We were warned repeatedly: "A kitchen remodel will be a nightmare--don't live there while it's happening!" That, along with a few other cautions, set our expectations before starting our project with Kitchen & Baths Unlimited. For my wife and me, however, the experience turned out very differently. We cannot say enough great things about Nancy (design), Owen (project management) and the entire team that meticulously executed the remodel. While I work from home and my wife commutes downtown, we decided to move forward with gutting and remodeling the vintage kitchen in our 100-year-old farmhouse in Evanston--and we couldn't be more pleased with the outcome. Yes, the demolition phase was a bit loud, as expected. But after that, the usual construction noise--hammering and drilling--was manageable. The team did an excellent job minimizing disruption: adjacent rooms were carefully sealed to contain dust, wood floors were protected with panels, and window treatments were wrapped in plastic. Design selections were also made easy thanks to Nancy, who guided us through choosing colors, cabinets, and countertops that matched our vision. The result is a beautiful transformation from a neglected, dingy farmhouse kitchen into a bright, modern farmhouse space. The Italian tile backsplash complements the quartz countertops with subtle veining. The lower cabinets are a soft gray, while the upper cabinets are white, creating a clean and balanced look. We also upgraded our appliances and fixtures, including LED ceiling lights, a Bosch microwave drawer, a professional KitchenAid range with a matching hood featuring an infrared sensor, and a modern stainless-steel farmhouse sink with a gentle bow. Despite an initial delay with the permit office due to a previously applied for permit that KBU helped us manage, the project stayed on schedule. We made a few minor upgrades along the way, but thanks to Owen and Nancy's guidance, we remained on time and within our overall budget. The KBU crew was professional, punctual, and highly skilled. Communication was seamless--especially since I was working from home--which helped address questions quickly and keep the project moving efficiently. In the end, we passed all inspections and received written approval from the village within a day. For us, this remodel was a great success. fabulous kitchen remodel in Logan square neighborhood of Chicago. having done a few kitchen remodels before (north shore and colorado), I felt some trepidation approaching this project in our new home in Logan square. luckily, I found KBU! I worked with Julie (designer), her team led by Jesus, and of course, owner Owen. Julie came up with ideas I hadn't even thought of and was able to convert an old, smaller space, into something that felt luxurious. Jesus and his team were super hard workers, pleasant to deal with, trustworthy, and highly efficient and knowledgeable. Everything was overseen frequently by Owen. We just finished a complete remodel with KBU--kitchen and three baths. We started with Kelly, and she was outstanding. Ownership changed, and we were concerned that the new owners would not deliver the same kind of product as previous owners. Not a worry. The new owners have the same dedication to the client and are also a pleasure to work with. We love the finished product and we are very happy with owner, Owen and crew leader, Rade. We had a budget for this very large project, and they helped us stay within that amount. We never felt that we had to skimp on choices to stay in budget. One of the best things about Owen is he responds immediately. No matter what day or time we'd text, email or call, Owen responded within the hour and often faster. And his response was always positive and supportive. Any issues or problems? He took care of them without any hesitation. He wanted us to be satisfied and happy with the results. And we are. One of the other tradespeople broke an item and is replacing it, but it won't arrive for several months after our remodel is complete. No problem, Owen will have Rade install that item for us when it arrives. To us, that says a lot about Owen and his business philosophy. We consider ourselves so fortunate to have Rade and Jesus as our crew. Rade does things the right way. He never skimped or took shortcuts. Even if it was more difficult or took more time, Rade did it the right way. Rade also wanted us to be happy with the results. He is thorough, professional, skilled and experienced. Many times there were choices and decisions, and we were not sure which to do. We had so much confidence in Rade's experience and skill that we deferred to his suggestions. We were never disappointed. Remodeling can be a stressful mess, but the people at KBU make it as stress free as possible. They are a pleasure to work with and to know. read more

