my big and loud family, which I also appreciate. The property isn't too far from shopping and restaurants. Though it was summer so the weather was nice. I can't imagine walking in the middle of winter, though I guess walking would be safer than driving for me since I'm not used to driving in the snow. The nearest grocery store is like a 5-min walk so it is doable. I recommend this Marriott property if you need a place to stay in Waterloo since it's close to restaurants, shopping, and the university.

The free WiFi is very good or you have the option to upgrade if you're doing something that requires a lot of refreshes. We had no problem watching Netflix and doing work without the upgrade. Parking costs additional - $12 per night at time of review. There is a small garage and lot adjacent and a large parking area beneath the hotel. There are electric charging spaces available also. Facilities include an on-site restaurant serving breakfast and dinner. There's also an indoor pool, sauna and gym. Everything is clean and modern and the central location can't be beat - highly recommend.

This time, after 2 years of covid coming back, figured I'd get a cute little Airbnb close to my family's house. Close it was and disaster it was! They came in 7-8 times to the unit in 12-14 hours of me being there. Unannounced, unauthorized! It was that crazy. Long story short, Airbnb got me out ( luckily after 4 -9 calls/ emails) and put me here. Not much was available. And I appreciate this so much more! Walking in here albeit it was late/ after a stressful day, this was such a haven. The front doors don't slide open at night due to homeless, they have to buzz you in! That threw me off a little like ok where am I!?! But I guess most cities/ downtown's having this problem right now. They have stuff shortage like everywhere else, so check in was just check in. You can get their luggage carts yourself, load and or park and load. The receptionist ( Meagan I believe) was super nice to let me park out to load/ check in first. Then go park underground. So much better that way. The room was super spacious. Kitchenette was super clean, bathroom was nice. Even the kind bed was comfy. Could look a little more better if they tuck in/ do a better bed prep. But! It was a ok without it :) They had breakfast every morning ( or my room came with it). I didn't make it most days (4 days) only because I don't eat breakfast. But I made it in for coffee which was available all day. Even decaf! They also had a happy hour thing/ Thursday 4-6:30 I believe. Some cheeses, drinks etc even some tacos. I went for juice and coffee. Still great. Overall , it was very empty during my stay. The gym was small but clean. The Hammer! Downtown Hammer/ Hamilton is busy/ but empty. It's a nice change. But perfect escape from my nightmare Airbnb! I don't know If I would like this place as much if book and check in here without Airbnb disaster. But I definitely appreciated my stay here! Only if they weren't so expensive though. I had to take a couple of work meetings, and found the internet to be a little slow/choppy. But other than that it was a comfortable stay. The Starbucks in the lobby was helpful, and the location is super walkable, right in the heart of downtown Hamilton. The complimentary water bottles were super useful and a nice touch. They had a nice terrace and held a low-key viewing event for the eclipse. All-in-all we had the perfect little weekend getaway thanks to the Sheraton!

Every half hour - great. But give guests a time to be there and stick to it. I paid more than double the hotels Nextdoor to stay at this Marriott even though I have top tier status at two hotel chains on the same street. I was hoping the shuttle would be a perk and perhaps they would offer guests staying under the festival block something that related to the festival (a welcome gift, a sticker... ANYTHING). Upon entrance, we were greeted warmly by the staff and the entrance lobby look quite new. They told me the hotel was previously converted from a Holiday Inn. I love that there is a mini fridge inside to hold our fresh strawberries from our Farmers market haul. The best part is the location it's next to a Playhouse, an outlet, and St Jacobs market, and short drive to the University campus, Waterloo Park and golf course if you're intending to visit there.

There was a 24-hour on-site convenience store, along with an indoor pool, 24-hour fitness center and complimentary WIFI. I was going to have a bath ... until I found an empty shampoo bottle and short black hairs that didn't belong to me in the tub. Ewwwww! I also noticed a couple big smudges on mirror above the sink. There were about ten squares left on the toilet paper roll, which I found strange ... good thing there was an extra roll left. It made me wonder whether the bathroom was cleaned at all. Though there is a small shopping plaza next door (with about a quarter of the store fronts available for rent), there isn't much around ... you have to drive to get to restaurants, shopping, etc. I did go to the pub (other than Tim Hortons, it's the only restaurant around) in the shopping plaza for supper last night but it wasn't very good.

I arrived around 2:30 in the afternoon and they said my room wasn't ready yet and to try back at 3 PM. No worries. I was able to hang out for a few minutes waiting and went back and my room was ready. I was able to bring up my things and get settled. The 3rd floor of the wing is under renovations but that never was an issue. I went to go turn on the TV and the remote didn't work. Not a huge deal since I wouldn't be in the room long but I mentioned it to the front desk and they said they would find a replacement but it didn't happen until the next day when we found a maintenance worker. Which is fine because the channels weren't working at all on the tv the next morning anyways. The breakfast was better in the past. They replaced all the real plates with paper and the silverware is all plastic now. They even downsized the offerings for food and it's still a good breakfast but it the very basics. Overall, this is an okay experience. It is in a good location that is easy to navigate to but the amenities seem to be dwindling here. Next year when I come up to Brantford, I'll definitely debate staying here or somewhere else.

We learned that our fireplace was not functional when we tried to turn it on, and Joanne Brooks, General Manager must be fully aware by now that the rooms in the East wing have non‑functioning fireplaces and the rooms are in poor, worn, dirty condition. The fireplaces continue to be listed as an amenity on their website in the East wing, which is misleading to customers and was not indicated at time of booking which is what was claimed we were told at reception. We doubt this is the first complaint, and it appears the fireplace photo for these rooms are actually from the Gretzky wing. We were provided an adjusted the rate and bonus points for the non‑functioning fireplace. Besides the one on the door, we did not see one NO SMOKING sign in the room next to the detectors as is the norm in other hotels in Canada. This would contribute to the evidence of smoking of cigarettes and marijuana observed from the hallways at various times of day. There are only heat detectors wired to the alarm system. The battery operated smoke/CO detectors can easily be pulled from the wall allowing smoking to go undetected. This is a loophole in Ontario law according to the Brantford Fire Department. We have stayed in the past at the other three major chains in Brantford, and all of these hotels are much newer and cleaner. We have never complained about these hotels as their standards appear higher despite being a budget offering. I can say at least the bathroom is clean though the door makes it hard to get in and out of the room. The pool area had a Grade B rating for the spa earlier that week when inspected by the Grand Erie health department. Everyone raves about the Gretzky wing, and there is no way we would ever stay in the East wing again unless it is fully renovated.

This was, by far, the worst hotel experience I've ever had…read more During my stay, when sitting in my room, I detected a rotten sulfur-like stench. I was concerned what it could be, so I informed the front desk. I started feeling light-headed as a result, so I sat down in the lobby. Almost half an hour after reporting this, I tried going back up again. However, as soon as the elevator door opened, I was immediately struck by an incredibly strong smell, and it was impossible to breathe. I went back down and told the front desk again, but they hadn't looked into it. I was unable to stay in my room this whole time. I warned them about the urgency several times (it could have been a gas leak, and it was causing me to feel lightheaded being up there even briefly, so it seemed dangerous), but they remained unconcerned. My partner came to pick me up, and she confirmed that the smell was unbearable and that something was wrong. I left the property immediately in fear, and remained lightheaded for several hours afterwards. The experience doesn't end there. We raised this concern with the general manager of the hotel. He apologized for the incident, but said it wasn't their fault. Maybe the original issue wasn't the hotel's fault, but their negligence in handling the issue certainly was, leaving me in the lobby with no idea what was going on for over half an hour. He offered some reward points as compensation, but it was an unreasonably low amount, given the severity of the experience. We requested more points, and he promised he would get back to us after the weekend. He did *not* get back to us after the weekend. In fact, we called and sent a few emails after then, and he ghosted us for almost a month. As a result, we contacted Marriott group again, and he finally got back to us. However, he simply said the situation had already been resolved (despite his promise of getting back to us). He was ignoring us since he claimed he had "more pressing matters" to deal with. Finally, he wished us a good weekend and rudely hung up on us. To pre-empt some comments. First, we said that we would post our complaints publicly. He said that he would instruct his social media team to say we were being "unfriendly." Obviously, we would disagree. But this is our word against his, and there's really no way for you (the reader) to know who's in the right. Nonetheless, it seems unprofessional to threaten this to a guest. Secondly, a reader may wonder if we had already gotten enough points, and were just getting greedy. Again, I don't think so. But even putting these two matters (which may be subjective) aside, I think that either of the following two points are completely unacceptable for any organization in the hospitality industry: a) To ignore a guest's urgent concerns during their stay, when they have come to you many times, and are sitting there in the lobby waiting for a response, b) To promise to get back to an unsatisfied guest, subsequently not do so, and then ignore their messages for the following month. Would strongly recommend against staying at this property.