Juli from Kitchens and Baths unlimited did a huge project on our house. She carefully considered our budget and helped us design a beautiful space. We converted a laundry room into a mudroom and then converted our oversized bedroom into a laundry room and walk in closet. She also redesigned our master bathroom. Juli ended up being partnered with their builder PJ for our project. Juli and PJ were in constant contact with us about design decisions and questions about our preference with the construction. PJ is incredibly knowledgeable and thoughtful in the design of the space as well as placement of things like switches and electrical. PJ understood our preferences often times without needing to ask our opinions (although he still did). PJ frequently did things to improve the space that we had not even thought of. At the beginning, of our project Juli was consistently asking us for our design opinions (colors, finishes, etc.). Juli has such a good eye for design that we ended up just picking her prefered design every time. It got to the point where she started to ask us our opinions and we just gave her full freedom to use the design that she thought was best. Juli also visited the job daily and when she noticed something that needed upgrading or should be improved she brought it to our attention. The renovation of our primary bath was completed last month, and we couldn't be more pleased. Kelly's initial design work and suggestions throughout the process were excellent. As general contractor, she communicated clearly and promptly. Everyone involved in this who worked with her--plumber, electrician, carpenter, tilers, painters--were very professional, unobtrusive, and helpful when consulted. I have just completed remodeling two bathrooms with Kitchen and Baths Unlimited! Both bathrooms are amazing and magazine ready! I am so excited about my new bathrooms. I'll start out by complimenting Ron. He is very knowledgeable on remodeling. He offered many ideas to us on our complete top-to-bottom kitchen redo; many of which we implemented in our design. Rob responded to most of our many texts/calls immediately. I hate waiting for days to get a callback and usually can't remember by then why I originally called. He has the traits I look for when hiring an employee. K&BU did a complete demo on our kitchen and built the cabinet replacements. K&BU has a wide variety of countertops to choose from; including quartz, granite and marble. These materials came in many styles, colors and various grades of quality. The same goes for cabinet choices. So many styles and colors it makes one's head spin. They runs a very efficient office. The staff is knowledgeable and quick to respond to emails/calls. Once K&BU completed the finish work the kitchen looked just as we had hoped, beautiful & more functional than the dinosaur that WAS our kitchen. read more

We highly recommend Kitchen & Baths Unlimited. K&B remodeled our kitchen and 2 bathrooms. Kelly Thayer is excellent with design ideas, but she is flexible and will take and run with your ideas or will blend hers and yours to meet your needs. For our master bathroom, she designed the shower section lower than the bathroom floor so there is no lip. Fully ADA compliant. Wheel chair accessible. Don't need that yet, but maybe in the future. When we found out our new frig would require 3 inches of space on the left side by a wall for the door to open fully, she suggested adding more space and putting a pantry cabinet there set back enough so it would not interfere with the frig door. But K&B may not be the least expensive company you will find. Kelly and K&B stand behind their prices and fix mistakes at no extra cost. And K&B will make changes you request beyond the contract at reasonable prices. read more

Kelly and her whole team were absolutely amazing to work with. From the design phase all the way through construction, everything was perfect. They were super helpful to my wife and I who don't usually have the best design knowledge. They found creative ways to work with existing features of our bathroom that we wanted to keep while incorporating many new elements. The workers were so helpful and absolute professionals. They did a great job of isolating the space to minimize construction dust and left our house in pristine cleanliness everyday. They were especially respectful of our family requests and needs during Covid-19. We are super happy with quality of all the materials uses, especially the craftsmanship of the cabinets. The amount of storage we now have is so great. We could not be happier with the final results and our only regret is we didn't do the project sooner. From the beginning of my experience with Kelly Thayer and Ron Nanberg I had complete, professional guidance and follow through on how to plan, design, and install not only a beautiful but also a highly functional kitchen and bathroom. Kelly is a delight to work with! She carefully listened to my needs, asked me thoughtful questions, and helped me to select cabinets that would work in my home. She created numerous designs to make the most of my limited space and offered alternate ideas when I was not completely on-board with a plan. The timeline that she presented to me was on-target -- in fact, the actual project was completed ahead of schedule! Kelly arranged to have my old cabinets picked up by Habitat for Humanity and she carefully allocated the right amount of time for each of her workers to be on-site to complete their tasks. She helped me select the right granite, fixtures and appliances to make my kitchen and bathroom "picture perfect." Before signing the contract with Kitchen and Bath unlimited I researched and interviewed a number of kitchen companies and I did not find anyone who was as professional and customer service oriented as Kelly and Ron. They were responsive to my needs, they were proactive in giving me contacts for floor refinishing and painting, and they were on-site regularly to make sure that the work was being done to my satisfaction and to their high standards. I contacted Ron out of desperation. I purchased a house last spring and now noticed a problem with the installation of my kitchen cabinets. (Ron did not install them.) The cabinets are over 8 years old!! Ron was helpful, directed me to the manufacturer, ( who now is out of business) and then offered to take a look and try to find a remedy.
